The 14th is also a Tuesday. And how many times do people need to be told that those printer promotions have nothing to do with release cycles?

I understand that they dont relate to release cycles, but how often do they restart? Just wondering because I was banking on that for my budget...

Suggest new macs coming Sept. 23

I suggest the New Macbooks (and Pros) will be released Sept. 23 for these reasons (according to other rumors postings):
a) Even lower-level apple employees are already using the new macs
b) Some people have spotting them (possibly) being loaded into Apple stores already
c) Announcement of Android phone on Tuesday (Apple will want to deflate that release)
d) Release of Iomega eGo Helium product, supposedly for Air, but if you think about it, its really for the new entire line of MacBooks (and Pros) -- note it doesn't say Air in the name of the product. A recent Apple Insider article says "Air seeing decreased demand" -- why would want release a new product for a decreasing market
e) Its a Tuesday -- most Apple announcements are on a Tuesday
f) One other rumor poster said that he has a relative that work there and that customers would have them by the end of september (and hence, need to release them say a week before end of sept.)
g) New nvidia chip information to be used in new mac released.
h) In the Seth Weintraub blog "Apple Macbook redesign noise reach a fever pitch" says "The October 14th date actually seems far off as a release date now."

a) I also think that apple forums would be filled with photos if Apple employees have the new MB/MBP

b) There is a Tuesday in every weak ;)

How do you know it? I don't remember any rumors mentioning lower-level employees using new MacBooks...
b) Some people have spotting them (possibly) being loaded into Apple stores already
People often don't see what they don't want to see. The reverse is true as well.
c) Announcement of Android phone on Tuesday (Apple will want to deflate that release)
Deflate the release of a phone by the release of a computer?

You're right, it's not named "MacBook Air's perfect drive". It's called "Helium", which doesn't mean Apple will release MacBook Helium to match it. Iomega is not Apple, and I think they were planning to stop supplying third party manufacturers with details for their new products anyway, so there's close to no chance they know anything.
e) Its a Tuesday -- most Apple announcements are on a Tuesday
I've seen some Asian blog a while back that had a calendar consisting only of Tuesdays, for that very reason. This and "Apple" were the only legible (for me) things there :).
f) One other rumor poster said that he has a relative that work there and that customers would have them by the end of september (and hence, need to release them say a week before end of sept.)
I didn't see that post and I've no idea how valid this point is.
g) New nvidia chip information to be used in new mac released.
I've heard MCP7A-U, the one rumored to be used in MacBooks, is to be released on 23rd September, so you *might* have a point here - unless they moved the date once again. It doesn't mean MacBooks will be released simultaneously, even if they use this chip - and it's by no means certain.
h) In the Seth Weintraub blog "Apple Macbook redesign noise reach a fever pitch" says "The October 14th date actually seems far off as a release date now."
It doesn't count as an argument in itself, since he gave the same reason for this conclusion as the ones you've already mentioned.

Also, note all the changes on the Apple store today as well. Nothing definitive but there are many changes going on there -- every time I get on this morning certain macbook and pros are missing... something is happening here.

There were no iMacs there earlier. Now the Mini disappeared as well. Maybe they're going to discontinue everything Mac so that they can focus on gadgets.

No, really, I would like it if the new MacBooks appeared on 23rd, although there'll be no event there. However, if rumors are true about October 14th planned event, I can't see Apple making any quiet release only three weeks prior to it. Although no one can be sure, of course.

Here's to hoping you're right. IMO though Apple would use the re-design of the MBP as some kind of media event. They would try to squeeze as much marketing juice as they could from it. No new events until Oct 14....

Not lower-level employees, I'm afraid. Apple's way too secretive to risk that.

Depends on what you think of as "lower-level." I'm sure Apple has hardware and software teams shaking out bugs, plus plenty of QA people putting these systems through their paces.

I just looked and I don't see anything missing - Macbooks, mini, iMacs, Pro - they're all there.

I don't doubt that Apple does a lot of testing. That's different however than "lower-level employees using new Macs". And I've no idea about Apple's employment policies, but they employ a lot of people, so I suppose we'd have photos by now if they were all using it.

For the last few hours almost at any time something was amiss - more precisely some models seemed to disappear, only to reappear a minute or so later. Maybe they're done with whatever they were doing and it isn't happening anymore.

As I said it depends on your definition. If by "lower-level" you mean anyone beneath senior executives then I'm sure that some lower-level employees have seen and used them (assuming we're as close to the release as rumors have it).

And I've no idea about Apple's employment policies, but they employ a lot of people, so I suppose we'd have photos by now if they were all using it.

I don't think anyone said that all employees were using them. And we usually only get a photo or two, or not even that, and not necessarily from Apple employees but from elsewhere in the production and distribution chain.

So I think it's very possible that, as reported, some Apple employees have used the new systems and yet there are no leaked photos.

You're probably 100% right, but did you read posts I was refering to?

...

It sounds as if almost everyone was using them - even. So apparently "lower-level" refers to those who have absolutely nothing to do with developing the product (because if they did, they'd likely knew something by default). I think testing is a part of any development process, and isn't equivalent to usage. It's only this that I'm arguing with - that people not involved in any process (possibly including future marketing, planning of the supposed event etc.) concerning new products are using them. It simply doesn't sound reasonable.

Noticed this as well, the blackbook is missing at this very moment.

EDIT: LOL, now it's back. :)
EDIT2: And now it's gone again..

Funny game, Apple likes to play with custumers :)

You're probably 100% right, but did you read posts I was refering to?

Probably, but what I was really thinking of was Seth Weintraub's Computerworld blog:

First of all, I have been hearing a lot more about these products lately. Some lower-level Apple employees have seen it already, so that means images should be hitting the blogs (oh? this is a blog?) any minute now. It also means that it is about to be announced/released. The October 14th date actually seems far off as a release date now.

I agree it makes it sound like everyone down to the office staff is using them, and I also had in mind only people involved in product development. But I suspect that when Weintraub says "lower-level" he means anyone who doesn't interact with Jobs on a daily basis.

MacBook Pros are often released w/o events so that doesn't really mean anything. If Apple really wanted to they could have done it at the recent Paris convention which people were speculating they would...before Apple gave notification they weren't even going to have a presence there. I believe the update last time came 3 weeks or a month after MWSF. So why didn't they release it at the Expo? Because they don't really feel they need to do that in order to generate hype or sales. Look at this forum, the hype is already there. Also it might be an indication it will just be an update and not an overhaul. If they completely revamp the machine w/ a new case and new bells & whistles then I suspect that would happen at an event.

There are no pictures because Kevin Rose's friend has experienced to most painful death of anyone in the last 650 years. No one wants to end up like that poor guy. :p

Please don't say that! The LAST thing I want to happen is the new MBP come out and they're still using the same 5+ year old case design. There's no new chipset until Cantiga, and there's no way I'm waiting until 2010 for a redesigned MacBook Pro!

It's an 8 year old design, and it's pretty sweet.

Just because it's a good design doesn't mean it couldn't be improved. The magnetic latch seems to be a love or hate thing (I personally love them), but at the very least, the seamless, steel-reinforced case of the MBA really should trickle down into the MBP.

What about something like this the?

macbookalsio2_0.jpg

http://machappens.com/2007/09/16/aluminum-and-glass-macbook/

Considering that was put out a year ago I'd say its more forward thinking than the majority of more recent mockups we've seen on these boards. I think it looks too thin to handle the power under the hood but you never know what the "brick" could have to say about that.
