limera1n - ALL 4.1 devices jailbroken!

Actually it's kind of nice to be able to reboot without having that "line of code" show up when you start up like jailbreakme.com does...

No luck for me.
Running Parallels, I go through the Limera1n process and it appears to work fully, gives me the completed succesfully window but I reboot and no Limera1n or Cydia...
iPhone 4 4.1

Lol :D
I rather see that line for a few seconds than deal with a rushed out buggy JB.
Lets see how many more problems people face with it as more and more use it.

Swizcor

I used to have the same issues using parallels to update my blackberry. I would disconnect the Bb and reconnect, while doing the install. Worked every time. It would recognize it and start the update back where it had left off.

I'm just going to wait a few days myself. I assume that the Chronic dev team's JB will use GH's exploit, so what I plan to do is just wait a few days after both releases are out, which should mean that the real show stopping bugs should be worked out.

In any case, I appreciate everyone's work in doing a JB, GeoHot, the Dev Team, the Chronic Dev Team, etc.

Compared to just popping root in Android, an iPhone JB takes a lot more. One has to get code executing, get out of the BSD jail, get the code executing as root, get the code to run at startup, and finally have a mechanism for installing the basic userland (cp, mv, rm, shell), as well as Cydia. This takes an extreme amount of precise work.

No you are wrong again, you don't keep apples apps settings either, After the update is finish iTunes restore those settings but right after update all your settings are gone (also your apps)

Unfortunately you are the one that is wrong. An upgrade on itunes is very different than a restore. A restore wipes the device, puts a new copy of the firmware and forces you to put back apps and data. An upgrade on itunes does not delete apps or data but simply upgrades the firmware. Most people that Jailbreak never use upgrade and seem to forget the function it performs.

Well said, it is buggy and was rushed out to beat Greenpoison by a day.
It doesnt even work with new bootrom 3GS iphones yet.
The Dev team and Chronic Devs are pissed.

P0sixninja: "wow, geohot steals our untethered exploit just so he can release first.... talk about #*****"

It's not really that sad when you realise the implications of what he did. Geohot saved the SHAtter exploit from being burned when there was a perfectly good, older exploit that will successfully jailbreak the phone. Now we have a viable alternative should we need it in the future (and will most likely work on newer devices if not used by then).

Was it rushed? Yes. Was it rushed for a good reason? Double yes.

K Limera1n doesn't even work on my iPod touch. When I press "make it ra1n" it stays on "waiting for device".

Totally confused about all these names and if this jailbreak is actually good and worth using?
Is greenp0ison still ment to be coming out tommorow

i have a "virgin" 3gs with new bootrom and it installed limerain and cydia without any issues for me, cydia made a shsh blob on 4.1 for me as well...

just praying for an unlock soon..

This is just not happening. I get to the final stages of the jailbreak, then when I boot it up, limera1n isn't there. Tried to restart, tried to rejailbreak countless times and limera1n isn't showing up...

EDIT: I'm just gonna wait until chronic dev team releases greenpois0n. Geohot fails me for both blackra1n before and limera1n now...

Was it rushed? Yes. Was it rushed for a good reason? Double yes.

Reading how things went down, "Double yes" is more like "Infinite no." Had the guy gone to one of the teams weeks ago when they said it wasn't going to work on all devices, everyone could have worked together.

Instead, he swoops in at the last minute to claim all the credit, and causes chaos as the team decides what to do with its planned release. His exploit is probably the one that should have been used at this point in time, but the way it went down proves that he's only in it for the attention. "Hey guys, I think we should use my exploit instead of pod2g's because it supports all devices and appears to be fixed in newer code." That's all he would have had to say... and it's not like he wouldn't have gotten the credit for the exploit. He just wouldn't have gotten sole credit, which is what he wanted.

The Hack fails..repeatedly.

I connected my ip4 with 4.1 to a window system that had limera1n. I did all the click and hold athletics and it said it was working and I even got the message that it was done! but... it wasn't. Cydia was not installed (yes, I rebooted) and I never saw the green teardrop during the install process. So...

I did a fresh install of 4.1 on my ip4 and re-did the process with the same results: held the power and home button down until instructed to release the power button, got all of the appropriate message but, again, no teardrop, no cydia before OR after a reboot. It just doesnt work for me. (Hell, I even followed the video on youtube walking you thru the process...to no avail).

Suggestions?

This is the part that isn't clear to me. Exactly when did it become public knowledge that Greenpois0n, as originally planned, only works on iPhone 4 and other 4th gen idevices? I know I only heard about it a day before geohot announced he was releasing limera1n. But then I don't follow all the jailbreaking chatter on Twitter. If geohot knew about it some time ago and didn't try to talk to the others, then I agree he's an ass. But does anyone know when he found out?

Is iTunes installed? Is it the latest version?

+1

The CDT never mentioned the fact, GP would be A4 devices only. I was saddened to hear it was only for A4 devices, hence I am glad geohot came to the rescue of 3gs owners like me.

Yes. and Yes....but here is a question...does it have to be my iphone's version of itunes or can it be someone else's? I am using my wife's pc in this secnario.

I'm gonna pass of this one, i appreciate the hard work thats gone into it but.... i have a stable jailbreak at the moment and i trust the Dev Team more than this guy.

Hmmm, iTunes is iTunes, shouldn't matter if it's on someone else's PC. Are you sure limera1n isn't on your iPhone? Sometimes the icon doesn't show up, and you get a white blob instead of the green raindrop icon.
