As much as I want you to be right, since I've left my MacBook Pro unopened since last Tuesday, you're wrong.
Just too bad for us, eh?
I'm not predicting there'll be an announcement, just hoping.
Man, this feels like a long wait even by normal standards.

Given up. My spidey sense tells me it'll be Tuesday, September 16th. Anything prior will be a welcome & shocking surprise. All the credible insider sources are writing that all the changes with respect to NVidia & Intel are shoving the release date back AND it coincides with the end of the free iPod back-to-school deal. It's been fun to speculate, but I'm resigned to the fact that it's mid-September. Enjoy the wait!

It usually drops to 1-2 days or more immediately before an update. Or that was the case a few years ago, has that changed? I haven't waited for a release for like 3 or 4 years at least.
I personally stop dreaming about an update in august. I put September in my head as a new deadline and waiting again
Over the past few years I have noticed that shipping times don't generally predict release dates.

Previous rumors only had a wide estimated timeframe of "Q3" (except for that one June rumor). Then people started speculating June/July/August/September/October/November/2009. Now the latest rumors are pretty clear on September, either early-mid or late. So it looks like September is a very real possibility.
The original MacBook (MWSF 2006 ~ May 2006) and the Merom notebooks (August/September 2006 ~ October/November 2006) were long waits too.
Seems every Tuesday I'll be refreshing this thread...
It's best if we all face reality and logic and set it into our minds that MID - LATE SEPTEMBER is the time we'll see the update.

So do I, gentlemen. So do I. It's far better to be pessimistic when you know about Apple's history. Optimism about Apple releases is the WRONG way to go.
I kinda gotta agree there.
But then again, I'm a pessimist.
As for your unopened MBP, you could always eBay it for at least as much as you paid for it right now =p
I most certainly didn't want to buy this model (GPU and all). I most certainly wanted to wait for Montevina... but I have to have SOMETHING going to Ireland. There is NO way I'm buying from over there (sorry, Euro users. You're too expensive!), and I bought from the Developer Store (so I could get MORE for it than what I paid) anyway...
Don't you think apple will release something, like they did for the iPhone, where they announce the product's release date like a week in the future, and show pictures of what it's going to look like?

I'm waiting for the new MacBook Pro, too. It'll hopefully arrive end September since I do have enough money then
I don't want the design to change too much, I like how it is now. Some rounded corners would be nice, but not as flattened as the Air is, that won't look right on such a pro machine

If you heard about something with the potential to be 100% defective, you'd be skeptical; I don't care who you are. Since then I've seen the threads; there IS a problem. I still don't believe it to affect 100% of the chips, but I believe it's real.
