I've discovered a small bug: when trying to write a cd with disc burner part of the dialog text is garbled. It functions normally though...

That Dialog bug has been there since 10.3, on both my G5 and PB G4.
To bad it wasn't fixed with this new update. :(

Hey litosclone, I discovered how to solve it: just trash the preference file of disk utility in your library/preferences, and the text box becomes normal again :)

what are the updates in address book and mail? Is it a performance increase or new functionality?

They fixed a bug in mail that used to irritate me a lot, in the mailboxes drawer. Basically every time you closed and reopened the context menu on a mailbox, a blank entry would appear in the menu.after leaving mail running for days and checking my mail a few times . . . that menu would be huge.

"Open With..." has issues

I skimmed but didn't completely read this entire thread, so perhaps this has already been mentioned.

I now notice that the "Open With..." option sometimes doesn't present me with any choices. Meaning that it never shows the submenu of options at all. If I unclick and then reclick (i.e., right or control click on a file, then go to "Open With..."), the options are there.

I've repaired disk permissions and rebooted a couple of times, but to no avail.

This might have nothing to do with 10.3.4, but I just noticed it recently (past hour or so) and hadn't noticed it prior to updating.

Well it didnt fix my G5 problem, you guys know the one, where all the fans turn on at full blast and it sounds like it is going to take off.

NEVER HAVE A PROBLEM

This is the oddest thing. I have been watching this site and the forums for a LONG while now. I have noticed that there are quite a few people that have problems that I have not once run into. I have a Powerbook G4 15" 550mhz, a MDD 867DP Powermac and a B&W Powermac with a 1ghz G4 upgrade in it. Between these 3 macs and the 8 macs I tend to in my office I have not ever come across anything like the problems being described here.

I am a faithful updater (downright OCD) and look on in amazement as users speak of HD failures and crashing Finders etc...

Am I just lucky (11 times over)?

I guess there is no need in saying how the update is working for me. As usually all 11 Macs are just fine (8 at work and 3 at home), no reason for alarm.

After 10.3.4 I still can't iSync my Motorola v300 phone through the USB cable.... sucks!

hhmmm.... interesting.

well i'm still on 10.3.3, so i did a quick check of the pinstriping colours.

the lighter colour in the striping (RGB values): 244, 244, 244
the darker colour in the stripes (RGB): 238, 238, 238

ssooo... that's quite a big difference to what you say they are in 10.3.4. i'm hoping this can't be right, because i like them really subtle, well, not that i'm ever using the default Aqua theme very much. ;) also, here's some pictures of the difference in colour that i'm talking about. is this the part of the UI that you're refering to?

I was actually referring to what I thought everyone else was referring to: the blue colors that you get when you mouse over a menu item. =]

I ran the update without a problem. Downloaded the stand-alone installer from apple's website and ran it. 10.3.3 to 10.3.4 . Worked great.

Unfort I am not at home at the moment, so i can't verify that Safari is "quicker". My one complaint has been not the speed of loading a page, just that scrolling down the page was nowhere near smooth, especially on web pages that are graphic intensive! If this problem is solved with this update, than it is well worth it.

As for other "fixes" - well, I wasn't really complaining with 10.3.3 on my brand new iBook 1 GHZ anyways! Aside from a few glitches here and there (mainly with safari), I have fallen in love with my first MAC. And ths OS is so much fun to use!

:)

My brand-new dual proc G5 kept freezing after I applied this update. Repairing permissions fixed the problem.

damn... the first of those two security updates broke gettunes...don't know if the latest version would still be broken....

gettunes or update, gettunes, or update....

Anybody wanna help me? A debate on the relative merits of the latest, greatest, miniscule OS update (that a lot of people are rating negative....why? is it a bugged update, or just not including bug fixes you want?), vs. a less than legal way of obtaining lots of free music...keep in mind I'm not on a college campus anymore :-(

Or, just tell me that gettunes 2.3.6 is fully compatible with this update :D

Airport Link Quality

Seems even the Link Quality my built-in Airport Extreme receives is much better..?

I've also experienced this problem in 10.3.3. It doesn't really bother me, so I'm not going to complain.

Safari is fast as hell now... esp. bookmark menus dropping and rendering pages!

The apple link regarding this update did not say anything about such improvements to Safari, are you sure it is not a perceived speed boost

Maybe I’ve just psyched myself out, but Panther definitely seems to be a little snappier after this upgrade. Geez, what a novel concept, OS upgrades which actually improve system performance! (Yah, I’m talking to you, Gates...) ;)

ah, ok then. well the blue menu highlight colour i get is RGB 48, 99, 176 or 49, 101, 181 just using the colour picker there seems to be a slight difference in colour even in the same menu highlighted item.

so here's what you found (on the top) compared to me running 10.3.3:

RGB - 48,100,178 and 49,100,179
RGB - 48, 99, 176 and 49, 101, 181

so there might be a slight difference, but i may be getting different values because i'm just using a screenshot of a menu...

well since i have a 10.3.3 screenshot, i might post a 10.3.4 screenshot when i update if there is a big difference.

Quote myself: STOP RUNNING, YOU STUPID FAN!!!

Case: PB 12" rev a 867. "It just keeps going, and going, and going, and going..."

All you have to do is rip out the drivers from the previous version where it didn't make your fan keep blowing. Then update to Panter's latest, delete the same drivers, reboot, put the previous version drivers in and reboot.

I did that and i'm running 10.3.3 with the fan acting like it did in 10.3.1

FINALLY they fixed this issue. When you previewed an mp3 or movie file, the Finder would bug out. I dont know why it took this long for them to fix it though.

Optimizing volume....

Software Update should have an Auto-restart feature so you can walk away and have the machine restart automatically when the update is done.

Yes there aren't speed optimizations directly in Safari, but as has been noted earlier, my machine also like another user's, improved it's text drawing speed in Quartz significantly in 10.3.4- which obviously helps drawing/scrolling speed of something like Safari.

Couldn't sleep so I decided to update my G3/900 iBook at 4am. Screen went dark during update and when I went to wake it up, got all vertical lines. Let it run for half hour hoping that the update was still running in the background. Restarted and got the "You must restart your computer" error screen.

Almost finished reinstalling 10.3 from original disks. I see a long day of updates ahead.

Doesn't seem to be the iBook logic board problem but we'll see. I'll take it to work to finish all the updates and if problems persist, I'll pop over to the Apple Store to drop it off for repairs. Glad it's only my spare computer.
I also have a 900ibook and when I did the install it gave me the you must restart your computer message as well when I did It only loaded as far as loading user login window and never past that so for me it's back to 10.2.something
 I hate expoler...

Hmmm...I downloaded it and a grilled cheese sandwich I had afterwards *definitely* tasted better than it usually does. :)

J/K...actually I'm stuck on dialup and therefore on 10.3.3 for the moment. :(

Now all I need is an update that fixes the goofy way the selection cursor in mail works (what happens when you try to shift-highlight multiple items -- if you try to go back it adds to the other side instead of removing from the side you're on, and how you can't highlight a mail item in the list and start typing to go to a certain part of the current sort-by field, like typing "M" when its sorted by FROM to go to senders starting with M....)

How exactly does one go about doing this? Or does anyone have a simpler solution?

Thanks
