sigh.........still no official dates

but from what I've read everyone is so sure that it will drop by end of Sept.

All the recent rumors point to September. And the older rumors agree with the newer ones too.

The MBP is thin enough. I like it already. Why are they thinning it out yet again? That'll just make it harder to get better graphics cards and CPUs inside. Bad move?
No, it's a perfectly good move, because we know that the MacBook "Pro" must place thinness above everything else* so it would look good and be nice and thin and light. And that's what matters, right?

* Besides basic specs so it doesn't end up like a MacBook Air.

As for rounded corners, IMO that would totally ruin the look of the MBP.... combine that with a chiclet keyboard, and you've no longer got a professional-looking computer... you've got something that looks like it belongs in little Stevey's toy closet.
You know, it fits well with the MacBook Pro getting thinner.

Decided to opt for a low end MacBook Pro with the next update, as I'll be doing a little graphic work with web design etc. Sure, the MacBook can handle this, but it'll be the last opportunity for me to use my HE discount :). I'm really hoping we see that price drop ($1799?)!

I'm also after 1680x1050 LED, MBA keyboard, 2.53Ghz and an ATI GPU.

Not too fussed on a September release as I'll be waiting for the UK iPod back to school deal! But yeah, definitely looking forward to it!

I'm having trouble figuring out if you're being serious or not.

^^^ Recent picture of my girlfriend after hearing me go on about the MBP refresh for weeks on end.

I want to see a family guy version of this where stewie destroys steve jobs.

In all seriousness if Apple makes the MBP any thinner it's going to have to come from the lid. That or we're getting free George Foreman grills with every purchase.

If we buy one say on the 14th of September and the product updates on the 20th, can we give back the old one in return of the newer model?

Hi everyone,

I was just wondering how reliable the september update is, since I'm going to sell my current MBP (2.2) and will have to subsist on occasionaly using one of my family's computers for the next month. I'm planning to wait til mid september but if it isn't sure there'll be an update then I could buy one of the latest gen MBPs instead. I will start college again on september 22, would an update before that date be plausible?

I believe the answer is yes, but you have to have bought it directly from Apple and if it has been opened you will need to pay the restocking fee. If you bought it elsewhere, you would have to deal with whatever that seller's return policy is.

To elaborate even further, I believe there is a 14 day window. That is to say if you purchase a new MBP, and they update the line within 14 days of your date of purchase then you can exchange for the update. So if you buy on the 14th and they update on the 20th you are good, if they update on the 29th, you are out of luck. (I actually did not think the restocking fee aplied in this case if the machine is unopened, but I since I have never actually done an exchange I really do not know for sure.)

Apple will downgrade the CPU from 2.6 GHz 35 W to 2.53 GHz 25 W and stick a low-end GPU in the 15" models (midrange remains in the 17") before that.

Good!! I want a 15" MBP that I can edit video on and not burn my man-parts in the process!!! :D

My thoughts as well. We want more power, not more heat and less performance.

If you're wrong about the release date (you certainly are), promise not to vote? :)

well as you know by now its called Centrino 2 and not "montevina"
know its the latest intel cpu but apple still says that the intel core 2 duo is the latest and fastest cpu right now

Centrino 2, codenamed Montevina, is not the CPU. It's the platform, which includes the CPU, the chipset that connects the CPU to other devices, and the wireless network interface. Core 2 Duo is the CPU; the Core 2 Duo's used in Montevina are codenamed Penryn.

*still waiting

I be that guy who goes to college without a laptop now :[

Like I said before, I think I can wing it for the first 3 weeks, good 'ol paper products and my iPhone. I just want it so bad.

WHY CAN'T APPLE JUST ANNOUNCE THEM NOW, AND RELEASE THEM LATER TO END MY SUFFERING!? Because they like the element of awe and surprise. :[

I ended up buying an Eee PC to supplement my lack of a portable until the refresh happens next Septober or Juvember.

These little Eee PCs are pretty nice little boxes.

Here's the deal guys, regardless of what Apple releases, people (including me) will still go buy it. That is the brand loyalty that Apple has generated and is now abusing.

So tomorrow if they release a thinner MacBook Pro w/ slower processors, slower graphics and with other compromises ... people will still buy it. People here on this forum will vehemently justify and stand behind Apple's motives and sales strategy.

So we'll all play the waiting game and promptly give Apple our hard earned money for whatever they release.
