The prison mentality. “Everyone is ****ing me in the ass, so I guess that’s the way this is going to go from now on.”So what. You need differentiation between the tiers of phones. You pay extra for heated seats to be activated in a car even though in many cases the circuitry is already there.
The last time I plugged my phone into my computer with a cable was to Jailbreak it I think.
Anything other than exactly this would be so Apple though.Thats good but terrible at the same time...
They should support the fastest speeds on the Pro's, but allow at least basic USB 3.0 speeds on the standard models.
Yes but don’t forget that it’s android. No android phone is worth more than 299 pounds! (Or 354 US dollars)In the Uk the Pixel 6a is £299 and comes with USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1
Just think about that for a minute.
Apple are turning into something very ugly.
How is it in any way a "middle finger to the EU"? Like you say thunderbolt 3 can have a USB-C connector and has USB 3.1 compatibility. So in the end it's stil 100% compliant with what the EU demands of Apple.Apple should flick a massive middle finger to the EU and make the port Thunderbolt 3. The EU said that the port has to use a USB-C connection. They did not say what kind of port it has to be. Yes Apple, hold up your middle finger and give it to the EU. Make the product better for all of us in the process.
I do find it odd that Apple never used USB 3.0 speeds via Lightning, which is what they did with the original 12.9" iPad Pros. But the iPhones only used a 2.0 version.I’d bet the non-pros get usb 3 w’out thunderbolt and the pros get thunderbolt/usb4 personally, I doubt it’ll be thunderbolt across the line, I do hope they dont decide to be exceptionally petty and stick the non pros with usb 2.0, that would be absurd
Absolutely right. The prison mentality. “Everyone is ****ing me in the ass, so I guess that’s the way this is going to go from now on.”
It would be so petty from Apple if they limit the USB-C to 2.0 speeds.
Although it’s very unlikely. Definitely will have Thunderbolt 3 and Pros will have Thunderbolt 4/ USB4 like Macs and iPad Pro
I can't think of any other device that uses USB-C at USB 2 speeds but Apple may land yet another courageous first.
Now this makes engineering sense. I hadn't thought about the limitation of the USB controller on the A16. Apple probably designed it to only handle 2.0 speeds, so if the non-Pro iPhone 15's get the A16, then it's unlikely it'll support faster than 2.0 speeds. The issue is that the current A-series SoCs do not support Thunderbolt or high-speed USB-C data.
The iPad Pro can support Thunderbolt and USB4 because it has an M1 SoC, which has the necessary hardware. But other iPads using A-series chips are limited to USB 2.0 speeds, even though they have USB-C ports.
Presumably, the iPhone 15 Pro will get a new chip (A17 ?) that has new I/O capabilities to support the USB-C port. But the standard iPhone 15 will be using something the same or similar to this years A16 Bionic, which simply doesn't support anything beyond USB 2.0 speeds.
It’s very common in low end Android phonesIf this is what Apple is doing it's pretty lame. I can't think of any other device that uses USB-C at USB 2 speeds but Apple may land yet another courageous first.
Only works if you are prepared to use Android and be associated with google. In the Uk the Pixel 6a is £299 and comes with USB Type-C 3.1 Gen 1
Just think about that for a minute.

So competition forces them to gimp their own product?Remember when competition landscape was completely different back then?
