I don't understand apple at all. Why do they make such a huge secret of the release date? This is gonna be a common update (not a brand new product) so why not tell everyone the date

Incorrect. This is going to be a substantial overhaul.

Business strategy. People don't know, they won't wait for it, they'll buy whatever is available at the time. If people know, most might be able to wait, thus Apple gets less revenue these few weeks or months. Also a simple, legit mechanism to clear their stock - as oppose to selling the current lineup as clearance and such.

No other companies announce their dates either!

I'm going to the Apple Store and buying a MBP tomorrow. The current machine is awesome! I'm tired of waiting. I waited 6 months. I want the free ipod touch, which I'd miss out of it I wait until sept. The next gen MBP will be about the same performance wise, so I won't miss out on much. And besides what are we really looking at: bigger glass track pad (who cares, i mostly use a mouse), chicklet keyboard (hate it! Love the current keyboard), small performance boost. Plus the current design is a legendary design that I can forever have (I'm the kind of person who collects and keeps everything! :D). How many times have we seen the MBP in tv ads and posters? Its design will forever be remember. More so than the MBA or any others.

I don't want the distraction during college. Its just not worth wasting my time on these forums anymore. I should've just bought it months ago. But you can't look back. Tomorrow I will MORE than enjoy my new MBP and will be ok regardless of what happens with the new one. Besides there's always a chance you take with a gen A product. The current design is pretty well worked out. I understand those who will wait. Maybe its the smart thing, but for the time I'll wast waiting for it, its just a machine. God and people are so much more worth it!

God Bless to you all! Best of wishes with whatever you decide!

Hallelujah son :) Wise decision.

I've been also waiting for 6 months but I will wait more since my current VAIO is still good enough and I don't need the MBP immediately. I'm a bit worried about the new look of the MBP though (if any). The idea of a "more rounded shape" and glass touchpad makes me a bit scared. The best would be that they just keep the current design which, as you said, is just awsome.

If that's the case, you can still get a refurb! ;)

seriously, the refurbs right now are choice. Ive been SO close so many times to just picking up a refurb and moving on with it but I am also curious about this whole "new MBP" deal as well. Could the base model be cheaper than the current base model, but also for more computer than the current base model? Who knows, Im not on a time table, I can wait :). At the very least, much like the poster above me said, I can get one of the current ones now on clearance then if I dont like the "new" MBP.

Oh well, I am being selfish here... since I have already allocated a budget for the hi-end 15", I prefer them using "higher grade" / "more costly" hardware than actually lowering the price. Since apple usually won't increase the price after they have lowered it, and since mbp is already the top line of apple's notebook, bringing down the price tag might means we will have to wait longer to see "expensive" hardware (SSDs, for example) making their way into the mpb in future upgrades...

But maybe it's just me

That sounds good. I just wonder how widespread the graphics card problems I keep hearing about are on the current model.

It's always been part of their marketing style. Big events and announcements. It's Apple's way of differentiating itself from the PC crowd of "riff raff" black slab laptop drones. These days it's just very annoying.

ya i thought about that and it would be a hassle if mine failed. But i had already planned on getting the 3 yr apple care so they'll cover it if it does.

Exciting news! So it sounds like (maybe) a mid to end of August release for new notebooks? Its possible they might wait and do the iPods and notebooks at the same time - but here is hoping they don't! :)

That's good news - they're real!

That's bad news - I need a laptop mid-August for college.

Maybe I'll grab a cheaper Sony, then grab a new ipod touch later...

AppleInsider said:
In this part of the communication, Apple is said to have specifically identified 13-inch MacBooks and 15- and 17-inch MacBook Pros, but made no mention of the MacBook Air.

Based on past experiences and knowledge of their own inventory sell-through, those resellers who received the bulletin believe the notice is a strong indicator that Apple will begin introducing its holiday consumer electronics and Mac offerings sometime in early to mid-September.

...

A report from AppleInsider earlier this week also provided an update on the company's redesigned MacBook and MacBook Pros, noting that shipments were unlikely for at least another 6 to 8 weeks.
Maybe an announcement early (August/September) with shipping a week or two after? That's definitely possible and it would hint at an Apple event, because otherwise Apple could just announce and ship on the same week. Or maybe Apple just wants to separate the MacBook announcements from the September iPod announcements.

It would make sense that the MacBook Air is not to be constrained while the other laptops are, because the MacBook Air most likely won't be updated (a slight bump at most), while the others are expected to be redesigned. The fact that the MacBooks and iPods are listed together in the article and bulletin suggests that new releases of them are tracking for the same or similar timeframe.

I'm constantly battling between what I think will happen and what I want to happen...

Would they really combine an iPod and notebook refresh into the same timeframe? I thought they usually try to seperate releases?

I am officially not waiting any longer. With the time frame of "at least 6-8 weeks" I can NOT wait that long. Besides, the whole Nvidia thing is resolved. The performance gain with the next one is going to be modest at best, and who knows if they will work right. Personally, I think you guys should only wait if you already have a functioning laptop. If you need a laptop and dont have one yet, buy it now. I should have bought the damn thing sooner than this, I cant believe i wasted so much time listening to people who "know" or are "enlightened" as to what will happen. A word of advice to everyone: Only take what you read on these forums as a grain of salt. If you want to take ANY speculation seriously, look at the Apple Insider bulletins that macrumors posts on their home page. Or listen to one your friends that works for apple that actually has some access to corporate secrets. Other than that, make your decisions on your own. Live ABOVE the influence! :apple:

I'm with ya man. I'm getting the current MBP TODAY!!!! YA! Its really a great computer! I'm perfectly content. But hey about the Nvidia thing...When did they resolve it? Do you have a link or anything? Thanks

comparison notebook prices

I would wait to buy a mbp. amazon dropped the price from 1799,- (apple online store) to 1604,- (prices in euro)

they want to get the 'old' stuff out of stock. Very good sign for a new mbp ... (perhaps this month??)

Your not making this any easier to decide what to do...

The new MBPs are at least 6-8 weeks away. Buy NOW if you NEED it. Buy it later if you already have a laptop. Mac rumors posted a bulletin about the nvidia thing on their home page as well as the article about apple telling its 3rd party vendors ie Best Buy to purchase at least 3-4 weeks worth of laptops. The new ones are coming soon, but NOT before people go back to school and not before September. The Nvidia chips are now coated with a much more robust thermal jacket.

I cant find the article on the graphics chips. bu i already told you everything in it.
