if apple doesn't release some news soon, i reckon im going to fail my exams from checking these damn forums every 5 minutes!

So the OSX tax is up to $1K ? Cool.

I've always looked at it more as "so the XP/Vista subsidy is $1K?". Thanks but no thanks. You know what you get with a Windows laptop that you don't get with a MBP? 8 different stickers beside the trackpad. 4 different media players. 2 competing wifi managers. 2 different antivirus applications. 12 various garbage applications and icons installed on the desktop. Restore discs, but no OS install discs. A strong desire to reformat the drive before using the pc for the first time. You can call that a $1k tax, I call it peace of mind.

I have been spending my Saturday night doing a little bit of research... (all my friends are on vacation... shut up) But anyway, i came up with a series of pictures and articles that i know all you avid readers are aching to see, or at least i am, because I'm one of those art fags who likes to look at the pretty pictures.

Not a Macbook Pro, but possible competitor to it within the next few years.

hey, i was just a little confused about something. im in canada and am looking into getting a regular Macbook for university. our school year starts the first week of september so i guess we are a little lucky in case an update does come up around that time. what i was wondering was will the new Montevina platform would also be available on the regular Macbooks? in general i want to know if the regular macbooks are going to be updated along with the MBPs? thanks in advance for any help.

Nobody knows for sure until Apple announces it. I would expect that Macbooks will be updated, although it's possible they will not be. It's also possible that MBPs will see an update first and Macbooks at a later date.

No Blu-ray, 250 GB HDD standard, 2.4GHz standard, and a GPU that isn't a year old. Like a 9650M GS.

But yeah, that's probably what it'll be... although the first picture rocks several different houses. Heck, it rocks an entire small town.

They've never been updated together, so that's your best bet.

I am having a good feeling about this coming week that there will be a update, though were I too put money down the 29th is the date I am really waiting for ;)

Okay, but if the 29th swings around and there's no joy, I'm going to be really disappointed and kick you in the crotch for getting my hopes up.

Hrmmm... I'm going to the states on Aug 15th, so hopefully I can have a new MacBook Pro and iPod Touch before then.

'Mazing, haven't seen these on the MacRumors nor Apple Insider. Thanks. =)

thoughts...

I like the current macbook pro keyboard.... not the air's. The air's is good for paper thin size, but the other keyboard (silver and rounded soft keys) is better for comfort and looks better in my opinion. And in regards to blueray, it would be nice if Apple decided to incorporate the winner of the format player wars, but they could be going with their current downloadable HD content through iTunes rentals, so it's hard to tell what they will do in that area. I don't care if black is added or not because they resembles the MacBook and if you are going to pay a hefty amount more for the Pro, why not have it look different? Plus, I think that the silver looks more prestigious and ritzy. Maybe if they color schemed a MBP to look kind of like the new iMac (black and silver instead of just black) then I would get that . In the gpu area, they will have to definitely do something to 1. compete with Gateway since they are now including 8800's in their FX line of notebooks and 2. to support HD video well, which is kind of what they are doing now. I honestly didn't think that Apple would do a refresh of their notebooks until the release of the Snow Leopard operating-system, but maybe that will be an additional upgrade...

Ram doesn't cost more in a thinner computer, nor does the cpu or harddrive, airport cards and bluetooth cards are already thin and small, gpu is fairly standard also. So mostly apple charging a premium for the thin design.

I can guarentee you RAM CPU and HDD don't cost more in a thin notebook and that is a lot of the cost.
So a 9.5 mm HD doesn't cost more than a 12 mm HD with an equivalent capacity?

Captain :rolleyes:bvi:rolleyes:us

Yeah, keyboard looks bad, I expected a higher graphics card too.
