5 Touch ID and home button, the home buttonless designs w/ face id are horrible, i opened a friends phone using a photo of them, (it was a iPhone XR btw) and the design just looks like a run of the mill android with a notch on it.
How can a flat photo trick a 3D IR scanner?

Your concern with OLED makes sense. The rest of what you said is just opinion. (...though the notch isn't my favorite either).

So the iPhone SE 4 will have 2 rear cameras, not one like iPhone XR.

Nice.

So, to stick out, the SE will have The Notch, whereas all other iPhones will have moved to the Dynamic Island by then. So that means the Dynamic Island was a hit.

But I fear to think what an SE 4 would cost. Double the price of the old SE's?
I think it would only have one camera lens. Price will probably be $549-$599.

I was really hoping mini could live on in a SE.

I still wonder if the mini should have been a pro phone.

This is all going to depend on Apple's Home Grown Modem, and pricing it correctly. If it's in the middle on power consumption the type of buyer won't care about what band 5G it can use. If it's not ready for prime time then problems.

I understand the desire for the Mini, however, I know several people that would sell their current SE in a minute for a 6.2 display SE regardless of its components.

OLEDS are pretty much a standard pn smartphones these days, and a 2024 SE with an LCD would be ridiculous.

I’m another person wishing Apple would use the Mini as the next SE, but with the caveat of Touch ID in the power button. None of that is probable though. Instead Apple will probably take away the two remaining small-ish phones and the only Touch ID phone, and add yet another giant phone with Face ID to their lineup because six is not enough (14PM, 14Pro, 14, 14Plus, 13, 12). So the entire lineup will be nothing more than 6 or 7 giant phones with Face ID. And I’ll have zero interest in that lineup.

The real question is whether a new SE driven by the latest or close enough state of the art chip and more than good enough lenses will finally support night mode for the camera in 2024.

Although it's true that the overall market prefers bigger phones, I remain unconvinced that there isn't enough demand as subsegment to dedicate to offering a small phone. The problem is in the past Apple really split the segment too much, between the iphone mini 12, the 13 mini, the SE 2020, and SE 2022, there's always been at least two phones for that sub-segment. Make one small phone. What I suspect this could be is the SE+ and Apple will begin alternating every two years between a new SE (small phone) and new SE (large phone).

iPhone SE should be for grandmas and grandpas and those who can't or don't want to keep up with the new changes but modern speed/specs. In other words, keep the home button/TouchID.

iPhone SE mini, iPhone SE, iPhone SE Plus.

Apple gets to recycle their design to keep costs low and the rumors of them making/designing modems in-house adds to this cost driven lineup. Tim's comments about getting your mom a new iPhone to use iMessage would actually be applicable. Boomers still make up a great deal of buying power and are brand loyal but don't want to keep learning different ways to use their phone: make boring modern for them (and others who don't like change)

I really really really hope this isn't true and that they go LCD. They are aware that flicker sensitivite people have major issues with their OLED phones and if they go all OLED they cut off those of us who can't use OLED. It's sad for a company that take pride in their accessibility.
Well, or Apple could you know step in the 2020 year already and implement DC (flicker less) OLED dimming, which many Android phones already do...

Talk about premium brand.

Unlikely for Apple to make the entry level product to look like their two tier up more expensive models. Also, OLED at that price point? This is not Android, Apple have strict margin requirements.

Using the XR shell makes more sense. Single camera, LCD, perfect to differentiate the entry level model with the rest of the lineup.

Why? The mini failed. It’s funny how people here on MacRumors and other Internet places clamor over the iPhone mini and yet literally nobody bought them. Apple listened to the demands of this small percentage of users and brought out an undersized and still powerful phone and all everyone did was cry about it and find every reason to bash it and encourage prospective buyers to steer clear. They made two generations even though the numbers showed it was to Apple’s detriment.

The market has shown time and time again that most people want bigger phones.

The mini failed because of the name and price. The iPhone SE 2 sold over 21 million units, more than the iPhone 12 in one year.

It makes me wonder why would people buy the iPhone 15 over this rumoured SE4.

(I'm assuming that we'll see a March/April 2024 launch for the SE4)

The 15 will have:
  • A new design of course
  • incremental better processor (the A14 mostly likely) and better cameras.
  • Dynamic island
  • Crash detection
  • Satellite SOS
I mean these are nice to haves but I'd bet that they're not worth another $200 / $250/ $300 to get the regular 15.

Perhaps the battery life is going be very good? 🤷‍♂️

I suspect that we'll see the SE4, to keep the costs down:
  • Keep the chassis design of the 14
  • A13 processor and front and back camera from the 13
  • And minus crash detection & satellite SOS from the 14,
But again, I'd be wondering what the regular 15 will have over the SE to justify the cost of it, as if I'm right, the SE4 still sounds a very good 'regular' iPhone.

The current SE3 already runs the A15 chip.

Well I guess that means there might be a phone worth buying on the market that isn't a turd and doesn't cost a kidney. I only have one left as it is after the last few gougings.

I was hoping they would base the SE 4 on the iPhone 13 mini. I know the mini was not a huge seller, but there are people (most of my family) that prefer a smaller phone.
they should upgrade Mini every 2 years, with new low end processor, LED display, sell it for cheap.
