So, let's get this straight, Apple, who's market valuation exceeds $1.5 Trillion is going to save a few bucks by selling us a new iPhone without a charger and earbuds, which we will need to purchase separately? Come on Mr. Cook, that's not playing nice with your customers. Or, are you offering a "discounted" iPhone without the charger and earbuds and a "regularly" priced iPhone that includes the charger and earbuds? You marketing geniuses are brilliant. No, really. This is brilliant.

Please quantify for all us the exact nature of the environmental impact that it will have.

- By slimming down the packaging and reducing the gross weight and shipping dimensions, fewer resources are allegedly needed to ship them, saving Apple a lot of money. Can you provide the exact details on the amount of fuel not burned because of this (and proof that this will actually be the case and not just negated by other transport practices) and then also the direct environmental impact from that exact reduction in emissions? I'd be interested to see how this would amount to something in the face of China outdoing the entire world on emissions 1000x over.

- Can you share specific details on exactly how many chargers and EarPods are discarded every year due to the specific reason that the person doesn't need them? From that, can you provide the specific environmental impact details that from number of discarded chargers and EarPods? That will be fascinating too considering most people do not throw away brand new things, and instead hold on to them for the future, or give them to people who need them, or sell them.

...or are you just doing what everyone else is doing and guessing that there must be SOME environmental impact even if you cannot possibly comprehend or codify it. Yeah, that's what I thought.
You can argue against this decision all you want, but this isn’t the first time this has happened. Remember the removal of the DVD drive on MacBooks? The headphone jack? The notch? We had this same argument, but Apple went and did it anyway, despite the criticism.

And then what happened, after ridiculing Apple? The other electronics manufacturers did exactly the same, and now nobody cares. And if you do, you have options.

whichever way you look at it, it’s happening, and it’s for the best. Those of us who don’t use the charger in the box can do our bit for the planet by not complaining and using the chargers we already have, and those who do still have the option to buy it separately. It’s win win. Apple will produce millions less chargers/headphones.

yes I get it, you can make the argument of Apple nickel and diming us etc, but the vast majority of users couldn’t care less, and if you’re spending $1000 on a phone what’s another $30? We don’t buy new phones to get another charger, which usually sucks anyway (5w, no quick charge), we buy them to use day to day. If it matters that much to you, buy an android phone but then don’t complain when they start omitting the charger.

Also, if you’re gonna complain that Apple won’t pass on that savings to you, you’re buying the wrong brand. Samsung wouldn’t do that either.

there are 100s of third party options that are way higher quality and cheaper than apples cables and chargers anyway. May I suggest Anker.

Knowing Apple, I think that'll what they do in this case. Say these things are not needed but not drop the price.

also decrease in shipping cost for the entire packaging being lighter.

I would image the decrease in shipping cost won't be because it's lighter, but because they fit 70-100% more phones on a plane if they can reduce the size of the box in half.

The plane will actually probably be less full because each package will be denser, but they will have 1/2 the flights needed.

Exactly, I have no idea why people on here don’t understand that including a charger in millions of iPhone boxes isn’t better for the environment. A large majority of comments have stated that Apple still ships a 5W charger on all but the pro models, which no one uses anyway! And safety issues by including headphones? What?
Why you just don’t stop using iPhone, car and other staff to make environment better? The less people buy all these the less production will be created. it is very easy.

Getting an iPhone without a charger is like buying a house without furniture. You probably have your own, and if you don't you probably want to pick out your own.

There are way better chargers out there than the white brick. There are chargers with prongs that fold back, with multiple ports, with batteries that make it portable. Why would you want a brick charger when I can have a portable battery with 2 USB-C ports, USB-PD, and collapsing prong so I can plug it into the wall as well.

I really hope they don't go for the words "exquisite thinner box" when they're announcing it on stage.
And without Jony to say it, it would be so truly, exquisitely disappointing.

Getting an iPhone without a charger is like getting steak without sauce.
This analogy would be more for the earbuds. It would less enjoyable, but you could still eat. For the charger, you could say you get the steak but it's in a locked container, and they don't give you the key unless you go to a store and buy it.

Seriously, though, why are you putting sauce on steak, people?

People new to iPhone or switching from Android will find it easier if a charger and earbuds are in the box. Perhaps some “new to iPhone“ boxes with a fast charger and earbuds should be available.

You would seriously forego using a smartphone entirely because this particular phone doesn't come with a charger that you clearly already have? What sense does that make?

So you’re ok with this? I am not and the only recourse I have is not to buy it.

he’s rage-quitting “technology”

Are you 12? You're purposely misunderstanding my point

I have no problem if they leave out the Ear Pods and the charger. But the price of the phone needs to be adjusted if
they leave out $29 headphones and the $19 charger.
I don't think they will give you retail value off the phone; but I would like to see the option to apply for the charger/ get one in store free with purchase if you need one. Most of us have some laying around, but what about when they get lost, broken, sold on with a phone etc down the line?

I knew this was a Twitter “leaker” just based on the title of the article.

The earbuds I understand, but selling an electronic device without a way to charge it included in the box makes no sense to me. This is going to create a lot of bad will and bad press to save a trivial amount of money.
