ok, today didn't happen as i thought. well, i do hope that it will happen next week or the week after as I think september is a bit too far away. So I predict 12th or 19th so lets pray :))))))))

I hope they won't change the keyboard as the black one would be so ugly in MBP. Maybe aluminium with MBA style but nothing else. OR MBP black alu with black keyboard. That would be something :)))

I wonder...

Hi guys,

I've been waiting for the Montevina release for the last few weeks and all this time I am observing the activity here. And now I am really curious....does every apple product become the cause of a very very very large number of threads with enormous amount of posts? :)

Well, it depends how outdated the current hardware is. :))) Mac Pro was a great example :)

Given the back to school market, I am very perplexed on Apple's strategy here.

If they are just being very smart about the release date from a business perspective, fine. They must have calculated that it's better to get all the back to school crowd buying up their old inventory (bigger total profit given a lower margin on the new machines???).

If this is due to manufacturing delays or something unplanned, then the analysts and press should be all over it. There's some real competition out there for the fence sitters that may not be 100% persuaded to switch to Mac yet. There's also the Microsoft Vista $300m ad campaign to worry about (which may drive some fence sitters to the cool new Montevena-based notebooks that are out).

I may just buy a used Macbook and wait. Of course once school starts I may be too busy and broke to invest in a new notebook, so Apple may not be getting any revenue from me at all this year.

I'd imagine the new MBPs come out on Sept 16th. My reasoning.. the $300 iPod rebate expires on the 15th (Monday).

I think I'll buy MBP on the 14th at a store so I get the rebate, then return the MBP on the 16th when the new ones come out. If they do.. if not I still got a free touch :)

Gl with that somehow I doubt it'll work :(

how much better it that then the current Montevina? and how probable do you think i could be in MBPs?

The quad-core Core 2 Extreme will be a processor used by the Montevina platform. The first units will be quite expensive (over $1000 in lots of 1000), so don't expect to see them in MBPs until the price drops some. I would expect to see them first in high-end iMacs around the time Snow Leopard is released, in MBPs after that.

Tom's Hardware said that Apple invited the media to a product unveiling on the 12th about a week or two weeks ago in an unrelated article. SIGGRAPH is going on from the 11th-15th this month, which may yield something. Apple doesn't really do anything for conventions, so who knows.

You have a source on this? I don't believe your shenanigans...

I was thinking of trying the same thing, but then again, it's probably risky and just a waste of thought. Anyone else thought of doing something like this to try and get more for their money?

Ooh, you're right. Imagine a MBP that was colored like the current black Classics. That would be so sweet.

Quad cores aren't gonna hit the MBP for a while now, get real. The next update will not have them.

We'll be lucky if we get higher res, up to 8 GB RAM (I think this is necessary, especially for people who wanna keep their comp more than three-four years, since RAM reqs will continue to rise), and maybe a 133 MHz boost in base clockspeed, though I doubt it, sadly.

Perhaps a 9600 GT, probably no faster.

Any truth to this, anyone?

To claim the ipod rebate, you need to cut a piece of both the laptop box and ipod box and send it to them. This means you will need to pay the restocking fee on the MBP, loosing pretty much the value of an ipod touch if they do a little price drop on it.

Sorry to break your plans hehe.

It's August 26th

going by the retailer bulletin that told them to stock up with "three weeks worth of product" it's going to be August 26th (possibly the 19th if the bulletin was leaked after several days) Is there a chance the product would be announced on the 12th and then released 1 or 2 weeks later? Has this happened with anything aside from iPhones?

I think it happened with the iMac's last summer. They were announced then came out a little later. Not 100% on that though.

I got my Macbook/Touch at the Apple store. They entered the rebate info on the spot, and didn't take any bits off of my boxes.

I wish there was. Maybe there is, but I couldn't find anything. You'd think other sites would have picked up on that as well, too. :(

m1stake, can you provide a link please?
