This must be a good sign that Tiger may be released in next few weeks as Apple is showing off the rumored GM build at FOSE-but they may not choose to comment on if the Tiger build on display is GM or when a release date for Tiger is made official and public.

Apple may just be demoing certain features of Tiger we already know or of interest to the expo's target audience.

if there is no announcement then my powerbook order is going in by the middle of next week... held out long enough... wonder if they will honor copies of Tiger to ppl who purchased a computer within the last couple of weeks or so?

anyone have anything like that happen w/ panther?

just curious... either way i will be getting Tiger when it drops even if i will be in the caribbean

Anyone able to attend will be able to report back with information on what Apple choose to show at the exhibition. If Tiger is not released by that date, Apple might just show spotlight and other features we already know about it.

IMO OSX 10.4 Server is more important to potential Government buyers than Tiger is.
Access to 64 bit memory is important for HPC type systems.

The frustration some of you feel is entirely the fault of rumor sites such as this for, yet again, creating a false expectation around a launch.

Apple said it would be out in the first six months of 2005, of which there are still 3 months to go!

The frustration lies in the fact that most people believe Tiger has gone GM. Normally when the OS gets to this stage it's hard, even for Apple, to keep this a secret.

So with good reason to believe Tiger IS finished, we are all wondering why Apple are holding back at release.

US government and macs?

could it be?

I use my own powerbook at my govt. job. There are less then a handfull of macs on the network (there are several thousand PC's). It was tough when I first started using it, since we are using Novell, Notes and Samtime. Finally got all that up and running, now if I can just get Cisco to support something other then IE to manage their Avvid line

And this is what will keep Apple out of the user end of business and Govt. markets. There are alot of web apps that need IE to work. I have 5 different apps that don't work on Safari, Firefox, Mozilla, etc. But some do work on Netscape 4.x running in Classic. Until developers start coding their apps to work in something other then IE, Apple will never make it big in either area.

And at least according to this you will be able to buy Tiger on the 15th of April, oddly enough endorsed by Tiger Woods.

Considering that the U.S. government and supporting businesses will
be spending somewhere in the neighborhood of 80 billion dollars on
IT over the next few years and security issues are a number one priority.

I figured Apple would be forced to show Tiger as ready to roll NOW
rather than having to admit that they still only had some mythical future OS like Microsoft is still doing :D

I'll bet that the Apple booth is getting a whole lot more attention than it ever had before.

Apple IBM, OSX and XServe make a strong team.

Good, Good, Good, Great and Bad News

Good News:
Amazon is going to offer Tiger for $95.

Good News:
Tiger is a top seller for weeks on Amazon.

Good News:
Apple guaranteed Amazon that they would fully stock them for launch.

Great News:
Tiger is ready to ship!

Bad News
Commitment to fill all Amazon orders and known demand has caused a delay until Apple can package and deliver more units.

Haha! I think that reporter picked up an April Fools joke that was flying around. Besides even if it wasn't from the Tiger Woods April fool joke, I wouldn't trust an article on Apple or Macs by someone who thinks the Mac Mini is called a "miniMac"

Sorry, but:
1. If you're sick of waiting, stop looking at rumour sites!
2. If you're not buying anything till august, then why worry? We know it will DEFINATELY be out 1H 2005, so can get it in august...!

1. I'm a curious man, but I'm looking less often now. The reason why I occassionally look is because I get really excited when Apple releases something so major. Also, I have never seen an OS release like this, (becuase i switched in August) so it's interesting.
2. My point exactly.

I have heard that if you buy your computer within 30 days of Tiger, your upgrade to Tiger will be free.

Maybe there will be no pre-announcement.

Just one day, Tiger is live and burning bright.

Be careful!

I would not spread that bit of information around as it is not the policy that Apple has demonstrated in the past.

In the past, only purchases made after the announcement date were eligible for upgrades. Thirty days has nothing to do with it.

There may have been special cases that people were lucky enough to have Apple upgrade them at little or no cost on orders within 30 days but that is not the general policy.

thanks

I was just at the Apple Store in Charlotte, NC and I asked when they expected Tiger to be released. The genius guy said "soon." I said, "how soon?" He said it would happen this month.

Does he actually know anything? Probably not. But that's what he said.

I just got fired!

I think we are expecting it too soon. They will make it first half of 2005. Let them take thier time. I think the gov should have the power of tiger in thier claws.. lol

Well, from my point of view, I damn well hope Apple lets me upgrade rather than buying a completely new package. Ordered my Mac Mini on 17th of January. It arrived ... yesterday. Nearly three bloody months between ordering and delivery; I certainly expect Apple to do something to make up for it. Since I doubt they'd give me a dual G5 PowerMac, I'll settle for a cheap Tiger upgrade. :D

Ummm, ...

Are you the employee he was referring to? If so, that sucks.

Considering VicMacs' location is the Dominican Republic, I'd venture a no. Or he's got one hell of a commute. :D

Me too. First thing I do every morning. Sad, really.

I'm a little tired of waiting and speculating. We know it will be out soon, just not excatly when. Besides, it won't affect me because my G3 couldn't handle it and I'm buying an iMac in August. Although, once it comes out, there won't be any rumors on this website.....brings a tear to my eye. :D

No more rumors? You're forgetting there'll still be dual-core G4 or G5 PB rumors, dual-core G5 PM's or just a (long overdue) update to the PM's, Asteroid, iBook updates, etc.
