I don’t get this…where does the “black” come from? If the coating is deep, then why does non-black Apple leather case get black so easily?!

My Baltic blue case edge turned black in 1.5 days from just me holding it while gaming.

From pic above, clearly the leather itself is NOT as thin as people say it is. Maybe the sweat/cleaner interacts with the leather can makes it black???
Black? You mean the darker parts? Thats from leather care. You're correct, the leather is not "thin". I went all American Psycho with it. Why your Baltic blue turned black so quickly I have no idea. This brown one did not take in anything before the knife treatment.

yeah, the edges on non-black Apple leather cases turn black after a month’s use from what i am reading. And i believe it because my BB case Edge turn black from just holding it and maybe mild palm sweat. I did NOT use any alcohol or sanitizer wipes nor any other chemical. Weird.

No. It turns black becasue it rubs on every surface mostly on the edges. Especially in your pockets. This rubs away the coating and allows it to take in oils quickly at the edges only. It’s not a true black, mostly just dark dark blue.

It happens on all square edged Apple Leather Cases. look at the 5/5s cases!

I’ve got two issues simultaneously actually, with two separate orders. The first order was from when I had my 12 Mini. They took three days to ship it out, it got stuck at USPS somewhere on its way to me for two full weeks (that part is not their fault), I reached out for help on a refund for the priority shipping I had paid for, and was told they couldn’t do anything about it being stuck (ignoring my shipping refund request). It was only after a second time of requesting the shipping refund that they gave it to me. In between the time of ordering and delivery, I got a 12 Pro Max. I requested a refund when I finally received it, sent it back, and now over a week after they have received it back, they have yet to issue the refund and only told me today that their refunds/exchanges department has been overwhelmed recently. Their returns policy says returns are processed in 3 business days. Still waiting after five business days.

A week ago I ordered the same case for my new 12 Pro Max, and received the order earlier today. But they sent me the case for a 12 Pro/12, and this again after having to wait three days for them to actually send it out, but at least USPS got it to me quickly this time. I have sent customer service a pretty pissed email after all that has happened, and they’ve yet to respond. I don’t have the patience to wait around for them to make this all right, so I’ve demanded a refund and will stick with my Baltic Blue leather case and Apple leather wallet.

I’ve currently got $150 invested in this company’s products, and all I’ve got is a “we will give you refund when we can get to it” response, and a case that I don’t own a phone for.

It’s a real shame, because the quality of the product is unbelievably good.
So an update re: the above Bullstrap mess. They have had two people contact me today who have been quite generous in their responses. They issued a refund for the one order, and they say they are expediting the replacement for the order where I received the wrong item. I’m giving them one last chance, if only because I’m in awe of the quality, ha.

The “leather” is a black material that they paint over. 100% lab grade isopropyl alcohol or acetone wiped on a brand new case removes the color immediately.

I don’t think that this is true??

Here is my baltic blue case. I first tried dabbing a sheet of toilet paper soaked in the ethanol and it immediately soaked up the blue. I just ordered a black leather case to compare the two. I only spent a few minutes taking the color off and will do it again when I get a chance to take off any blue dots remaining

So it is leather but the blue color is painted on?

I think it’s still blue leather. Just painted over with another shade of blue. It would explain why all the cut pieces are their respective colours all the way through.

I really don’t think its real genuine leather anymore, some kind of synthetic. But yea the baltic blue and saddle brown both immediately turned black when I lightly dabbed the solution on them!! At least now my baltic blue looks better and dont have to throw it away!

This my BB case with black edge after 1.5 days of gaming. Ridiculous. The case is barely 3-4 weeks old. No alcohol. No sanitizer wipes. I baby the case.

It is true indeed. Even the saddle brown version is now painted. That is why it doesn't "age" as they used to = the paint obviously doesn't take in any grease etc which normally leads to the ageing process we were so accustomed to. Its funny though how some fans are cheering that the ageing process has started when, in fact, the paint has worn out of the corners. I wish all saddle brown owners good luck when waiting for the process to happen. :D

What a waste of time lol, I prefer the original colour.

But is it still leather underneath the color paint??? That is what I am having trouble understanding.

Its definitely not the “European leather” anymore! I dont think anyone can tell you what the material is. Its either a synthetic blend or sourced from an animal that even Apple does not know or care to know.
