I get you’re probably trolling, but it is worth mentioning that nowadays the Front camera is used just as much, if not more, than the rear camera.
I don't have numbers so I wont pull any out of my arse. All I can say is that; I have never used the front camera, I do not know anyone personally that does use the front camera. It serves no function.

This whole half-in/half-out thing is kinda stupid. Just put a black bar at the top, crowd it with whatever technology you need, and be done with it. They seem to be continuously in a solution looking for a problem mode.

Am I the only one who this "notch" thing just doesn't bother or affect me at all? It just isn't an issue for me. I don't get it.
I use both the iPhone 12 Pro Max and the Samsung S21 Ultra. One has the notch, one has the punch out hole - neither bother me. I don't even notice they exist while browsing the web, playing games, watching movies, texting, etc.

i think the whole-punch approach has some limitations over the notch though, no?
Yes, there's no way you can fit a whole face recognition array into a notch - that we currently know of. You need something to project IR dots, something to see those IR dots, and a regular camera. It could maybe be possible to pull all of that off with micro sized mirrors and three cameras all sharing the same lens...or, this punch hole will never happen and it will all just be under the display.

How is it a better experience when you’re wearing gloves? At least now with the right gloves I can unlock my phone without having to enter my passcode. I get that Face ID isn’t perfect (though better now that an Apple Watch can unlock your phone when you have a mask on) but fingerprint sensors aren’t perfect either.
Neither is perfect but fingerprint sensor works in many more situations.
Face ID can fail even without a mask, with some sunglasses, some hats,in certain lightnings, with head tilted, etc
Fingerprint sensor can only fail when wearing gloves.

This is absolutely terrible for me. This design is one of the most ugly things I’ve seen in years; I absolutely hate the away android phones cut a curved small notch in cheap phones and the round camera dump in others. This rumor must be wrong just like the oled ipads rumor, absolutely horrible.

Or if you have clammy hands.

I just realized Apple is calling this a “Punch Hole”. I mean the jokes write themselves... 😂

I don’t think it really matters what the cut out is. People will notice it for 30 seconds, and then move on with their lives.
Same if they remove it, people will open the phone, think it’s cool for 30 seconds and then completely forget it ever existed
until you watch videos or play a game. the notch would have been the thing to "forget" if they didnt demand that apps "fill" the screen, the notch wouldnt be a problem. instead, part of my media is either cut off or set to an odd aspect ratio.

i'd much rather take the small dot of space and have a normal rectangle for the phone.

I don’t understand this trend in phone designs; there’s almost no phone with a regular design and good specs; all the models now have this absolutely ugly small curved notch or camera cut and the system ui is even worst.

What happened to that pop-up front camera tech? It died a silent death did it? I saw some of those phones in the wild for a few months when they were all the rage - which was what? 2016? 2017?. But it's been a couple of years since I saw one though.

personally, i find the punch hole design to be far less attractive than the notch, so i sincerely hope it's just a dirty rumor. having all that under the display would be amazing though.

Maybe Apple long term plan of Face ID under display is too hard to do so they are set to remove it so in 2023 they can put under display camera on and punch hole is the stop gap for a year

I’ve never had Face ID fail me other than when I have a mask on. I even have require attention setting turned on. I have family members with non Face ID phones who turned Touch ID off because it would never work for them. Especially here in a colder climate where ones fingers can get dry and cracked easily.
