Not to pick on you specifically, but why are so many users here calendar-challenged? The current iPhone came out less than 7 months ago. Not a year. Also, new iPhones come out late June/early July. That's about half a year from now. Selling someone the best phone available now, and then releasing a new model in half a year is not even close to an unreasonable thing for either party to do.
If for some reason you feel ripped off every time a new phone comes out, I would suggest never looking at the Android phone release schedule.
I'm not sure what you mean. Verizon already has tens of millions of customers that make that trade-off now. I'm sure they'd be happy to have the iPhone.
Does anyone know if you can do FaceTime over the cell network instead of WiFi with the Verizon iPhone?
Verizon lets you upgrade about 4 months or so before your current contract ends.
Most people don't use voice and data at the same time on their phones. So, the lack of this ability is a moot point for most.
the answer to this question is very easy - how do they do it in other countries when they add a new carrier. they give them the current phone then in june they give them the new one. this will work the same way.Guys, I seriously doubt Apple will release iPhone 5 for Verizon until about a year from now. It makes perfect business sense to keep the upgrade cycle for this phone at 1 year, just like the GSM one. Remember, this CDMA model is going to be a "minor player" for Apple. No matter how many people have been wanting it, it's never going to outsell the GSM model. Plus... .
And there's the deal breaker for me. Nothing more awesome than being on the phone with someone and being able to look up restaurants on Yelp or looking at Maps while talking to someone, at least here in NYC.
Verizon has once again crippled a device.
Why would I pay more (given good coverage where I am at) for:
-No Concurrent Data/Voice (Verizon users....trust me...this is like power windows in a car...once you have it, you wonder how you lived without it)
-No Free Wifi
-No international coverage (this also results in less demand for selling your used iPhone)
-No Rollover Minutes
-Visual Voicemail will not update while you are on another call
Unless Verizon has monthly plans at half the price, forget it.
I would wait if I were you. Wait till March and see the posts on this forum. Grass on the otherside is always green they say but right now it is starting to look brown already and we are not even on the other side yet. Was thinking of getting the Verizon iPhone for my gf since she is already on Verizon and her contract is up for renewal. But now I am thinking she is better off switching to AT&T. Will wait a couple of months and see what happens here.
This is also considering the still yet-to-arrive white iPhone 4- which is still featured on Apple's main iPhone4 web page.
More like crapping their pants and looking for a tall building
That's a very good theory. Oh how I wish I had stock in Apple right now. Very smart of them.Guys, I seriously doubt Apple will release iPhone 5 for Verizon until about a year from now. No matter how many people have been wanting it, it's never going to outsell the GSM model. Plus... Apple can't even handle the GSM iPhone launch in June/July as it is...think about how fast they run out of supply and go to a 4 week backorder. It'd be pure chaos trying to introduce a GSM and CDMA model at the same time. And the reason they run out of GSM units is because they sell them faster than the manufacturer (FoxConn) can make them. If they can't make just the GSM model fast enough, how on earth could they make both at the same time for adequate supply for a new launch? The staggered 6 month launch for CDMA and GSM gives them adequate time to prepare for each launch. Plus...Apple likes high quarterly earnings...a constant January/February Verizon launch gives them a very large Q1/Q2 revenue generator each year. When GSM sales start to slow because people know a new phone typically comes out in the summer.
FaceTime only works over WiFi (on non-jailbroken devices).

My experience has been the opposite. A lot of people I know with Android phones do like them a lot but they've all stated that they would buy an iPhone if it was on Verizon. Its just the same phone that was released last year... It's just now avail on Verizon. I am quite sure they were aware of this and IMO this is old phone slightly behind on the times compared to the new droids coming out. Yes there will be a huge number of people buying them but maybe not. The people I know with droids are very happy with them and few have ever shown any interest in my iPhone. So hype will carry some of this but from my limited experience droid is a serious competitor.
If Verizon does allow VoIP, then Google Voice is going to become a must-have when tethered.

I'm slightly surprised White iPhone 4 was M.I.A. yet again.

No it isn't.
