Pretty poor overall I thought, have been waiting for a 64GB iPod Touch for a long time.

The new nano's are nice, would probably pick one up if I didn't already have one.

Wonder how many "shots in the mouth" NBC had to take before Apple said "OK, that's enough, get up off your knees, go get yourself cleaned up and we'll continue our meeting about letting you back into the iTunes store."?

*zzzziiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiip* <-Apple's fly as NBC walks to the bathroom with their head hung down in shame.

"Can you believe NBC took that for an hour and a half???? Wow they must have finally realized how stupid they were for leaving us!"

dude, that is crazy

hey hey, so off color but too funny. well played!!

Sigh, that was a waste of an hour of my life.

I really wish we would have heard some news about the MB or MBP.

I was waiting for Jobs to say, well "what better way to manage your iTunes 8 than on a new MBP".
Ditto been waiting since May for the new MacBooks

boring event, as expected, but i'm looking forward to 2.1.....on friday.

purple nano's are cool, don't know if that warrants an event though

So basically, Apple cried wolf. The next time they promise a big, can't-miss event to a reporter, he/she will just say "meh, I'll check with Kevin Rose first; he seems to know better than you do whether it's worth going or not."

Yup. Apple looks desperate now. The updates were fine, but certain none were "game-changing," or "mind-blowing." Apple should lay off the hype and let the products speak for themselves.

They did? How? By emailing an invite to the press so they knew to come?

Are you sure you didn't do that whipping up yourself?
No, they did MUCH more than that Apple execs were quietly calling media members telling them this was to be a "Major" event and they should not miss it. There will be "Big" news released.

So apple cried wolf to the media- not very smart!

secret product was actually all the free market buzz they got by saying "big deal"

Exactly what it was. All could have been done on a press release, but the razzmatazz will get TV/magazine publicity.

Now who cares about Genius in iTunes. All I want iTunes to now is one simple thing: hierarchical sorting so as an example, my Beatles collection has Abbey Road after Please, Please, Me. Now that isn't too hard is it?

Oh, it is...

Do you know ANYTHING about how apple does business? They didn't miss back to school, they moved TONS of iPods and macs with their promotion.

This is the exact same time apple announces new iPods every year. Clear out the old inventory with back to school sales and have the new ones ready early for the holiday season.

And yes, they have to please their stockholders. Which is probably EXACTLY why they dumped the 160, it would be incredibly stupid to keep a model that isn't selling, and there's no way they would have dumped it if it was a big seller.

Despite the unrealistic expectations (as always) and the whining (as always), the big question is whether these will sell, and we'll see that soon enough. So to cut through the whining, is there really ANYONE who thinks these won't sell like crazy?

you're right. even i think about getting one or two 16 GB ipods for my GF and me. nice colors, 16GB, good screen (i hope), earphones with remote, even a product red one. i'm happy with those.

what sucks is that they do this media hype calling the media to show up because it's worth it and so on. this was just a standard event, nothing special. and that's why people are disappointed and the media angry to have wasted their time to go there.

i think the reference is to apple writing back to a reporter saying he/she shoudl be in the audience because this was going to be a "big deal"

that got the fanboi crowd all a tizzy, and apple didn't live up to the tizzy

Aren't forums great. You get yourselves all up in a lather about something you have absolutely no idea about and then express your huge disappointment when it fails to live up to the fictional expectations you've set upon it.

Of course they wanted the media to make a big thing of this - they're releasing updated iPods and they want every Tom, Dick and Harry to buy them.

Copy and paste/mms/etc/etc will not appear for a long time, if ever. Get used to it.

I think Apple is setting themselves up very well...the genius bar is doing multiple things, allowing people used to Pandora to prepare for Pandora's potentially imminent demise, as well as putting Apple TV owners in a great place with the HD quality video. I'm more likely to consider an aTV now (though I'm still holding out hope for DVR capability)

so were there updates to the classic??

did i just post this? man my memory is short. there were. sorry. boo me.

I think the update was 120GB from 80GB and losing the 160GB. Nothing else. Poor classic. It will be gone next year probably. I don't think the new 'shaking' feature is on it since the harddrive would be crying, "Don't shake -'skip'- me!":D

Wow- that takes a genius of design to come up with that. Maybe they are too "elegant" for the iPhone????

Hey...that sucks!

It is annoying cause my right earbud just stopped working today. I was really excited to get the V-Moda replacement, then saw the new earbud from Apple and was really excited. Then not only does it not come out till next month, but it also doesn't look like (according to Apple) it would even work with the iPhone (or iPod Touch 1st Gen).
