I used a damp magic eraser to remove the bulk of the coating. Once dry I gave it a wipe down with a alcohol wipe. My case is butter smooth with a nice shine and patina developing across the back.

Thank you! Just got my goldenbrown leather case for 13 Max this morning, I’m still hesitant of doing it maybe I’ll wait after a month or two of use. ?
Do what I did. Initially I was hesitant on removing the coating in fear of ruining a 65€ case. I used it for a month and the patina became so horrendous that I figured out I could not make it more ugly than it already was.
Agreed, my first saddle brown case I used for 2 months, grew to hate how it looked and then I removed the coating. By then the edges were so far worn in that the rest of the case still looked pretty bad. So then I tried to make the back of the case match the edges by adding neetsfoot oil and leather balms. Basically wound up ruining the case and it ended up in the trash. From there I used a variety of other mediocre cases until the Saddle brown went on sale as I refused to pay full price again. I Picked one up for $29 about a month ago and removed the coating on day one and just left it to patina on its own from there. Best choice I made. The case is aging beautifully and the patina is happening on the back where it touches my hands just like on the sides. Its the leather that Apple should have sold in the first place. I know its scary to intentionally remove something from a brand new expensive case but in the long run you'll be glad you did it.

Here’s my Andar trio and all are 3 are Camel Tan.
The phone case is 3 months old and used daily and I only use the Mag wallet when I want to carry 2 cards which has only been once or twice since I bought it.

Patina on the California Poppy is awful. Black leather held up pretty good.
Camel Tan with patina has more amber undertones than the Brown I think.
Camel Tan looks really close to the old Saddle Brown 11 and earlier Apple cases once you get some age on them, IMO.
That looks really nice! I just got mine today, but I’ve noticed the that there’s very little lip protection for the screen not sure if it’s just mine. Are you or anyone else experiencing that issue?
My Andar has a lot more lip than my Apple leather case does.

I have an Apple leather case for this phone and the Andar lip is substantially higher.

Idk if it’s just me being picky but I got this case yesterday new. The top corners look maybe cracked? I know leather when being stretched and molded get weird creases but I can feel the grooves with my nail. I went ahead and got a replacement just to be sure.
Was so excited to do the alcohol wipes method but not until I get my replacement.

Thats pretty common for leather. Its just the way the leather is stretched and folded over the corner. I don’t have that exact combination. I have the dark cherry case and the saddle brown wallet. I like the colour combo
Today I decided to treat my saddle brown: a vigorous clean up with isopropyl alcohol followed by hand cream. Here’s a picture with the not yet treated wallet.
It’s like beauty and the beast……wallet needs to find a better looking mate…..
