anyone else besides me worried they may sell out of MBPs at the apple store the first day. If they release it this tuesday I won't be able to make it to the apple store until like 7 due to work. I hope they won't be out by then. What does everyone think?

I know not as many people will be buying a $2000 MBP as a $200 iphone, but still I'm worried. :(

For the people who bought their MBPs the first day their model was released, how long did it take to get it delivered? I just want to know how long I should anticipate because I'm sure the demand for them will be high.

I went into the store and bought it. Took 15 minutes. I suggest you do that, but if you dont live near one thats obviously not a choice. I dont know about shipping, sorry.

Yeah, no Apple store where I live. I also want the student pricing and free iPod so i'd have to do one online. I would like to have one before the 15th, so the 5th might be my limit.

you're right, its not an iphone, there is like no marketing for it, not many people in your town are going to run right out and buy one, infact, not many people other than the people on this board who are posting in this thread will prolly even realize it will be out..i think you will be safe

i'd be more worried about if your :apple:store will even HAVE the new models

I'm flying back 'home' thursday to MA and I really want to buy the new mbp during my stay there. I'll go right away when its released and not worry about them running out of stock. Like has been said, most people don't check macrumors every day.

Ah we're in the same boat...I'll be back in MA around the 17th...they better release it by then...and the Nordstrom/Natick store better have it.

I agree, those speaker grills are really ugly. If they change that and the keyboard I am so getting a MBP :)

Yeah they're not particularly attractive, and the holes are just a little too big. There should have been more of them, but smaller.

I was planning on waiting for Nehalem to come out but that won't be until mid to late 2009 it seems. I'm actually happy Nehalem isn't coming out for a while, makes my decision to get the next MBP so much easier. All signs seem to be pointing to a major overhaul. Can't wait!

Yea, I dont agree with you on that. The speaker grills are necessary and are better than just more empty space...something the 17" has too much of.

So is everyone betting for August 5th?, how many days after an announcement can we expect to buy online?

I can hold out till September 27th, would be nice to have it during time off :D

reason or evidence. some citations will be nice.

Well, I don't have anything in writing, but trust me on this one. :)

Of course, I said I have reason to believe that it is going to be a refresh. I'm waiting on a new design myself, so I'd love to proven wrong.

I have reason to believe he's right. I don't give a crap about redesigning it. Neither does Apple. The fact that they've kept it for six years tells me this.

I'm glad to see that someone shares my rationale here. Although I'm still basing this off some reliable information.

;)

sammy2066, tallest skil, i completely agree and ive been saying it for months,
APPLE IS NOT REDESIGNING UNTIL NEHALEM

i have NO proof it just makes sense

WHY?

Larger CPU (onboard memory controller), smaller logic board (see larger CPU), different heat requirements, a perfect time to redesign the line

someone tell me im not right

Larger CPU (onboard memory controller) How would that affect the case?, smaller logic board (see larger CPU) Montevina's chipset is 40% smaller than Santa Rosa's, different heat requirements TDPs are the same (or similar) from Montevina to Nehalem. Montevina is the first to deliver the option of a 25 W CPU, a perfect time to redesign the line

AppleInsider has been saying a Montevina redesign. Also don't forget the leaked MacBook Pro case pictures.

I have a feeling that Montevina » Nehalem will be like Yonah » Merom. Those who are expecting it to be this enormous change may be disappointed.

I have reason to believe that the next MBP update will be a refresh. Quote me on this. No major design changes.

I love the speaker grills, but I wouldn't mind if they put a num pad on the 17" model.

I think the reason why Apple's not doing that is so that the trackpad can be at the center of the laptop, and not to the left side as it would be if a numeric keypad was included in the keyboard.
