These ones....

That's an edge, not a corner. iPhone's currently have rounded edges. They've always had rounded corners.

Anyway, I digress. Flat edges would be really nice to have again on the iPhone. Especially because a lot of people still find the bezels to be very thick (myself included). The rounded edges contribute around 30-40% to perceived bezel thickness.

Here is Apple's own diagram of the iPhone Xs Max:

That light grey outer edge you see in the image is the rounded edge of the iPhone. Flat edges will make the iPhone appear to have significantly less bezel.

WOW is that ugly. I would have thought they’d focus on making the forehead of the phone smaller but instead they’re focused on making back uglier.

I’ve had every iPhone since the 3GS but this might be the first iteration I’m seriously considering skipping. What a shame if this is going to be the end result.

Sure, but it's about the balance of quality vs. convenience. That's how 35mm film started in the first place, as it was "good enough" for most people who didn't want to lug around medium or large format cameras. I don't think many medium format digital users complain about DSLR progress, despite it not equalling medium format digital.

Phone tech has reached a plateau, for the most part, so camera improvements make sense.

right! that's because DSLR cameras are not getting larger and uglier. i'm all for improving the quality of the camera, just not when it makes the phone uglier and bulkier. i just happen to find apple products very attractive and i hate seeing renderings such as these.

I wonder if the bump is intentional for 1 reason: to sell cases. there's two pronged reason.

First prong: Cash money. Easy.
Second prong: photo quality. Now this is 100% a theory with no evidence but if the camera protrudes and the depth of the case is only a fraction of a millimeter thicker then you would not risk the case impacting the light getting to the camera. However, if the camera is flush to the body of the phone, the case then may block or otherwise obscure the light that reaches the camera distorting the quality or making the photo captured appear different in terms of brightness etc.

Just a thought for why the camera bump may be intentional.

This whole three-camera setup seems ridiculous to me. The only reason Apple switched from the horizontal camera setup to a vertical one is because they couldn't fit cameras behind the FaceID system...how is this monstrosity going to fit?

There are no two cameras next to each other horizontally. Next to the upper camera is the flash and I assume that takes up way less space than a camera would.

Obviously R coming before S doesn‘t mean R is better. It comes before S. Higher = better. And 5 and 5C weren‘t sold at the same time. 5C replaced the 5 and was sold alongside the 5S, so again: 5C & 5S, higher = better.
You’re right about the 5c timing, but wrong that a letter coming after another in sequence somehow means the second letter denotes better or higher. We’ve been trained from a very young age that the first letter is “better”.

Only that with phones we‘ve been taught that higher is better. Galaxy S is better than Galaxy A for example, or Moto Z is better than Moto E or G. And since you mentioned Schiller and the car reference, an S class is better than an A class and an RS6 is better than an S6, and an S6 is still better than than an A6. It‘s okay, you have your opinion and I have mine. For the third time, neither of us will know for sure until September.

If a camera bump makes you excited for a new phone sad life u have indeed

If a camera bump makes you upset about a new phone, you have an even sadder life. I like nice gadgets with quality cameras. Nothing sad about that, at all.

I just updated my post with a macrumors thread when it first leaked. Many were calling it “gross”, “ugly”, and “un-apple”

https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/possible-iphone-4g-images-surface.899393/

The lines in the frame were definitely weird at first, especially because they were seemingly random (two on the lower sides and one on top) but I never thought it was gross or ugly. But when Steve explained that the whole frame is actually the antenna system, the crowd went nuts. It‘s still my favorite iPhone design of all times. Many seem to prefer the 5 but I don‘t like the design of the back - because of the mix of materials and because of the positioning of the camera - and it was too light for my taste. The 4 felt more premium and it was a simpler design.

Not the one you quoted and I don‘t mind the camera bump because I slap a case on my phone anyway but I don‘t understand why Apple doesn‘t go with a thicker phone in order to eliminate the bump and add a bigger battery. I think there are more people who want better battery life and to get rid of the camera bump than there are people who want a phone that‘s a millimeter thinner.

What methodology did you use to conduct that study? Please share the results. I am sure you're far better and more experiencee at market research than Apple.

This is just fugly. No reason to upgrade from the X yet...I wanted to give Pixel a try, but that big notch and chin of Pixel 3 XL are so bad and look outdated. I think I'm going to give the Pixel 4 a try this year, looks much better, similar to S10 based on leaks.

iPhone has gotten so stale now. We need a smaller model and a folding one too.

I didn't think they could come up with an uglier design.... but ....wow...

Instead of getting rid of that ugly notch they were like ' how can we make it just as ugly in the back...'

I guess it was really all about S jobs .... they went from one of the best designs to one of the ugliest after his passing!
