8800GTX? lol, one problem with that... HEAT
smaller chassis? lol, see above
a QUADRO?!? lol, thats the funniest prediction i think, since when has apple EVER used a pro graphics chipset in a machine?
you guys and your predictions are always good for a laugh:p

+1

8800 not going to happen. ~99% sure on that.
9600 GT likely, if not, a Mobility HD3600. Who would complain with one of them? Not me.

Again, it all depends on what you want from your machine. If you don't intend to play games, the next update isn't going to make much of a difference to you. If you can, wait until Nehalem. Is DDR3 support come out with Montevina, or Nehalem? I thought it was the latter. Gamers are more likely to be impressed by the Montevina update, because it's more likely to have an awesome GPU upgrade in tow.

I'm still waiting until late 2010, early 2011 for a Core 4 Sexadeco MBP, otherwise known as "Sandy Bridge".

I had to buy Penryn today, and if Montevina's announced / released around WWDC I'll be able to "trade up" to the comparable model at no charge, say Apple. Otherwise I expect I'll hold onto this for at least a year, updates or not.

The only things previously holding me back were hoping for 1680x1050 on 15", a magnetic latch, chiclet keyboard (after using MacBooks for two years, I was accustomed) and perhaps a larger trackpad. No guarantee we'll see that in an update...

Edit: Oh, and a move to a new GPU would be nice...

I think...

if they're promising you a no-charge trade that confirms that there will be nothing new. I'd say you talked to somebody who at least knows what's NOT going to happen in the next 14 days... plus Intel's announcement.

I just got my new MBP today... my first Mac notebook. Impressed.

Apple, where have you been all my life?

I now have an HP 8 mos old for sale... 17" anybody who could be interested should pm me.

It doesn't confirm anything, their return policy is two weeks no question returns here in the UK. They then added they would stretch it to four weeks exchange for reassurance. To be honest it seemed as if they didn't even know what WWDC was; perhaps they're paid to act obliviously.

I bought my first mac notebook, a MBP, three days ago and I am loving it! ...cept for the friggin slow 'super' drive.

I will come back here a couple months after June to laugh at everyone who has been waiting for the '2008 big case re-design.':) Realistically, nothing but a speed bump this year, especially the delay. I say expect redesign Jan '09 at earliest. :apple:

Here's what I'm thinking:

Odds of Apple doing major MBP redesign soon? Maybe.

Odds of me wanting to deal with the inevitable problems that come with first generation products? None.

So it's either a minor bump that isn't worth waiting for or a major redesign that isn't worth jumping into.

the impossible dream...

When it happens, I'm gonna tell you "I Told Ya!" :)

Well, OK. I'd be overjoyed if Apple gave you the chance to say "nya, nya, told ya so!" But my inconvenient tethering to the real world makes me go along with jnc--ain't gonna happen.

Seems like Apple threw out the MBA as if saying, "OK, here's something for you hyper-mobile types. Now pipe down!" Don't think they even recognize Mac users who want a sub-13" footprint, AND lightweight to the extent possible, AND stout power/connectivity (MANY such people here in Japan at least).

But again, if you are right, I'll happily bow before your prescience ;)

Centrino 2 to launch on 22nd of June

Just came across this, dont know if its been mentioned yet but looks like the wwdc MBP update is still veery possible.
**
It looks like Intel might start selling Centrino 2 platforms and some new 45nm notebook CPUs on the 22nd of June.

This actually matches the postponement plans, as we already wrote that Centrino 2 comes after Computex, the Taiwanese tradeshow that finishes up on the June 6th.

On June 22nd, Intel plans to introduce five new CPUs where T9600, as the fastest one, will work at 2.8GHz and will sell for $517, and the slowest T8400 will work at 2.26GHz and has 3MB cache, but it will sell for $197.

That leads us to believe that 22nd might be the real launch date. Let’s wait and see.

I really doubt the case will be redesigned but i am hoping for a little speed bump before i purchase a MBP for school..i mean wouldnt we have heard a rumor about it?? It's worth a few week wait for a little reassurance i think though.

WOW! I know this is completely off-topic but please explain your argument.

Oh and btw im waiting for Montevina MB hopefully for uni. this year.

k, phones are nice to get ahold of people and do some texting. But people go crazy over them making them their life spending way too much time texting. I can understand businessmen wanting the iphone for all its organizational abilities, but regardless of how cool a phone gets, Apple should make the computers they started with their priority. I'm not going to be happy if they release a whole bunch of stuff for the iphone at WWDC and hardly anything for Mac. Just not right.

But we already know Apple is a big Intel customer so Intel will accelerate their already aggressive advancements, so I wouldn't be surprised to see Apple put out new computers with the chips 2 weeks before everyone else gets them.

In my view, I don't think an update will be announced / launched prior to July. I think we'll see a MBP around mid to late July or perhaps into early August.

About to switch

I use Windows Laptops since more than 15 years, the upcoming Macbook Pro with hopefully a new design like the Macbook Air will be my first Apple Laptop.

So I will wait for a new design...

I just hope the at LEAST announce the new redesign at WWDC.
its very unlikely that they update the macbook pro case at WWDC seeing as they wont update the comp without updating the speed, and with Intel delaying Montevina until July 14th there wont be new MBP until at least then...

Current Macbook Pro design is a classic - it's like the Porsche 911 of laptop design.

How Ive is going to better it without losing it's appeal is truly going to be a test of his design genius...

No point in waiting, just get the Penryn's right now... Motevina's won't be out till 2010. That's right, you heard it.

They've delayed Montevina as a platform and that's due to a licensing issue with the wireless components. For all we know the chip itself is perfectly on track, so the delay isn't an indication of whether or not there'll be a new MBP at WWDC or not.

Okay Mr. Official Insider.

Honestly, I hope they do come out today (it's Tuesday here) or next week, because I'm struggling to "get comfortable" with this MBP; I keep thinking I'll be taking it back at any moment to exchange it for a newer model :p

I installed XP yesterday and thought "this will all be for nothing if I have to swap models..."

Dibs on redesign? A few months ago everyone was saying "oh well yeah obviously at WWDC" now it's "hmm probably not"..

I tend to agree that regardless of the Montevina delay, there is still a good chance of a MBP update at WWDC. Apple's had Montevina for a long time to make the computer and usually new computers don't start shipping until a good month after big events. So if they released it at WWDC, they could pre-sale in June then actually sell in July.;)

Didn't it take a month for the Air to hit people's living rooms after MWSF?
