ICK. Disgusting. Let's keep the MBA and MBP as far away as possible if that is the end result. It's like the worst of both worlds.

Why deviate from the formula? The MBP, magnetic latch and user accessible HD bay aside, needs nothing changed on the exterior. Perhaps a larger trackpad, and I can give or take chiclet keys provided they're in-keeping with current colour scheme (ie not MBA-black). Here's some I made earlier...

Innards... 2.5 and 2.8GHz procs, 250GB and 320GB standard HD space, new GPUs, 1680x1050 standard across the range, with 128GB SSD option on the 2.8s. Weight drop would be good too. And we're set.

For MBA, I'm thinking 2 USBs (or 1xUSB, 1xFW) plus a thinner bezel, resulting in an overall smaller size.

Hopefully in addition to a proc bump better comparable to current MBs, also offering 160GB HDD/128GB SSD and 2 or 4GB RAM options. Swappable battery would be awesome, if not... an extra real world hour or two of juice would be nice.

So the only reason you would not buy a MacBook Pro is because of the keyboard. What if it has new features that you have been waiting for for years, I think you would purchase it no matter what.

to be honest its not even so much the keyboard, tis the damned rounded edges that make it look like a toy

I

AHHH!! FINALLY SOMEONE WITH AN EXCELLENT MOCKUP! THAT IS PERFECT! YOU HIT IT SPOT ON! If you want an air design, buy the air. The MBP look is legendary. It just needs some touch ups as JNC did here. Great job! :)

although there is one other thing you forgot on it. THe plastic edging has got to go!

Those are great 2006-7 prices and about 30% more than a similarly speced, Sony, HP or Toshiba will cost. The OSX tax is beggining to resemble a confiscation. Don't think that will work in this economy.

OMGosh the first picture looks disastrous and ugly, and sickening...

I don't think Apple would **** out the 15.4's with only a low resolution option or a worse cpu clock speed than the 17's. there will also probably be at least 7200 rpm hdd's and an option for ssd. they usually keep the specs relitivly similar other than the actual size of the laptop's screen.
What? What? That's exactly what they do now!

January 2006: Component upgrade (Intel)
October 2006: Big spec bump (RAM, HD bump)
June 2007: Component upgrade (Santa Rosa, LED)
November 2007: Does this one even count?
February 2008: Big spec bump (HD, VRAM)
Q3 2008: Component upgrade (redesign, Montevina)?

That's why I went conservative on the specs.

so i never realized how dated the current mbp design really is until yesterday when i was at a friends house who had a powerbook g4. since I'm moderately new to the the whole mac thing, i couldn't figure out why his "mbp" didn't have a camera on top, till i read the name Powerbook g4.

Uh, I may be nuts, but I'm pretty sure that most of us are in agreement that Nehalem MBP's probably won't be out until Summer 2009 at the earliest.

We'll be waiting at least 12 months for nehalem for the mobile platform.

As for montevina, I'm picking the sixth as the release date.

:apple:

I can't wait for the new Macbook Pro. Whenever it comes out, I'm buying it. I need a laptop.

So are we going to have this new macbook pro on the 5th of august 2008? BTW does anyone know if the are going to replace NVIDIA 86 with something else?

And I hoped that they'll stop using NVIDIA after the last f*ck up. :( Well may be they learned the lesson and the new video cards won't have that weird problem.

just a little tip, we will know if the new macbook pros will come soon as long as apple takes down the ad for the new 2.6 macbook pro on their website.

I mean this article. I understand that it is not official but after reading all this numerous problems with macbook pros' (and other laptops') displays this article seems like the last piece of puzzle. :) May be I am too paranoiac but after it I decided to wait for the new mac book pro release. :)
It looks like the problems are with the 8700M GT and below, and that the 9000 series are exempt from this problems.

Wrong. They wont take it down, it will just be changed to show the newer MBP. Only the store site changes from "new" to regular. The MBP site only changes when a new MBP is out.
