As I understand it, limera1n works for old iDevices whereas greenpois0n only works for new ones. That being as it is, I'm glad limera1n is getting a release. Leaving old devices behind is what so many customers, jailbreakers or otherwise, hate Apple for.

Plus, since it's been released early, the dev team need not release GP now, they can instead save SHAtter.

So... Everyone should be happy.

Just jailbroke with Limera1n, east as cake but how do I delete the Limera1n app after the install? Opening the app shows "Uninstall Limera1n" but selecting it only shows you a description stating "Uninstalling will not remove the jailbreak. It will remove this installation app."

How do you actually select/activate the uninstallation?

According to Twitter:

I think @chronicdevteam is changing greenpoison to use the limerain exploit, so we won't waste anything but it might be delayed

by @comex

So no harm done, I suppose.

Talk about failing at life. Did you

A. Think about what the application does?
B. Actually read the warning?

Clearly you didn't do any of the above.

Jeez and crackers man ...... lighten up. Of course I didn't do any of the above because NAV automatically deleted the file when I downloaded it. Maybe the file/site got hacked.

@p0sixninja: we have 3 options, A) Not release greenpois0n, B) Burn a second bootrom expoit, or C) Break our ETA and implement geo's exploit
Can someone explain what the difference is/will be between limera1n and greenpois0n if they decide to use his exploit? What's the advantage of using one over the other?

Maybe you should disable that internet babysitter when downloading these types of files. Clearly this isn't a virus and norton is reporting a false positive.

Any news on o1lrain for the new nano or am I missing something here?!

This guys such a dick. Why does he show up at the very last minute and release a tethered jb? As chpwn said, now 2 bootrom exploits will be exposed within the space of a week.
I can't stand egohot.

What do you care as long as he does something for everyone that you CANT do? Dont bag on those who do something that you like and want. Only a "dick" would complain about getting a free jailbreak.

I dont have a 3GS myself..but once limera1n is used to jailbreak...would it be possible to use fuzzyband to downgrade from 5.14.02 to 5.13.03? and them maybe get it unlocked?

I guess its logical but im guessing it wouldnt work right?

so it seems those of us with a jailbroken 4.0.1 would have to upgrade to 4.1 (losing our JB) and then re-jailbreak.

Any chance greenpois0n would prevent us from losing the JB (and all the customizations) we already have???

It's such a pain to remember all the apps / settings you have from Cydia.

That is the way it have always been, you lose your JB with an upgrade until you re JB again. Greenpois0n will do the same thing.

don't they sometimes allow you to create custom ispw files or something where the jailbreak is built into the upgrade...and you keep everything you already had?

Can't you still use aptbackup or appbackup for reinstalling or are they not 4.1 friendly?

Custom ipsw is an already Jailbroken firmware (with Cydia pre-install and others packages) but it doesn't have your packages or your configuration

just seems odd since when you upgrade firmwares, you keep all the apple apps and settings you have. You'd think with a custom ipsw it could do the same for jailbroken apps / settings.

Isnt that what a backup does? When it asks you to set up as a new phone or from previous backup?

No you are wrong again, you don't keep apples apps settings either, After the update is finish iTunes restore those settings but right after update all your settings are gone (also your apps)

Just so we are clear, fuzzyband is only for the 3G iphone. And only for those who bought it within a week or so of release as it had the 5.08 bootloader on it. No exploit for the 5.09 which is the majority of the 3G iphones out there.

I guess I was wrong about geohot not releasing his exploit. His is much better, it was stupid of the Chronic Dev Team to release an exploit only for A4 devices. They can be angry all they want, but they should have been working on something worth releasing.

You understand wrong. limera1n works on iPhone 3GS, iPod Touch 3G, iPad, iPhone 4, iPod Touch 4G, 4.0-4.1 and beyond+++

agh that makes sense. thanks for clarifying.

ah ok, thanks for clearing that.
so i guess unlocking 3gs isnt an option yet?
