No, that was a metaphorical statement.

I'll actually be doing things like spending time with my girlfriend (he wouldn't know what that's like, probably), working to earn money and being a useful member of society rather than hanging around outside an Apple store for 4 days so I can say I'm one of the first to buy an over-hyped product.

Hello everyone! It's nice to see MacRumors posted a article about another one my famous camp outs. I'm currently on my Spring Break this week so thats the reason why I'm here early. I would expect more arriving here in the next few days.

With the iPad 2 going on sale simultaneously in many different retail outlets, I highly doubt there will be any fellow campers.

You know, more power to the guy if he loves Apple and chooses to do this kind of crazy thing. It's just a bit sad that he seems to be really craving attention and celebrity status of any kind.

Call me crazy... but it's just a freakin iPad. No way I'd wait 4 days in line..

See, this is the kind of post I don't get. Why the anger? how is this hurting you? Why not live and let live?

Lets see, its a new design (thinner and lighter), has two new cameras, more memory, dual-core processor, etc. I am pretty sure its a 2.0 update. Also, everyone out there dreaming Apple is going to release another one is fall, may want to wake up soon because it's not going to happend...

Thinner and lighter. Wow. It's so fat and heavy now!!!
Cameras. AWESOME! I don't video chat - I see people "for real".
Dual core? Yeah, helps me reading books and doing email.
More memory? Cool! Where's my 128 or 256GB version??? Oh, not THAT memory. I see.

My point is, the changes don't warrant calling it 2.0. The iOS 5.0 version with 256Gb of user storage capacity would meet that requirement.

someone willing to pay that apple store manager $1000 dollars to cut in front on Friday morning?

I don't understand all the hate for this guy. He is doing something he enjoys, that makes him happy, and it is not harming anyone. It's not something I would do but if he enjoys it more power to him.

Given that this guy can afford to chill in his tent for an entire work week, I assume that his situation from last year hasn't changed, i.e, seizure disorder that has him on disability.

So, why is this anyone's business but his. Well, because we are all paying for his disability check, especially those in Texas who get to pay both the fed and state parts.

It says in his post he is on spring break, so apparently he's going to school or working in education.

14 Positive
200 Negative

But yea 4 days is certainly a long time to wait

You should see the last thread we had on this guy. A true multi-page flame fest of epic proportions. There was a hint in the summary that the guy was on disability and thus it spawned a whole discussion about taxes paying for his week in the sun outside of the Apple store.

Looks like we are in for a thrilling repeat of last year. Proceed with the epic flame-fest, everyone, and try not to burst a blood vessel.

Before I start getting flamed...just remember...this week the jackasses in Washington are going to be cutting all sorts of things "cause we have to." Things like gas subsidies for the poor in cold climates and pell grants. We may have to do those kinds of things...but I think we should be taking iPhones and iPads away for iJustins first.

maybe that's just me...
.
I'll defend him on economic grounds. iJustins' camping to buy an iPad 2 is a boost to the lagging economy.

Front Page?

Arn (& friends),
I've been fully enjoying your offerings since 2001. But it's front page articles like this that can really cheapen all the hard work you, your team & the community put into MacRumors.

If (and that's an easily debatable "if") this kind of article needs to be on this site, at the very least put the Page 2 tab to good use. Currently, every article on Page 2's main page carries far more significance to the community than this front page story (hence the "easily debatable 'if'").

C'mon... we're all better than this.

I have better things to do than camp outside an Apple store just to get my hands on the latest tech on launch day. Rather stay in bed with my girlfriend than sleeping 'rough' outside. Simply wait for things to die down a bit and then pick one up at my own leisure :)

Maybe, I'm mean. But I think I'd call the cops.

9-1-1. Please state your emergency.

There's some crazy looking dude in a hoody sitting outside the store.

What's the problem.

He's been there 4 days.

O-K. So what's the problem? This is an emergency line. Prank phone calling 9-1-1 is a crime.

He's sitting outside a Mac store in a tent with a Dell Laptop running Zune. You know that mo-fo up to no good.

:eek:I'll dispatch SWAT.

They reduced the size and significantly upgraded the internals. What else do you expect them to change on a freaking flat slate of a computer? Add racing stripes?

*wince*

These guys are a little cringe-inducing, even among the faithful. IMHO, of course.

You're only saying what a lot of us are thinking!

But is it really the "Justin's of the Apple world" or the 'publications' that promote him in their stories that produce that "cringe-inducing" feeling? I mean did Justin camp out a week early to be first in line for when the store opens on iPad 2 day or did he do it in hopes that he would be written up by a blog or some other Apple news media format.

Heck, I'm guilty of it by traveling to see Apple's first east coast store in Virginia on its Grand Opening day way back when, but thats it. No other Apple product, with the exception of an appearance of Steve Jobs at my, now local, Apple store will get me to "camp out" but not to be there on day one of a second generation or later device, though. Heck even a first generation device. I know it's an "Apple Experience" to participate in such things, but I'll get it when the hoopla dies down.

But Justin is first in line... again... If that is his thing, the more power to him. All the best as he enjoy his new iPad 2.

This. I know some people use FaceTime on their iPhone 4's, but after using it 2-3 times the novelty wore thin. I love tech, don't get me wrong, but we're fast becoming a world of socially inept device reliant "human beings". A friend of mine who has worked in H.R. for years has seen a general tremendous decline in "people skills". Looking around at times, it's sadly humorous to see people at the same table in a restaurant barely speak as they're too busy texting. As a T.A. I've even received papers from students with "text shorthand". (I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but eh, whatev :) )

it's good for traffic / post counts ... which is how the ranking/size of BBS/forums is determined.

it's a business move by MR, pure and simple.
