when does the 14 day return start when ordering online? when you get it or when your order it?

Thats a good question, I'd like to know the answer as well. Because if I give in and buy the current MBP before school starts, I wanna know how long I have to return it if the Montevina comes out!

Not a bad idea to see if you can return it, but make sure they don't have a restocking fee. You don't want to pay more to have them switch it out...

Apple generally releases products on Tuesdays.

That said, there's 24 (or so) Tuesdays left this year.

On one hand, Apple's still reeling from the iPhone activation mess, and won't want to overload the stores and/or call centers. I'd be stunned if we get them tomorrow.

On the other hand, they may want to spread out their revenue for the analysts, which would make an early October release the next target.

On the gripping hand, Apple may want to clear out potential fallout from the Nvidia mess (assuming that the new MBP's don't use the faulty chip), and do something yet this month.

Best guess: Speed bump etc from new platform (100%), minor case revision (50%), maybe a new GPU (50%) and screen (25%), maybe a 320GB 7200 BTO option (25%), maybe eSata (15%), NO blue-ray (0%). Release in late July (20%), August (50%), September (20%), October (5%).
And a 5% chance we don't see anything until MacWorld 2009.

Hey btw is there a chance that Apple would go with ATI instead of Nvidia for the Montevina update because of the whole GPU fiasco? I got a dell xps here atm and have been happy with my ATI (though I've never tried Nvidia). Just wondering... :p

Maybe if the HD 4650 appears.

Where on Earth do you get your statistics?

I dont see anything about the monteniva chipset being released, it should be released now or?

Anyone in the market for an MBP is gonna be waiting for Montevina, only the MacBooks can be selling that well right now, even with the deal.

I think people forget that the average American consumer is not the same as the type of person on these websites. Most Americans still buy electronics at Circuit City and Best Buy. In other words, they don't do extensive research before they buy a product. When they need a new computer, they buy one. I think there will be a minor update in July/August with montevia, and a complete redisign at macworld with Nahalem(even though it pains me to say that). I am curious how people think the time line has changed now that the supposedly new case design has come out...Think that means a new design will come sooner, or later than predicted?

According to InformationWeek, click here for article, it will be announced this afternoon (PDT).

And Yahoo says (click here), "Virtually every computer maker will have upgraded models for sale come tomorrow... and big discounts on older machines that are still lingering in the channel."

Where's the MBP identifier been then? Don't they release one every time the mbp gets an update? :(

Somewhere between my gut and thin air :)

Seriously, the only thing that I'm sure of is no blue-ray (power consumption is too high). The rest are based on all the thread here, analyst reports, rumors, and my experience in product sales and marketing at a large IT company.

Did you guys see the email ad apple sent out today? Just a coincedence that it happened the same day as Montevina.

Well anyways, it was titled "A Mac and a free ipod touch. College Bound".

Take it for what its worth, but I first read it as meaning that they were trying to take away some of the focus on Montevina because they aren't releasing an update soon (as in July soon).

I really hope Apple will release new MBPs tommorow, i'm on holiday in Spain, but i'm on the PC all the time waiting for the update! Hope it will come tommorow!

Ps. First post! Even though i've spent the last month reading everything i could about the MPB update on this forum:p

Do you only check your email every 6 weeks? :D

^ What he said.

So I am waiting for the Montevina MBPs. I wasn't really in a rush, as I had a PBG4 I could use at college before it is released, but the Powerbook's GPU died (I think) and now I need an update soon! I'm a little weary about getting the current ones with nVidia GPUs... hope next ones have ATI...
