Congratulations on pulling a number out of thin air.

Every time I want to access a document on my iPad that was created elsewhere I have to wait for it to download. Crap experience. The lack of in document search from spotlight on iOS is also terrible.

Tons of other examples of things that should be easy that are far from it.

I work supporting IT in education, and 'most people' constantly find things that they either can't do on the iPad or are far more complex.

Yes the iPad is pretty much there for consumption, but its still a long way off for creation.
Not sure what you want me to tell you. You see their data on iPad sales versus all other laptops and tablets? This tells you what people want.

Most people don't do hardcore computing at all, but if they do, it's probably mostly at work. For the other stuff, I agree you should be using your Mac or MacBook. I'm just telling you that it's clear by the data and what's being offered that the biggest market is the tablet market. People want to consume most of the time...not work.

What is the nicest 4k 27-32” monitor available at a reasonable price (under $700?) for the mini?
Dell makes good monitors. I worry about intel graphics pushing 4k, but maybe it will be fine if you dont try to game on it.

Oh, how times have changed, €899 for a base Mac Mini, that's not all though, if you want some oomph you spend €1500....on a Mini, crazy.

I want one, but not the prices Apple is charging last few years, up...up... and up.
Yeah, with nothing but integrated Intel 630 graphics. That alone makes spending any more than $800 a joke.

New MacBook Air is from $1199.. yet the MacBook pro is from $1249 with the same size display, and a faster CPU?.. so what's the point in the Air?!..

Intel 630 HD graphics.

Oh and Air has half the SSD size at base price compared to 256 on MB

Well - it's a 7th gen in the MBP vs 8th gen in the air... but that's not the difference to be concerned with. Look at weight and battery life.

You also get screen that is almost twice as bright on the MBP.

We also don't know about SSD and Wifi implementations yet. Both 802.11ac, but the MacBook Pro (non-TB) is 802.11ac wave 1 in a 2x2 deployment. MacBook Air, unsure.

WTH?

What about a Mac PRO update?

I'm working on a system that is already 5 years old and for a company that wants to buy NEW Macs NOW.

As a professional using everything from the Adobe CS to FCPx, this is extremely disappointing and it doesn't seem Tim gives a sh*t and just wants to fawn over moving to NY.

RIP Steve. You're missed every day.
It’s coming in 2019 according to most of the rumors. That’s why they released the iMac Pro this year.

A lot a great updates I think.

BUT running on a 2009 iMac, I was really looking forward to an updated iMac 20y anniversary edition.

- Just hope that more is in the making ... and wait ... again?
- Buy the mac mine + dispaly (which one?) ?

What, no AppleCare+??? I'm way too clumsy to do without that . . . .
Fun fact: I have owned dozens of Apple devices and have never ordered Apple Care and have never needed it, aside from my iPhone Upgrade Program, which includes it, but even then I haven't used it. My Apple devices tend to only have a problem in the first year, if they have one at all, and that is covered under the standard warranty. I use cases for everything else. I'm a little worried that this iPad case doesn't have side protection, but it looks like there is a little lip around the edges which should help prevent it from cracking if I drop it. We'll see. If I hate it, I'll return it. But I think it's a sacrifice that might need to be made to work well with the Apple Pencil 2nd gen.

I thought the Mac Mini would be redesigned when looking at the video, seemed to get round, not until the very few seconds they showed the old design, not that I care that much, the current design is Ok with me, but then came the realisation it started out as a €900 base, WTF.

No worries.. I am a scarily avid fan!!

I listened to bits and didn't hear his entire intro, but unless I missed Tim's pointing that out, pointing out what you mentioned instead of assuming the users/viewers would "get it" sure would have added some helpful context for full enjoyment. Or perhaps the intro was designed so that it would be truly fully useful in the future, instead of at the present moment, after people lingered and questioned and tapped/asked, or maybe stumbled upon that valuable nugget of information which finally added context to what was presented (possibly without any helpful context/cues)...

This image looks like the mini's ram is user-upgradeable.

I understand. My current original 12.9 iPadPro has slithered off armchairs or tables too often for comfort but it has the silicone back cover (which Apple stopped making) with corner protection. The lack of corner protection on the new 12.9 makes AppleCare+ a must for my peace of mind if nothing else (clumsy/distracted/cats/tile floors).

At 5.9mm don’t think the keyboard accessory will add 4-5mm.

Yeah I took a closer look, I was looking at the back of the folio and the keyboard. My guess is just the back of the folio adds 30-40%, which puts it virtually the same thickness as the SP6. It's just a shame that something as incredibly functional as the kickstand couldn't have been included, it really really makes using a tablet a completely different experience.

With that said the new pros are phenomenal, absolutely stunning. I'd certainly consider one, but I need a full OS. But as a consumption device it's 2nd to none with the battery life and bezel setup.

The message delivered is clear: they want iOS to be the future (mainly because iOS is better suited for selling services and for limiting the user freedom).

Now all makes sense: MacBooks losing USB-A... the real reason was to reduce the differences between the Mac and the iPad... the introduction of USB-C in the iPad today is a real smoking gun... You see: this is a MacBook. This is an iPad. Same ports, but the iPad is "more professional". They really depend on services for their current marketing strategy, that's why they are pushing into iOS so hard.

MacOS is dead?

Selective data. The installed used base is different.

A huge segment of those iPad sales are for the cheaper non work oriented models (the Mini and 9.7 inch), not the Pro.

The iPad is in a different segment. Compare iPad Pro sales with sales of laptops + desktops + convertibles + Macs and you will get a different story. Also compare sales for work based devices.

And yes.. I was talking about work.

The reality is that a lot of computing is about work. And the iPad Pro is being marketed as a machine for work.

MacOS is dead?
I didn't say that. I said that the message delivered today is clear: Macs were released only because there are still MacOS users. But they want everybody moving to iOS. The enthusiasm was in the iPad Pro, not in the Macs. Apple really needs everybody on iOS for their current business model to succeed.
