I went into my local Apple store today and the business manager guaranteed me that there was not going to be a macbook pro refresh this year. Of course she could have just wanted me to pull the trigger on the current mbp.......funny thing though, this is a big store in one of the largest shopping complex in the UK and they only had one MBP 17" in stock.....maybe they are running stock down??

That's nice of her to guarantee that. I would ask for it in writing and then demand a free upgrade when they are released before the end of the year.

I'm actually already getting calls from the IT department wanting to know my MBP's serial number. The guy seemed stunned that I hadn't already gotten it.

I don't know what the penalty is, but they can always just drop you from school. This place isn't easy to get into and they have a waiting list to replace you with...

Wow that's lame! My school hasn't been pushy at all. College for me starts Sept. 3rd and if I don't have the new MBP by then my mom said she would lend me her work laptop for 1 or 2 weeks.

Most likely, since she definitely doesn't have inside information. Apple doesn't tell its employees ****, and for good reason... there'd be myriad leaks, way worse than the usual ones. And they definitely don't tell random managers who work at Apple Stores anything, either.

Same, except it starts September 1st, and my dad's lending it to me.
