What!? Is 2.0 still not included with the new Touch?

According to Arstechnica's report, the Rev2 iPod Touches will come with 2.1 from the factory. Which makes sense, because they need to support new hardware - the new integrated remote/mic* headphones, and the integrated speakers.

The Rev1 iPod Touches will probably continue to wind their way through the supply chain with 1.1.5.

* Which means that legitamite Wi-Fi based VoIP apps (Jobs said previously they'd be permitted if they were Wi-Fi only) are just around the corner now.

They did? How? By emailing an invite to the press so they knew to come?

Are you sure you didn't do that whipping up yourself?

"We've heard a few more reports of Apple telling reporters that this event will be a "big deal" and urging them to come. While it's hard to read too much into this sort of hype, it does not appear to be typical practice for Apple."

I'm just going by this sites reporting, and I'd seen this elsewhere. I could really care less, I just noted that it was a-typical. So, either MacRumors took a credibility hit, their source did, or Apple did.

Personally, I've got my 3rd gen Nano and am happy. And while all of the stuff here is certainly interesting, especially NBC, it was a bit less than what it seemed it might be.

Anything else, or do you wanna ride my a$$ some more???

or just bluetooth that works as the rest of bluetooth devices do - syncing contacts wirelessly, working with bluetooth enabled car stereos, etc

Fully implemented bluetooth stack would allow other company to develop lots of new hardware products for the iphone. Apple probably doesn't want that as they want market control for these addons.

from Gizmodo's live blog:

The iPod Touch has software 2.1, which includes Nike+ and Genius playlists. First-gen iPod Touch owners get a free update from 2.0, but if you haven’t, it’s $9.95 to 2.1 from 1.x. Updates are available today.

I took that as the software 2.1 containing all the necessary materials for Nike+ to work, but perhaps not?

If the software has all you need, would it be with the iPhone update too, then?

The software interfaces with the receiver. You have to have a receiver. Currently it is external. The new ones will be built in.

"Big Deal"??? What was the "Big Deal" they were talking about?

Jack "F**king" Johnson??

They actually DOWNGRADED THE iPod Classic from 160GB to 120GB!!!!!!

The iPod Nano is kinda' cool, but the controller should also be accelerometerable.

iTunes 8 Genius is pretty lame. What if I want a playlist that incorporates different Genres. Like Beethoven, Guns N' Roses and Kanye West? Maybe iTunes 9 they will add a new feature called Idiot.

iPod Touch is still 32 GB. And woohoo!! A speaker!!! Should have been there years ago.

iPhone 2.1 not till Friday and never discussed it's features.

I'm never expecting anything shocking anymore from Apple. They are really, really disappointing lately. Maybe it IS time for Jobs to be replaced.

Just because it didnt have the laptops us geeks wanted doesnt mean it wasnt a big deal. These events are more for the investers of apple, and to them, new product is always a big deal.

I thought the iPod touches sold after the 2.0 update came with it?

This will be the last iPod Classic. Next year it'll be all-flash.

Downgrading from 160GB to 120GB is a poor show. At least give us 200GB :(

Also, the 'shake to shuffle' feature on the new Nano.. I hope it's toggle-able, otherwise running / jogging with that is just going to send your iPod in to a song-shuffle-frenzy.

I love Apple events, and I love the macrumors coverage of them, but every event it gets more annoying to see all of the bitching on the forums. Apple can't blow our socks off every event; it's not possible. And what is a 'big deal' to the press or the average joe obviously isn't a big deal to people willing to take the time to seek out a website designed to hype people up about rumored Apple announcements.

Everybody chill out, stop hating Apple and remember there are a lot more important things in the world. You'll get your MacBooks your MBPs and your Mac Minis; probably at MacWorld, too. Just calm down and realize Apple is doing what they think is the most profitable, therefore best for the company.

All in all, it was a decent event. Hopefully iTunes 8 is much much much better than 7.

These events are getting so pointless. Everyone knows what they're going to announce well in advance.

Everyone hopes for more, never gets it and thus ends up disappointed.

Can't wait for the next yawn-a-thon.

If it is such a big deal in the Business community... how come Apple stock is tanking on the event?

new product

New Product? Which event were you watching... nothing new at the one I saw.

Yes I do...Thats what makes it that much more puzzling. Apple just lost around 10% a share this week and M$ launches a new add. Apple is usually more agressive with their marketing. The MB hsa gone years with minimal upgades. They have changed the i-Pod touch twice within a year? Seriously...What does it take to figure priorities? 150 dollar i-pod or 1100-1400 dollar MB that has had minimal revisions for almost 2 years?...

well seeing as ipods are their iconic product......what do u think the PUBLOC (read: not us computer nerds suckling at the teat of any rumors we hear about new computers) is more interested in, a new ipod, or another laptop ??

They will come, hopefully shortly. Patience.

What are you talking about? What "new products"? They just upgraded the Nanos a bit and the iPod Touch a bit. THEY ACTUALLY DOWNGRADED THE iPOD CLASSIC FROM 160GB to 120GB. This is robbery.

Iam i the only one here who thought the event was good?

Not at all. I thought the event was pretty good as well. Remember, it was an iPod/iTunes event....not Macworld. Why would people expect new computers or a new non-iPod device at an event clearly geared toward iPod/Tunes?

I thought the updates were great. I see an iPod Nano in my near future.

There's not much to be disappointed about regarding this event.....

speculations really. Nothing more, nothing less. People may have expected something else, when in reality there was nothing but a rumor floating around. Some people got dissapointed and the stock took a hit. Wait until the product is available and talk about the stock;)
