Installed it and no problems whatsoever. I don't really notice the speed increase some people claim to be experiencing in mail or safari, but they were fast to start with.

Panther really is finished now, I think.

argh! i just installed and noticed that it included updated graphics drivers... now 1152x864 at 75 hz has disappeared!!!!
it only lets me have it at 68hz which kills my eyes!!! now i either have to have 1024x768:( or 1280x960:s. im only using a 17" crt monitor for graphic design and stuff. and now everythings either too big or too small!!

i thought it was only a matter of time before 1152 got dropped! its not really as widely used as the others i dont think, but it was perfect for my monitor!:S i dont want to revert to 10.3.3, anyone think of a fix?

on the plus side, safari kicks ass now! and finder is even more snappy!

Problems

Couldn't sleep so I decided to update my G3/900 iBook at 4am. Screen went dark during update and when I went to wake it up, got all vertical lines. Let it run for half hour hoping that the update was still running in the background. Restarted and got the "You must restart your computer" error screen.

Almost finished reinstalling 10.3 from original disks. I see a long day of updates ahead.

Doesn't seem to be the iBook logic board problem but we'll see. I'll take it to work to finish all the updates and if problems persist, I'll pop over to the Apple Store to drop it off for repairs. Glad it's only my spare computer.

oh well, i'll tell you my Panther boot volumes name. it's 'Panther'. so there. :p

and what about the different colours? can anyone confirm that yet? i'm going to install the update soon... but prolly not reboot yet...

Seems to have been a mostly positive response, so I'm gonna install. Unfortunately, my 500Mhz G3 iBook I use for designing websites has been up for 71 days and I'm gonna have to restart. :( But Safari will be faster, and apparently Mail is better! :)

back in the NT4 days i had an uptime of 349 days in my workstation. had to break it because i really had to install a scsi adapter into it. that's the most stable system microsoft has ever released.

That's good!

Man, when I was a network administrator for Xerox back in '01 if I didn't re-boot our NT4 server at LEAST once a month our network would crawl and take a dive that would put Olympic diver Greg Louganis to shame.

Airport Extreme on my G5 lost a couple of bars with this update, it now hovers at 2/3 when it used to be 3/4. I am 20 feet away from the base station. Pretty upsetting.

I haven't updated yet, noticed though that the majority says this is a good update but why the "negative" is so high too?

I've discovered a small bug: when trying to write a cd with disc burner part of the dialog text is garbled. It functions normally though...

I didn't realise everyone had some many little problems normally!

I have no problems with any part of my system software. When I was running 10.3.3 everything worked as should. I'm happy that 10.3.4 didn't break anything (that I've found so far) but now everything is yet again so much faster!

I guess I don't have any system changing apps.

I use SwitchRes X for custom resolutions on my HDTV (connected via DVI). You can find it on Versiontracker. Current version is 3.3.1, and is $15 shareware. After 15 or 30 days it will not allow you to use saved settings without registering. Up until that time it is fully functional.

Another option is DisplayConfigX. It is also shareware ($12). Resolutions are limited until the program is registered, at which time higher resolutions are available. Find it at Versiontracker. Current version is 0.96. I haven't really used this one, as I couldn't test it out with my HDTV resolutions without registering. So I went with SwitchRes.

and what's up with people posting the percentage of optimization completed? WTH do i want to know that? and we dont' really care what you've named you Panther boot volume either...

as for uptime, i dont' mind seeing that... as long as it's a decent time.

iHack, that's a fairly decent uptime, is that on a work machine, or just one that you surf the net on at home. i can hardly ever get a good uptime on my PB, seems to always need a restart for some reason.

It's on my work and home machine -- I work at my home office. Most things i do involve M$ office, though, beside itunes, safari, toast etc. Although I sometimes do venture into stuff Fink supplies me with...

People with a use for matlab should check out octave. Almost fully compatible and free software!

Someone please confirm that this is new. I used to be able to stack my stickies and have them separate when using exposé, but now if the stickies are the same color, they just show that color and not a separate sticky for each one that is open. So if I have 3 yellow stickies stacked or not when I use exposé I only see one yellow sticky with no title or name or anything.

It worked before the update now it makes stickies even more useless.
Oh well.

At least everything else seems to work better.

:(
The stickies that aren't appearing are probably set as "Floating Windows," which fade away instead of working with Expose (and, in normal use, stay on top of all the other applications instead of acting like a normal window).

To set the "Floating Window" option, click on the problem sticky and toggle the option in the "Note" menu.

If you still have the problem, then I don't know what to tell you ... it works fine for me.

Also, regarding the strange Stickies version bump-up, some people have said that one of the few new features available is Check Spelling As You Type. Well, I was able to do that under 10.3.3
lol. I only said that because somebody else mentioned it. It is entirely possible that I just hadn't noticed the option before. I got so annoyed with Stickies 3.0 (the first Panther version) and its bizarre positioning bug that I copied Stickies 2.0 from a Jaguar machine and had been using it instead (it ran fine in Panther).

It's not really a big deal for me either -- most of what goes into Stickies for me is names of albums and books and products that I intend to buy, so I get so many red underlines it's almost silly to have the spell checker turned on...

It occured to me that the new Stickies version number -- 4.2 -- might be a Douglas Adams reference... after all, 42 is the answer to Life, the Universe, and Everything.

Thus, the strange jump in version numbers may be a sign that STICKIES ARE THE ANSWER and Apple indends to make them the central whiz-bang feature of Tiger (like how Expose was the main feature for Panther) ... either that, or G5 PowerBooks next Tuesday.

;-)

I was also having this problem, and i posted a thread on it. This is a known problem, so I was told, and the way to fix it is to cut off image preview. I did as the person suggested, and it seems to fix the problem. Give it a try.

I too was having problems dragging and dropping multiple items. I reinstalled but did not install mouseworks (mouse driver for kensington mouse) and haven't seen that problem since. Maybe a clue?

OS 9?

After update, all my Classic apple menu items have been baleted. Makes me wonder what else it did to the classic system.

Just think, my calculator rivials the worlds first computers.
15 MHz processor
1.54 MB of flash memory
24,000 K of RAM
The ability to run GUI operating systems. (There are progs that let you emulate windows xp on my calc.)...

Dude, your calculator DWARFS the world's first computers. And, even if you mean 24K instead of 24,000K, you're still very competitive with 1980's-era computers.

...

Anyway, 10.3.4 runs fine so far (after ~6 hours of use) on my G5 and seems OK (with little real use) on the iMac and G3 PB.

Shapeshifter

Shapeshifter still works (tested with GUiPod, that halo theme, and all of the DSX'es) It does this as a precaution with every OS update, including the last. Why? Because with MAJOR releases the finder layout changes such as the new sidebar.

So go ahead, skin your mac again.
