Oh. I bet the 16" will have a 8TB option where the 14" may not. or maybe 2 SSDs? there has to be more than size of screen setting them apart.
Why should there be something setting them apart? Typically the only difference between the iPhone Pro/iPad Pro’s two sizes are screen size and battery capacity. This year’s models are a rare exception with the mini LED display and larger camera sensor on the larger models, but otherwise they’re identical, as have previous generations. As someone who prefers a smaller form factor I’d be thrilled to get the same internals of the 16” in a smaller form factor. Half the reason Apple decided to make its own chips was so it could do stuff like this.

$2K for a base level 14inch MacBook Pro? No thanks. But it's one way perhaps in the current times of chip shortages to maximise profit $ and not be able to meet all orders perhaps...

I have an MBA M1 and a Mac Mini M1 and love them both - waiting for an M1X device - I do a lot of video & photo work and love the M1 for it - M1X would be great but not at $2K... expectations set by MBA for $999 are part of this...

For $2K there would have to be a LOT of RAM included and a LOT of SSD...

16 GB RAM and 512 GB SSD is very likely

I love my ‘18 pro but it’s time to upgrade as my AC+ expires in few months. I do however send my ‘18 for repair yesterday and they replaced the keyboard, battery, and top shell. Whoever gets this computer will be practically getting it like new :)

I just hope these aren't really the mid-range models, with the real ones to come next year (like they did with the 13 earlier this year).

and that the storage and RAM upgrade prices are something remotely reasonable. 125-150% aftermarket is fine. 300% isn't.

Seriously, has Apple ever come up with the level that consumers want, such as the size of RAM or SSD?

The base models will start with 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD.
The base model is the current M1 MBP. The 14 inch will replace the Intel MBP13.

Prices are going up on literally everything since lockdown is over. No surprise here, though it would be nice if we could get the economy to settle down.

bull--. the 14/16" are the higher end models. even todays higher end 13" (with 4 tb3-ports) and the base 16" come with 16gb ram/512gb ssd.

Thinking the same I did buy the mbp 13” 16gb ram and 256GB ssd as I was thinking that I’ll update within a year anyway so I was thinking of buying 32gb ram and 1tb ssd of the next mbp 13/14”.

but now I’ll just upgrade my accessory I think. I have already started ;)
AirPods Max
32” LG 4K ultra fine
Webcame
Magic Mouse etc.
Do you use the 32" in hidpi mode or full 4k

Apple gross margin has usually sat at around 38%, in 2021 that rose to an eye watering 42.5%. Apple is not about offering you value for money, Apple is about charging you the most they can get away with to maximize their profits without you switching platform or not upgrading.
Their hardware margins are around 32% for the quarter and 36% for the year (which was a jump up from 30% last year: https://www.cnbc.com/2021/04/28/app...-produced-a-42point5percent-gross-margin.html). What's particularly high is Apple's services margins (around 70%), although an estimated 20% of services revenue is from Google paying Apple to make Google the default search engine (source: https://www.forbes.com/sites/greats...-the-surge-in-apples-margins/?sh=2baa2fd722cd)

You are correct though that Apple is not a "value" company. They never have been. However, the value of products always depends on a person's interpretation. After dealing with various Windows-based and high end Chromebooks for the past few years, I'm extremely happy to be back using a Mac laptop (although most of my computing is using a Ryzen-based system I built). The value I receive is worth any premium I might have paid.

I would imagine that making another sku for an 8gb M1x is more expensive than just making 16/32 skus. They probably wouldn’t gain much money in upgrade costs to offset manufacturing more chips.

This, I find it hard to believe that anyone didn’t expect prices to rise since JPows money printer has been going full blast. We should be thankful we’re not in hyperinflation territory yet.

Same port number on 14" and 16" ??

do they ditch any like HDMI or SD Card?

thoughts?

The leaked chassis designs from Quanta show three USB4/TB, HDMI and MagSafe and I believe might have shown SD Card, as well.

If I can get a 14 inch with 2 TB of storage and 32 gigs of ram for under $2500 I'll be very happy. Who am I kidding, it's going to be closer to $3K isn't it? Either way, very happy to finally have 14 inches coming out

I would RAM and SSD upgrade prices to match what they charge for Intel, so that would be $400 for 32GB and $200 for 1TB so $2399 to $2599 seems plausible.

I am 200% confident that they will be the same 16GB and 512GB as the Intel models.

We've seen Apple maintain the same base RAM and SSD configurations with the Air, the 13.3" MacBook Pro, the 24" iMac and the Mac mini when moving from Intel to Apple Silicon.

Won't there be a base model of the new 14" and 16"?

Isn't this a thread about "Upcoming MacBook Pro to See Price Hike Over Current Model, Equal Performance Across 14 and 16-Inch Sizes".

Again, the base model of 14" and 16" will start with 8GB of RAM and 256GB SSD. Why would Apple suddenly change their tactics and offer what consumers want in the base models?

Uh… did you read the article?
The 14 inch and the 16 inch will have the exact same specifications, which has never been done by Apple in the past.
Some people can’t justify lugging around an almost 5 pound 16 inch machine.
This 14 sounds perfect for most people, and for those who only need a bigger screen the 16 inch is around.
But other than screen size you won’t be getting any benefits. So yes, you could buy the 14 inch without feeling like you’re missing out on any power
No, not "exact same specifications". Same performance.

Dylandkt also told MacRumors that the 14-inch MacBook Pro will be priced around the current high-end 13-inch model, which it is expected to replace in the lineup
