I see this as an arranged leak to be honest, also really not sure about white and black, didn't the white 3gs have a black front though?

Yes, but the white version also had a black front. It looks like The main scheme is white, maybe corresponding to the new iOS color.

Remembering the iPhone white colour fiasco they had several years ago, I guess Apple has finally got this white colour for iPhone sorted out now judging by all those phones in testing.

The connector hole seems too large. It may be some random knockoff.
Another possibility is that the depicted iPhones are prototypes used in early testing, although the reported identity of the poster makes this absurd.

Obviously my opinion is subjective and simply based on what I see around me (and Shanghai is a 1st tier city) but I don't think that the average Chinese consumer will consider the 5C as targeted toward them specifically, or that they're being belittled by being sold what some here will consider and 'inferior' product. It's just competing with the lower end of the market that they're already used to.

For every iPhone I see in people's hands, I see plenty of oversized samsungs on the metro and then a ton of cheapo android phones from local manufacturers. The ironic tendency is that the smallest girls normally carry the biggest phones. Everyone sits on the metro in a trance either watching video or playing random games. So phablets are also popular as a convergence device.

I still see tons of 4/4S's but that may just be historic, it may also be that it's a low priced inroad into the apple brand. I think the 5C will succeed simply because it's new, has a bigger screen than the 4/4S and comes in candy colours. I see a load of people that cover their phones in stickers on the back and home button so customisation is also quite popular. Like I mentioned, these are the kind of consumer who lives at home (most young Chinese seem to live with their parents up until they get married - so few expenses) and many have a low salary so saving 2000rmb on a 5S is a big deal.

I've also noticed that as many have mentioned - you often pay upfront for the phone - say 5000rmb goes into your phone account when you start the contact, then it gets nibbled away with every month of service (plus an additional top up for service) so the upfront fee for the device is quite important. There are of course different setups but this is how a friend of mine does it on China Unicom. 'Credit' for the average consumer seems hard to swing because (rightly or wrongly) corporations don't trust that a consumer won't try to screw them over by vanishing with a phone they haven't paid for.

On the flip side, consumers with disposable income will tend to buy the "best" model they can, simply because it has more prestige. These kind of people like many see the apple brand as more affluent than something made around the pacific rim. For them the gold one will surely sell incredibly well. - also the kind of people who buy macbook pros to run windows on -_-

That was kind of long and rambling - but I hope my humble POV is interesting.

A little long yes, ;) but very we'll read and good insight. Thanks for taking the point to provide 1st hand account and perspective from mainland China.

While I do not live in China, I do have Chineese born friends in America and they act in a similar fashion so and think along the same lines with parallel ideals so I agree with what you said.

Cooooool! But with so much colors I think it would be nice if the os itself changes to the corresponding color of the shell. I mean like WP8 has accent color. It would be awesome if the os recognizes the color of the iPhone and changes the main scheme color of the os, just like it does on the boot up screen. :)

iTunes (the Mac application) knows what colour your iPod or iPhone is, so I suppose the OS on the iPhone itself would also know.

At the price point where the 5c will be coming in; it will be too little too late - these countries have too many options already available with better specs. The 5c will most like replace existing iPhones but will not grab a majority share in terms of new purchases

Depends on the actual price and options it comes with IMO.

If it is comparably priced and equipped well (not necessarily adding new features but more importantly without losing features from the current iPhone they are using [4/ 4S maybe] now) in comparison with other brands it will be OK I think; and maybe sell real good depending on color options.

However, if it costs more than the current model iPhone options available from Apple, and will include less tech than they are already used too (such as max 8/16 GB storage vs up to 64 GB on the 4S) in order to differentiate it from the supposed 5S, I think Apple will have a hard time selling just the new color at a premium considering everything else will actually be worse off.

I truly believe Apple will do something along the lines of a basic iPhone 5 internals with less storage, maybe 16 GB, and the candy colored rear shell options as the 5C. This way the phone IS an upgrade to the 4/4S and worthy of an upgrade AND Apple can keep costs down and selling price down.

Just my .02

In some of the earlier dev versions of iOS 7 the reboot splash screen would be a different color depending on the color of your phone. So, if your phone was white the reboot flash screen would be white with a black Apple logo, and if it was black the screen would be black with a white Apple logo.

Just a batch

I don't think this is the only color we are getting. Remember that they probably test by batches, and each batch would have a uniform color. Imagine the chaos that will ensue in a factory when random colors come out of a treadmill. This is a batch of whites, there could be more out there so don't worry too much about the color. Leaks did say we would have a rainbow of Lumia-like colors with the cheaper iPhone.

Lots of non-Apple Lightning cables in that photo. At least, many are a type of Lightning cable that I've never seen offered by Apple.

I also find it difficult to believe that Apple would approve of a testing process that's this much of a disorganized mess.

My bet: These are knockoffs, not the real deal.

Time will tell if these are real or fake. Personally I liked the plastic case of the 3S after shattering the back of my 4S and upgrading to the 5.

Why do people care about colors when you can easily put a protective case on your phone?

It could just be a stress test. It may not even be the final products. You have a point. Finished products should have a more... careful quality testing. At least for the case's sake.. or if they do test like these, they could be naked or at least in a protective casing.

well, i have to admit, the 5C does look like the iphone, if the sides were painted silver i would've never been able to tell if that's the 5C or the 5S. i hope it does well in the market.:)

Who says the casing is not protected by let's say a protective film of some sort?

good point... but that would be counter productive and rather wasteful. After all, a case can be reused many times, but a film would have to be thrown out after one or two uses.

I find it hard to believe this is a genuine picture of an Apple sanctioned iPhone testing ground. Even a high school science club is more meticulous. Also confounding is that some here think it's a controlled leak by Apple as if this picture does anything to enhance Apple's image.

I could be wrong, but don't think so because I just can't see anyone from Apple's leadership visiting Pegatron and being OK with that Mickey Mouse set up. But if I am wrong then Apple is headed for a world of hurt because just as a dirty restaurant bathroom usually means dirty kitchen too, same goes for manufacturing: sloppy testing facilities usually mean sloppy manufacturing and QC. Too much is at stake here for Apple, esp. Cook, to knowingly allow that to happen now.
