My black leather case was only used for a week at most. I need to use it more often. It is such a nice color and it does make the phone look slick.

Try it again! It looks awesome. The red is nice too though, especially the patina you got on it now. Keep it going!

Thanks! I’m trying to keep it going. I find myself trying to pick which case to use for the next few days though. But, I’ll try and stick with the red leather case for a while longer.

With all this coronavirus madness going on, I have been cleaning my phone and Apple leather case with rubbing alcohol. I assume this is bad for the leather huh? Kinda scared to go careless.

Rubbing Alcohol is a big no go (I’ve had experience with it😂) I’ve been using a disinfectant wipe (that’s what some manufacturers recommend) then gently whipping the residue with a damp rag. Just make sure to condition the case after because the wipe can dry the leather out (same with the alcohol)

Thanks for the advice! Will do. The case somehow does feel softer now. Lol. I only did it like 4-5 times. Hopefully didn’t cause any irreversible damages.

The case will fell softer and have more grip after using an alcohol wipe. I used two purell alcohol wipes on my saddle brown case, let it dry for about 30 minutes then applied Smith’s leather balm to it. It sped up the patina process and added a ton of grip, but the end result isn’t for the faint of heart. Up close the case doesn’t look all that great.

I reached out to nomad regarding disinfecting and this is what they said.

“Thanks for reaching out. We have been getting this question a lot recently, understandably. I have a couple of recommendations that a few members of our team have tried out to disinfect their phones and cases.

Method One: Soap and Water

1. Lightly moisten a cloth with water and a small amount of soap.
2. Rub the soap on the cloth so that a light lather is created.
3. Lightly clean the leather surface with the soapy cloth.
4. Use a clean, dry cloth to lightly wipe the leather dry (don't use any heat to dry the leather out).
5. This process also cleans the good oils out with the bad, so using a leather conditioner (such as this one on our site) will help restore the good stuff and protect the leather as well.
6. Leave your leather case in a dry environment overnight to continue drying out.

Method Two: Disinfectant Wipe

1. Tear off a piece of a disinfectant wipe and use it to wipe down your entire case.
2. Lightly moisten a cloth with water and wipe down the case to remove any residue
3. Use a clean, dry cloth to lightly wipe the leather dry.
4. See steps 5 and 6 above.

Please note using a disinfectant wipe can result in extreme drying of the leather so we advise precaution and care if you go with this method. We do not recommend using disinfectant wipes on our products in Natural Leather, as we saw it changed the color of the leather”

I personally have not noticed any change in color but I’ve only done it a few times.

Patina Proud!

100% agreed.

Shame they don't put as much time and thought into fixing the stiff buttons on their cases ;)

Thanks to this awesome thread that made me go and buy my leather case for my 18 month old iPhone. Also ended up purchasing nomad case for AirPods. Day 5 picture. Hoping for some patina action.

Sorry for dredging up an old post...Where did you get that apple watch band?? I'm having a hard time getting a decent leather band. the ones I've tried are really cheap feeling.

The 11 pro OB Symmetry is way way better, on par with the Apple leather buttons. Have/had all 3, OB, nomad and apples.
Yes. The new symmetry’s are amazing. I’m talking about the 7+ case I had along time ago, those buttons were terrible.

That is very nice! I wish I had the patience. I ended up returning my saddle brown and went with black. Seeing your case makes me want to get the saddle brown again.
Thanks, it definitely takes patience, but well worth it

Let the Patina begin!! Received the saddle brown yesterday and it will be easy to count how many days as well re April 1st, 2nd etc.

For the technical, 11 Pro Max Gold. Left picture taken is with the Max, second pic (right side) is with an iPad. Haven’t seen too many Gold with the Saddle tho but here you go.

So purely new, makes you lust to patina it 😂
