That's weird, I'm only able to download the stuff for L4D2. I wonder why you're able to do both.

It is strange since it clearly states on the description page for L4D1 "not available on your current platform". It started downloading automatically when I hit the install button that appeared after the payment transaction completed.

For some reason the game available for me to purchase was the 'Low Violence Version.' Is this the version for markets like Australia and Germany?

Yes, for the love of god don't download that version!

There is zero blood, bodies disappear before they hit the ground, and I think even the fire effects are censored.

Google it, but I think the way around it is to change your location in Steam to the USA before purchasing.

Too late. I guess that when I get to play it my faltering sense of morality will not be corrupted by the excessive violence of this murder simulator.

Even with all of the settings all the way down including resolution, it is not playable on my 15" i7 MBP with 512MB of VRAM.

... in OS X.

Works great in Windows. I am disappoint.

seriously?! maybe an update will fix, because that is just lame! you must have the gt 330M then correct?

in my experience about 70% of my games run with better fps on os x than in windows 7, with the settings the same

Yay now I can really delete my W7 Partition!.....uhhh wait....

no I can't

No CS 1.6...... FaCK!

Upgrade to source already, I know its not as great as 1.6 but still, Source is the future.... and you don't have to boot into Windows.

Real sorry to hear that dude :(

You could try the instructions here, but they might not work anymore, or may only work for single player.

I guess MacRumors has become another ordinary Mac News site now.
Just what is so newsworthy about another ultra violent brainless shoot 'em up game being released?
No wonder the world is so ********d up.
Flame on zombies :p

If you are actually in Maui, you'd think you could find far more interesting and rewarding things to do than trolling this thread.

I tried it just for kicks with my mid-2008 white macbook that also runs a GMA to no avail. The game will launch but too glitchy to really navigate around, even with the settings at their absolute lowest. Also, if there's more than one character on screen at a time, audio goes away. The GMA gpu in your MBP might fare slightly better, but for me its unplayable. Luckily I'll be getting a new machine soon.

I'm interested, though. The system reqs. don't even mention the GMA. I mean, naturally, it's a GMA--even if it does run, it will likely be pointless. I kind of want to see if it will even fire up, though. Anyone tried or have other knowledge of this?

I actually do live ON Maui.
And I can't see why having an opinion about something qualifies me as being a troll.
This used to be a rumors site..and a bloody good one at that. Sorry for not being enamored about senseless violence even if it is on my favorite computer platform.
To each his own dude.

people don't realize why their macbook or macbook pro which has GMA graphic card can't play game. because GMA is not supported for any game. you need dedicated graphic card. it's rule for gaming. intel integrated card is not for gaming. that's why I don't play game on macbook or macbook pro. maybe you can try if you bought 2010 macbook pro. it has NVIDIA 330 GT 256MB graphic card. but it is not still enough for modern game. if you have 512 or 1GB, then you can set video for high. unfortunately only high end model offers 512MB.

Like i said, i figured it wouldn't work but it was worth a shot considering L4D2 was on sale for under $7 today. Now that its purchased I'm free to install it on another machine.
Portal seemed to work just fine at medium level graphics when Steam first launched on the Mac, despite that "GMA isn't supported for any game" and I also had no problem with a WoW trial either. Like many Mac users i know, I don't consider gaming to be enough of a priority to invest in that sort of thing. Not that there isn't a market for Mac gaming, as the state of Steam's servers today would suggest.

Finally! Now I can see what all the fuss was about. Of course, all the people I know who were playing it have long since moved on to other things. :(

This used to be a rumors site..and a bloody good one at that.

MacRumors has always been a news and rumors site. Lately, because of the continued growth of the Mac platform, the amount of news has outpaced the number of legitimate rumors.

If you're really tired of all the good news, perhaps you should spend more of your time on one of the many rumor-only sites that publish anything that anyone sends them. ;)

And I can't see why having an opinion about something qualifies me as being a troll.
Posting a strongly-worded opinion followed by the phrase "Flame on zombies" implies that you merely posted to start an argument. If starting an argument was your only intention, that would pretty much fit the definition of trolling. (In my opinion)

<disclaimer> I am merely another poster, and have no official attachment to MacRumors. </disclaimer>

Obvious trolling, but in case anyone does think along those lines.. L4D is one of the most non-brainless FPS around. You could probably use the co-op mode as a team building exercise.

L4D is a very important title for the games industry, whether you like it or not. Its big news we get it on osX too.

It is strange since it clearly states on the description page for L4D1 "not available on your current platform". It started downloading automatically when I hit the install button that appeared after the payment transaction completed.

I guess I'll have to wait the billions of hours that it'll take to download the first L4D when it comes out.

On another note- L4D2 is huge. At my paltry 80something kps it's taken forever. It'd better be a "magical" game:D

Performance L4D2 :apple:

It runs great/smooth on my MacBook Pro 13" (2010, 2.66, 4GB, 320M):

OSX 10.6.5b
Resolution: native (1280x800)
Textures/Effects: High
Filter: Bi/Tri no anisotropic filters *
Shaders: medium *
Antialaising: off *

*I prefer decreasing these settings for all games and try running it on native resolution instead.

:apple:

Sorry for not being enamored about senseless violence even if it is on my favorite computer platform.

You make it sound like by playing the game you are actually killing real people. Paint-ball is far more violent because it actually hurts.
