limera1n - ALL 4.1 devices jailbroken!

Hmmm, iTunes is iTunes, shouldn't matter if it's on someone else's PC. Are you sure limera1n isn't on your iPhone? Sometimes the icon doesn't show up, and you get a white blob instead of the green raindrop icon.

I just checked...i was a .1 release back on itunes....update and it worked. Thanks, Night Spring.!!!

Releasing Limera1n was a good thing.Since Limera1n can work on the 3GS and 2g iPod support is coming soon, that means this exploit could be expanded to every iDevice. If Shatter works for the next gen iDevices, and its still PWNED 4 LIFE, that means we could have a PWNED 4 LIFE on every idevice up to 5th generation. I think releasing Limera1n was for the better.

LimeRa!n

For someone who could not make it work in windows. Make sure you have the correct admin rights, or u can just right click "Run As Administrator" on the icon to run it. It worked for me.

It failed before i did that.

I connected my ip4 with 4.1 to a window system that had limera1n. I did all the click and hold athletics and it said it was working and I even got the message that it was done! but... it wasn't. Cydia was not installed (yes, I rebooted) and I never saw the green teardrop during the install process. So...

I did a fresh install of 4.1 on my ip4 and re-did the process with the same results: held the power and home button down until instructed to release the power button, got all of the appropriate message but, again, no teardrop, no cydia before OR after a reboot. It just doesnt work for me. (Hell, I even followed the video on youtube walking you thru the process...to no avail).

Suggestions?

Same problem here. Latest version of iTunes running in VMWare Fusion. Perhaps Fusion is the issue?

limera1n worked on my 4.0.2 iphone 4. I installed ultrasn0w as well...
I cut my t-mobile sim to micro size, but when I insert it I still get the 'No SIM card' error. Is this because I didn't cut the SIM properly? Any tips?

Btw, I verified that the SIM is still functional by plugging it into my 3gs with an adapter.

Thanks!

For those with the "waiting for device message" you must install iTunes first (this will install the proper drivers for your device).

So for Mac users running parallels or bootcamp.

1. Download iTunes
2. Install iTunes
3. Connect your device (tested it on iPad).
4. Open Limera and follow instructions

how does geohot's limera1n beta fixes get onto our jailbroken iphone if we got it before he fixed the betas ?? do we have to rejailbreak the phone again to pick up the beta fixes?

I'm going to wait a few days before doing this. It seems 4 beta versions have been released over night, who knows how many more will need to be done before it's finally considered stable.

@mike you will need to re run the jailbreak each time there is a new beta out.

reset network and see, it should work afterwards.

re-run it, not have to download the .exe again off his site right? or do we have to re-download his .exe jailbreak everytime a new beta is released?

No bugs apparent yet but early doors. Snaptap, iRealSMS and Fake Carrier installed and working. Good enough for day 1.

I think what he's asking is if you have to restore to stock iOS before jailbreaking again each time.

If he is asking that then no you don't need to. you can just run the newest limera1n beta on top of the old one.

I'd wait if I were you though theres likely to be many more betas.

Reading how things went down, "Double yes" is more like "Infinite no." Had the guy gone to one of the teams weeks ago when they said it wasn't going to work on all devices, everyone could have worked together.

Instead, he swoops in at the last minute to claim all the credit, and causes chaos as the team decides what to do with its planned release. His exploit is probably the one that should have been used at this point in time, but the way it went down proves that he's only in it for the attention. "Hey guys, I think we should use my exploit instead of pod2g's because it supports all devices and appears to be fixed in newer code." That's all he would have had to say... and it's not like he wouldn't have gotten the credit for the exploit. He just wouldn't have gotten sole credit, which is what he wanted.

How does the exploit appear to be fixed in newer code if it exploits the bootrom? Or are you referring to the untethered aspect of it?

Installed on a New Bootrom 3GS. un-tethered and working great.

I haven't seen ANY bugs. This is better than JailbreakMe.

+1
The CDT never mentioned the fact, GP would be A4 devices only. I was saddened to hear it was only for A4 devices, hence I am glad geohot came to the rescue of 3gs owners like me.

Yeah, all the talk about the shatter exploit being for A4 devices (iPhone 4, etc) - and all those other jailbreaks work best with older devices (3G, old bootrom 3GS), I was beginning to get real sad that I was stuck with an "unsupported" New Bootrom 3GS.

limera1n has been great. geohot said it was for "ALL" devices, and then limera1n.com gets updated with support for "New Bootrom" 3GS phones.

I downloaded limera1n, ran it, and my 3GS was jailbroken with 4.1 in no time (literally less than 1 minute). I quickly got all my favorite apps (SBSettings, five icon dock/task switcher, NoSpot, etc), enabled tethering again, and started emailing my friends with links to limera1n.com.

One friend I have just got a new iPhone a few weeks back - and it came with 4.0.2 on it, so he's been waiting for a jailbreak.

I really don't care if geohot 1-upped some A4-only jailbreak. I mean, as soon as I get an A4 device, then I may care if I find out he caused Apple to patch something they wouldn't have if he didn't release his jailbreak.

geohot credited comex on the limera1n page. There is so much drama in the jailbreak world...

No, you tolerate it because not tolerating it is a waste of time and energy. Take the good and leave the bad or cry like a jealous little baby and still use his work/or not. Which would be the more mature choice because those are the only ones you have.

This is not what you said before. Make your mind up.

Sorry if this has already been covered but has anyone experienced the same as Engadget has when using limera1n on a 3GS?.

we personally got it working quickly on a pair of iPhones with iOS 4.1... but one of the two was missing icons upon restart and didn't regain App Store, Maps, Game Center and Calendar even after a restore. Be careful, now!

Is it worth waiting a few days for another beta release of Limera1n?

I'm not new to all things iPhone but i am new to jailbreaking, realisitcally i should have jailbroke with jailbreakme.com a few months ago, but i'm on 4.1 now.

Just over on Multi-Touch Fans forum and there's a lot of success stories regarding LimeRa1n ... there was some concern that the untethered jailbreak being used wasn't stable, but Comex seems to have given it his backing in the latest beta.

Now, where's the Mac version? I'm not Boot Camping my iMac if it's a matter of days away.
