List: Waiting for Montevina MacBook Pros

Ugh! I just want my MBP!

I am not so worried about waiting for the slightly faster processor, it would only probably make a slight difference for my needs, but I am worried that the new ones will be released at a lower price like the rumors suggest.

Although I am so sick of waiting, and I cannot wait until September because I need it for when I start school.

i might crack tomorrow and get it. I've waited for 6 months. But I'm tired of it controlling my life and I don't want to get it in september because until then it'll be a huge distraction for college! RRRR APPPPPLLLEEEE! I love and hate :apple: at the same time!

I'm with you.

But I kinda feel like I got kicked in the gut. Waiting for Montevina only for rumors saying they aren't going to use it at all and its coming out in September. I've been waiting for a while too.

the beauty of a rumor is that sometimes they arent always true
 
There's no way that apple is going to release a new MBP before september 15. As that is the date that their "buy a mac for college and get a free ipod" promo ends. Clearly they are using this promo to capture a larger share of the back to school market id est dump the old stuff.

The new notebooks will be released sometime after sept 15, just in time for the kickoff of Christmas shopping.

Think about it the free ipod promo is simply a way of preempting whiners (they learned from the first iphone price drop whiners. they whined so much apple issued rebates). This way Steve can say, "shut up I gave you an ipod".

They've released new models during the promo period in the past; they released the Merom Macbook Pros last year during the promotion. The promo is mainly to get rid of ipod stock before they introduce new ipod models.
 
I'm not really ready for an update yet but I hope they announce them today because I'm about to upgrade the HD in my MBP and I'd rather wait if they really did change the back for easier HD access.

Apple has bigger fish to fry than worrying about a few discounted MacBooks. The new models will come out whenever.
 
i mentioned before, but did anyone notice how best buy's stock of all mbp models is low to non existent in retail stores? if not tomorrow, then in the next 2 weeks at most imo

you are totally off except for the part of them wanting to clear out old ipods.
 
Most students entering college already bought laptops by now. There's no reason for them to wait any longer. At this point they should push it out when its ready.
 
Based on what Tex-Twill just posted, i guess what we are waiting for arent montevina computers. can someone clarify all this? is this going to be superior or inferior to montevina?
 
Ok I'm upset. Not because Apple's not going montevina...I'm sure they have their reasons and they're not the type of people who would cut (that much of) performance for profit or whatnot.

But if they're not out by August 17 and test driven (I'm not particularly experienced with different brands of motherboards than Intel...compatibility issues?), I'm eyeing the Sony Vaio SR line. Ati 3450 ain't that exciting, but it beats my ex-laptop's old Ati X600, and I guess more incentive to study. There were QC problems with Sony computers a long while back, any Sony users want to give me some insight?

What are all you other college students thinking?

My thinking exactly - i love the new SR line and it has pretty much everything I want. If :apple: decides not to update their macbooks, i think this is my next best choice.
 
Not to be a traitor, but I had a Sony Vaio CR just before my MBP and I loved it. Never a problem, pretty sexy design, and good customer service. I actually never had a problem with Vista on it, either. The one complaint I had was pre-installed bloatware on the computer, which I took care of day one.

I was thinking about selling my current MBP to get in on the Montevina refresh and maybe score a free ipod touch while I'm at it (and if Apple drops the price on its laptop line as rumored, so much the better). I'm just hesitating because I'm afraid the dates won't coincide.

If I sell before the announcement, I make more money (got someone interested at $1700). But who knows how long it could be, and I hate being laptop-less. I wish I wasn't so anal retentive about having current electronics.. :cool:
