this is probably a stupid question, but I'm unclear on the availability of the Nike+ App. It mentioned being built-in to the new iPods, but will it be part of the 2.1 upgrade for older devices, namely 1st Gen iPhone?

I believe the return of NBC and the gaming demos/positioning the touch as a gaming device is the big news of this presser. I think this event suffered from fanboy anxiety.

That is the BIG NEWS? What a waste of an event if THAT is the big news.

This should have been done w/o an event....

Seems odd to me that Steve's talk would wrap up in under an hour. Hopefully something more to announce after the Jack Johnson music piece.

Fell asleep, woke up 10min ago...

It seems I practically didn't miss out on anything at all... what waste...

I don't like the new Nanos.... Time to go find the old one...

What a HUGE letdown for iphone users. Seriously, no new features? None at all? No new default apps, no genius built in, no shake-to-shuffle? Have they completely forgotten about the iphone? An we have to wait until friday for this new useless junk (battery savings my ass).

Amazing, simple incredible. I couldn't care less about ipods or earphones.

Uhm, it was an IPOD event.

iPhones already had their huge event. You are seriously whining... Just like at WWDC, the iPods were barely mentioned besides the fact they get the updates too. If I remember right, they had to pay for them. iPhones get the Nike update and stuff for free.

yeah engadget are really being jerks about this

10:52AM One thing about Jack Johnson, he doesn't mind being a corporate shill.

10:52AM Hi Jack. Lay it on us. We better be righteously chilled out when this is over or we want our money back.

Have you heard Jack Johnson?!?! Not exactly "Let's Rock" material!

.... my 5 year old nephew loves his soundtrack to "Curious George" ... 'nuf said.

So does the phone get the Nike+ stuff?

Will be nice to get 2.1 - not sure why we have to wait until Friday though, pretty annoying.

Gutted no push, copy/paste or mms.

Who can possibly:

1) Think of NBC coming back to iTunes a "big deal"

2) Think the touch can come close to being the gaming device the Nintendo DS or Sony PSP is?

I mean cmon Apple isn't that good to turn the touch into a device like that

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOo No new features in 2.1!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What do you mean, no new features?

From what I've seen, it will introduce Genius playlists. That, by definition, is a new feature.

In all likelihood, (if the hardware is there to support it) it will also backport the built-in Nike+iPod compatibility.

OMG this has to be one of the worst events ever and I want my hour back for following this garbage. Can't believe they got rid of the 160GB ipod classic and same old stuff rehashed. Games? I think the Zune has a chance to grow some market share this season. I think other mp3 makers are exhaling and ready to blast past Apple. Oh ya, Phil better give back that extra weight to Steve, he needs it. Steve is very thin.

Lets get a round of applause for serpico, serpico everybody!

hahahaha

this forum is hilarious sometimes...

some of you need to get out more..

its good fun to read how 'apple are doomed' 'apple have lost the plot'...and then in january when they hit you with something way cooler than you thought you change your mind...

hilarious

I'm wondering the same; the info about the iPhone update was way unclear! Will the stuff that's available in the updates for iPod Touch be available in the update for iPhone also?

LAME!

LAME!

Oh did I mention that this was probably the LAMEST iPod event, let alone APPLE EVENT EVER?!?!?!?!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The new nanos could have easily been brought out with a splash page on the home page. The revised touch isn't even worth mentioning in anything other than one of the smaller news blocks at the bottom of Apple.com and software 2.1 is a given.

And WHO THE HELL IS JACK JOHNSON?!?!?!?!?!?!? I listened to a couple of the songs on iTunes and all I could think of was one of the countless no names out there that you can't tell any differences between that you hear pumped over the speakers at a Borders or Starbucks.

also wondering about the 1st gen iPhone Nike+ availability. perhaps it depends on a proprietary chip that they build into the new iPod Touch hardware.

Surely you don't want iTunes 8 to come out and the firmware 2.1 to come out and everyone have to wait 10+ hours to re-activate their iPhone again.

How about Wednesday? Or Thursday? Or how about time-zone roll outs? Or continent roll outs?

Whatever, I don't really care that much, but I was just hoping for some improvements today- not Friday.

<<YAWN>>

Still, I'll probably replace my 2nd gen nano with one of these. The mic could be handy.

I might have to upgrade my touch, just to get the external speaker.

How's that for environmentally sensitive. Great, greeny-products, leading me to toss my old ones!
