Tiger, Tiger, burning bright
In the forest of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Could frame thy fearful symmetry?

In what distant deeps or skies
Burnt the fire of thine eyes?
On what wings dare he aspire?
What the hand dare seize the fire?

And what shoulder and what art
Could twist the sinews of thy heart?
And, when thy heart began to beat,
What dread hand and what dread feet?

What the hammer? What the chain?
In what furnace was thy brain?
What the anvil? What dread grasp
Dare its deadly terrors clasp?

When the stars threw down their spears,
And water'd heaven with their tears,
Did He smile His work to see?
Did He who made the lamb make thee?

Tiger, Tiger, burning bright
In the forests of the night,
What immortal hand or eye
Dare frame thy fearful symmetry?

Ah, brings back memories of Senior year high school English (though that was only 5 years ago...). I always like the phrase, "What the hammer?"

I try to forget about Tiger and not get caught up in all the "announcement excitement". Otherwise I'd be dying and refreshing apple.com every 5 minutes.

I'm not that fussed over the Tiger release. Don't get me wrong I will be getting my grubby hands on it ASAP. However, I will not be using it as my primary OS until a couple of updates have been made available.

I had a bad experience with installing the first release of Panther resulting in a HD reformat. Tiger will be installed on a secondary HD for testing.

I'm after G5 PMac updates and a drop in price....I hope.

OK Apple you've presented it to the government. Now it is time to present it to us.

i think we might know why tiger was delayed later on in april/may when they slap some more law suits against rumor web sites!

this can only be a mole hunt at apple and certain web sites passing on the infomation leaked.

besides - this is a win win for apple , they get all the hype around Tiger 10.4 and with a bit of luck they get to nail the leaks at apple once and for all.

i think there are alot of people out there who know more then they are letting on about the actual release of Tiger 10.4 but are too scared to say anything yet.

Or maybe we may know when Apple's next financial results are released soon

The frustration lies in the fact that most people believe Tiger has gone GM. Normally when the OS gets to this stage it's hard, even for Apple, to keep this a secret.

So with good reason to believe Tiger IS finished, we are all wondering why Apple are holding back at release.

You mean, most people that follow rumour sites beleive 10.4 has gone Gold - none of this is Apples fault. It is entirely caused by the endless specualation and rumour mongering that goes on here and elsewhere. Those who follow it sure have only themselves to blame for any "frustration" that results.

Tiger might just come out today

It could be released today (Wednesday). Remember, the new iPod minis and iPod photos a few weeks ago? That came out on a Wednesday. I think there gonna launch it when we least expect it. Let's hope they don't do the same as Panther: Tiger. Coming October 24th 2005 :D

Tiger April 9th??

Hey all I'm new here but have been lurking around for a while. I just saw this on an Aussie website http://www.compnow.com.au/index.php?option=News&task=viewarticle&sid=53

Taking the two week rule into account, does this mean Tiger will be released Saturday April 9? (then in stores on 23rd?)

Anyway I'm hanging out so I can buy a new P/Book and get Tiger as well

Edit: Or since it says until 23rd, maybe released Monday 25th?

see ya later

Good News: Amazon is going to offer Tiger for $95.

Good News: Tiger is a top seller for weeks on Amazon.

Good News: Apple guaranteed Amazon that they would fully stock them for launch.

Great News: Tiger is ready to ship!

Bad News Commitment to fill all Amazon orders and known demand has caused a delay until Apple can package and deliver more units.

Huh. This seems like a logical explanation..

Bah! Must be Quad Powermacs!

*shrugs* I will be out when its out. Considering the relative speed that Tiger went from crashing at MW in January to speculated gold I'm not just a little wary about picking it up I'm down right suspicious. I fully expect 10.4.1 to be out within a month of Tiger’s release. What was Jobs’s quote? Real artists ship or some nonsense like that?

Quick patch is good engineering

It's not uncommon for software (especially O/S software) companies to plan on releasing a patch pack immediately after shipping a new version.

For an operating system, it takes a lot of configuration testing of all the various upgrade and installation possibilities. The "final" kit is tested against lots of different configurations.

When bugs are found (*are*, not *if*) the prudent thing is *not* to fix minor bugs, but to put them in the patch pack. If you change the installation kit, you risk introducing upgrade/installation problems unless you restart the configuration testing at the beginning.

Only really serious problems should be fixed at this stage of the cycle - the efforts at fixing things should be put towards getting 10.4.1 out as soon as possible.

It makes sense to bring your potential release version to a show. Having been in a booth, I know that visitors to a show can crash anything. Consider it an especially brutal beta test.

just curious... either way i will be getting Tiger when it drops even if i will be in the caribbean

Funny thing is - it looks like it will be announced or released when I am in the Caribbean!

I just read that Aussie website pre order deal... and maybe I should take it up?!
I'm in Aust, but fly to the USA for a few days before jumping on a cruise ship to do the Caribbean and the Panama Canal.

DOH! I wonder if I order online - if they would deliver to the cruise ship?!?!

I use my own powerbook at my govt. job. There are less then a handfull of macs on the network (there are several thousand PC's). It was tough when I first started using it, since we are using Novell, Notes and Samtime. Finally got all that up and running, now if I can just get Cisco to support something other then IE to manage their Avvid line

And this is what will keep Apple out of the user end of business and Govt. markets. There are alot of web apps that need IE to work. I have 5 different apps that don't work on Safari, Firefox, Mozilla, etc. But some do work on Netscape 4.x running in Classic. Until developers start coding their apps to work in something other then IE, Apple will never make it big in either area.

I'm sure all your co-workers will be delighted to know that Microsoft's new
IE 7 does not support Windows 2000

This was according the the Computer Guys broadcast @ FOSE on WAMU

My agency has Macs. They aren't widely used but we do have some.

Dept of Army has just mandated a 100% migration to Active Directory, which probably functionally does away with our remaining Mac holdouts.

On the working level, we're still trying to figure out their logic for Active Directory. There doesn't appear to be any, given that their other "Security Mandates" have included a recent order to eliminate all USB ports because of easily concealable flash drives --- they then realized that all keyboards/mice are now USB based, so they said "Okay, you can keep 2" and are choosing to look the other way for how trivial it is to unplug a mouse to plug in a flash drive. You can't make this stuff up.

Oh great, now when one gets hit, they can take them all down.

How friggin stooopid are those guys anyway?

Active Directory is Microsoft's trademarked directory service, an integral part of the Windows 2000 architecture. Like other directory services, such as LDAP or NT Domain, Active Directory is a centralized and standardized system that automates network management of user data, security, and distributed resources, and enables inter operation with other directories. Active Directory is designed especially for distributed networking environments. top
