Tim Cook not understand that how the first generation of iPhone X can already be notchless with pop-up camera?

i have a hard time believing that they would make a change such as this, on some models. just doesn't sound right.

Apple isn't new to upselling so it'll only be available on the costlier iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max models.

I don’t think it really matters what the cut out is. People will notice it for 30 seconds, and then move on with their lives.
Same if they remove it, people will open the phone, think it’s cool for 30 seconds and then completely forget it ever existed
Only those that want a week-long battery life on a single charge will notice and complain about it constantly...

How about something more innovative like in-screen sensors and camera to completely eliminate notch and pin hole? Apple must not have enough money for R&D.
Did you even read the article? Half of these comments seem like they only read the headline. They likely wouldn’t do away with Face ID, it’s too secure. If anything, my guess is they found out a way to get it under the screen (with the main camera poking through for best clarity)

The amount of times I see mi7chy having an anti Apple reply and then I7guy with a pro Apple reply on the same page is getting to me , maybe one of you can change their name to i5 ? its sad that I can actually identify a poster in this forum , and also know what will be the context of the respond...... damn pandemic.

No, ...I don't believe it.
I would bet big that Kuo has this one completely wrong.
I'm guessing they will probably keep Face ID + Touch ID for the Pro models, leaving the regular ones only with Touch ID.

That makes no sense, they can’t fit Face ID and the selfie cam in one hole punch
Again, glad to know that you work for Apple, so you know exactly what their capabilities are.
Again, if anyone would read the actual article, there is absolutely *nothing* about removing Face ID.
It’s not going anywhere. It’s one of their flag ship security features, they’re not going to remove it. If they can make it smaller, then they will make it smaller. If they can’t, then they won’t.

i think the whole-punch approach has some limitations over the notch though, no?

You get mask friendly Touch ID with hole punch plus you can authenticate without looking at it like when driving so that's an advantage. How do you figure it has limitation?

Can any of you people read? There is absolutely nothing saying that they’re removing face ID on any of the models.
NOTHING!!!
They have talked about making the notch smaller, they have talked about turning it into a hole punch. What they haven’t talked about is removing a feature.

For the millionth time, if this rumor is true, this will have no effect on The functionality of face ID.

I predicted Apple would kill off 3D Touch before it happened. Face ID/notch because we'll be wearing mask into 2022 if not longer and Touch Bar are next.

I gave my wife a 12 for Valentines day and every time I try to use that phone I notice the notch and absolutely hate it. It is one thing that keeps me on my 8+.
If the 2022 models have a punchout I will buy. Now I know I will keep the 8 for 18 months more.

Get rid of Face ID since it's useless anyway since we'll be wearing masks into 2022 or maybe longer if COVID-19 continues to mutate.
Guess it depends how much you're wearing a mask and/or if you have an apple watch.
I don't wear a mask that much and I have an apple watch..No worries.
Keep the face id, works fine.

i'm gonna get flak for saying this but, i don't mind the notch, actually if you think of it from a glass half full perspective, the end of the screen is where the notch begin, the two top notch of screen real estate is just there for the battery and lte indicator.
