My guess is that Apple has been a little too busy with other things over the last two weeks to prepare another major product announcement immediately. But a couple of questions:

1. Does Apple announce new computers without scheduling a press event?
2. Would release of new systems require an OS update, i.e., 10.5.5?

zomg what's up with AppleInsider webpage? It's down (for me at least). Maybe they know some insider MBP details.. or maybe their site's just down

1. Yes, the macbook just appeared on the page, no press event, nothing.
2. Nope, no update needed. What normally happens is that the drivers are already there, say id a new mbp is coming and drivers are needed, they're in 10.5.4 already.

New SONY Vaio with the new chips which debuted on their website yesterday. Penned for August release date.

Look good. Have a play around with the CTO options and you get a good TOTR system for about $2500.

Has Blu-ray RW too.

Shame it runs Vista though.

Can we expect the same from Apple? I hope so. I would hate to get another windows based laptop. :D

Not bad, good price with a lot of good stuff. No windows for me though!:apple:

me thinks

Me thinks that apple doesn't want to be an also-ran in the centrino 2 announcements which were ALL the rage today.

As well, from a company standpoint they are still warm with iphone 3G and app store announcments they want that to sit and percolate for a while longer.

I think we'll get something by EOM, not later than first week of August.

seeing as other laptop companies are starting to issue their Montevina versions, i would have to say around end of July would bee a good target date

Edgar Allen Poe's "The Cost Of Montevina"

OK, so this may have been hypothesized in the 1.3 trillion replies to this post, but what's the best guess on the cost of the new Montevina platform MBP, and have there been any rumors out there about the HD's getting beefed up?

I'm guessing $2,999 for a 15.4" MBP Glossy 3.06 GHz / 4Gb / 500 Gb / ...and I have no ide what they'll do with the graphics fiasco. I'd like mine as an Etch-N-Sketch, please... When SL locks up, just shake it!:D

uuuuh I want one of those , We'll call it the Macbook Shake.

when you buy a mbp, do they give you a graphics card driver install disk that works with windows? because i want to be able to play games on windows

No, but those drivers should be included with bootcamp, in the driver disc you burn.

Sure, about a year after everybody else has it. Have you used Vista ?

"No, but yes." lol - Bootcamp Beta needed a driver disc, but Leopard comes with all the Bootcamp drivers on the OSX install DVD now.

Someone (me) is obviously outdated. Shows how much I use Bootcamp.:)

And after installing Windows XP with Bootcamp, when you do an Apple Software Update from Windows, it looks like it replaces most (or all) of the Bootcamp drivers with newer versions.

so i have a little dilema. While we're on the subject of bootcamp I thought I'd ask this. I want to install Windows Xp in the new Mbp when I get it. I have a copy of Windows XP, BUT its Service pack 1 and i know bootcamp calls for service pack 1. Any ideas? Thanks

it seems that a lot of companies are starting to take little bits of apple computers and putting them into their own. like the viao's keyboard, whats up with that?

Dell still has yet to update their processor line, i laughed a friend who did absolutely no research before buying his dell xps, on the day of the new processor's release.

i really hope apple adds something to these new notebooks, besides the detachable battery/HDD, that no one has ever seen before.

Haha I remember the official "list" for those waiting for the Penryn Macbook Pro updates... I was on the list! I love my Penryn. I won't be upgrading to the montevina though, because... it's still a penryn!

I'm really excited about the nehalem technology intel has cooking up, though, and I can't wait to upgrade in a year or 15 months or so when they are on rev 2 or so of the nehalem tech. That will be one sweet computer.

Hi all (my 2nd post so far).

Does Apple roll out updates worldwide on the same day? Or do we Brits have to wait a little longer than USA?
