OK, you asked for it... Apple died with Steve, which is rolling over in his grave, because of "bean counter" Timmy and his lack of good ideas.
People like you say this but I like my current Apple products more then I did in years past.

im not asking for a major change but at least spice it up a bit, when you have the same look for years it does get boring, dark mode isnt exciting for me, I want little things like hide homebar etc but just something to get excited about again, it feels like iOS and apple has forgotten what made them so special, even apple fans like my self are moaning, I have every device and won't change but I just the spice back from apple

Change for the sake of change is always a bad idea.

iPhones and iOS were never spicy, you couldn’t even change the background with the original iPhone or even cut and paste.

You might be looking for something else.

I’m happy iOS hasn’t changed , that’s why i keep buying iPhones. It’s also the reason I still keep buying macs. Now mac os hasn’t really changed since 2001 either.

Guess some apple users prefer what you find boring.

I'm honestly not sure what home screen redesign you're expecting on iPhone / iPod touch. The ability to add more icons per page would be nice, and maybe a return to the aesthetics of iOS 6 and earlier, but that's all I can think of.

The home screen on iOS is like the Dock on MacOS. Not much about it has changed, because Apple mostly got it right early on. Use a Mac running 2002's OS X Jaguar and the Dock looks / works much the same as today, aside from the different icons and addition of Stacks in Leopard.

Windows also looks the same - icons on the desktop and a taskbar for popular items below. Sure Microsoft tried to change things up with Win 8, but most PCs I come across have been switched to work more like Win 7 (which is why there are a gazillion YouTube videos telling people how to get the classic start menu back and so on).

I don't know anyone who ever liked the "tiles".

So removing the homebar would do it for you? What are some examples of what you would want them to come out with? Anything besides widgets?

everything apple is doing now days is underwhelming, they lost the spark that made them special, its a hard time to be a hardcore apple fan :(

iPhone XS Max, Apple Watch, airpods, 12.9 IPad Pro, iMac pro, Apple TV, Apple Pay, Face ID etc etc. it’s actually a great time to be a hardcore apple user.

It’s the integration that makes apple and iOS special.

Ballmer .

If iOS13 doesn't have a complete refresh and redesign after the lacklustre iOS12 I'll be so disappointed. The UI is plain and simply horrible. I cant believe we've had those ***** icons for 6 years from a company that is supposes to be world class when it comes to design.
The icons are easily organized in folders and are right in your face. Any attempt to change up the grid design would likely lead to a worse user experience.

I do agree and I love all my apple products and I always have the latest but I just wish little things could be done like simple macOS I want my 2 stereo home pods to output my Mac not just iTunes little things that im waiting for

I guess this means that dark mode is real but I was hoping for an iOS 6 to iOS 7 moment. And toolbar controls at the bottom of the screen because you know, ergonomics.

But I guess if it ain’t (largely) broke...

PIP and split screen are available where it makes sense, on the iPad. The iPhone screen is just too small to make that a good user experience.

I hate these news threads. All the whiners hang out here.

Anyone expecting some sort of fundamental re-thinking of iOS every year are not thinking straight. Apple is about user experience for the 98% of users who don't haunt these forums. Most of them have voted with their feet and chosen the Apple UI over the more customizable Android UI. That's just the facts of life. As we've seen, it takes everything has for Apple to keep providing yearly updates, and even then they had to take a "breather" year with iOS 12 to bring the system level stuff up to snuff.

If you really, really want to be free of the grid, choose Android. Its that simple.

So it's not fathomable so have a rethinking of the UI with a good experience. I know we cant fathom the thought of innovation.

Exactly HOW hard would a toggle "Hide dock" be; turn off the UI element. Or change color of this UI element. Very simply code changes with a toggle. THAT would affect the experience? I mean "c'mon man."

"Most of them have voted with their feet and chosen the Apple UI over the more customizable Android UI"

Uhhhhh in what reality exactly? The numbers simply dont back that up. Android global market share is 75%, Apple is 23%. http://gs.statcounter.com/os-market-share/mobile/worldwide

Apple shipments are down nearly 1/3 (I believe around that % I cant find the graphic) year to year, more than any OEM.

People are clearly NOT overwhelming choosing iPhones- less than 1 out of 4 people globally. And Apple would kill for even a few percent of those; as that is millions of sales.

Look I've only owned 2 Android phones ever many years ago (a G2 and a Galaxy S5) and dont trust Google to go use them nowadays, but owned every iphone since the 3GS; however denial is also a river in Egypt and Im not in it here that iOS is stale and could be improved to bring users in/back

We might get it. I think that's what most are saying here, this is just a small leak. I'd like picture in picture also, but we should reserve judgement until the keynote.

Plus this is reportedly not going to be supported with older phone like the 6, does the dark mode really use the much processor resources?

You could be dead right. The fact iOS is portrayed in the body of iPhone X, not Xs proves it even more.
They probably got the screenshots from their source and photoshopped them into an iPhone X device frame, for which templates are probably more easily available than iPhone XS. The wallpaper is meaningless; software engineers are not involved with that decision and it’s chosen very late in the game.

There’s a difference between “reportedly” and people on MacRumors and Reddit talking out of their rear ends.

You’ll be disappointed then. It’s just a black theme, nobody said anything about a major redesign. People project what they want in a rumor. If you expect too much out of it you’ll be disappointed. Best to hope for less.

Should be and immense improvement for battery life. The darker the better!

But good God is that Find My icon awful. A step back.

It will fit right in.

I myself am just waiting to officially see what Apple does next week. If its lackluster then i'll move onto something else and leave iPhone behind. I'll still use their other products since I need them for my work but I can definitely drop iPhone and have no problem in doing so. Apple is extremely slow at getting even the most basic things changed. They really are hindering developers in general on their platform.
