It’s almost as if these people require approval for their purchase decision and trying to justify it to themselves and others after buying into the marketing hype.

New product released, oh so shiny I am going to lease this purchase over X amount of months or years.

Purchasing something for the sake of having something new makes no sense to me, maybe I am part of the odd minority dunno. I have had an iPad Pro, granted it’s very powerful for iOS based work but even with the welcoming updated of iPadOS it still is limited compared to any laptop. It basically a glorified e-reader with other capabilities included. Give me a laptop any day.

AppleWatch, had that too it’s basically a health tracker with some additional options but limited as it required an iPhone for most functions. I will wait till it becomes a solo viable product.

iPhone like that a lot, but there is room for improvement.

After having most Apple devices I am down to an iPhone and a MacBook Pro. Mobility and Functionality with power to spare operating a full fledged OS.

If it is a mistake, I doubt he gives a hoot. Apple approached him to test it out, not the other way around.
I have just got an iPad Pro 11 inch (refurbished) model, while I wait for the bigger MBPro. Even then I shall wait for reviews before I spend my money on it.

This is true. We all know that people routinely lug around ~20KG tower PCs because there is no more portable form of computer.

computer towers are meant to be workhorses and hardly ever move unless to roll it to the IT shop, moving things around the office once in awhile. Who cares if it has wheels, a simple cheap wooden dolly will provide the same functionality with a little leveraging to get it onto that low platform. Wheels for the legs are not needed, but on the other hand a stand/base for a display is needed and should be included but not as an addition at $999 USD.

I had it, I got rid of it. I like the artistic notion of this device but I never found myself getting around to it. I guess I may be considered “old school” as I still prefer paper and scan it in. Paper is going nowhere even though Jobs and the tech industry have a hatred for it. I fail to see how consuming energy to power these devices with a limited lifecycle is any better than paper. 50 years from now digital artwork will just get lost in the universe of all other work. There is a reason why high valued paintings at auction are on canvas.

I don’t know many people who hang multiple lcd or oled screen around their dwelling to appreciate masterpieces. Oh shoot the electricity is out and the backup generator and battery is too expensive to appreciate it by candlelight oh the ambiance is lost in digital artwork. /personal feelings

I have couple of big old Tower Cases and they are a pain to move around.. and they are a bit dated but I don't care.. They are Corsair Obsidian 750d and are heavy with complete systems in them.

I also agree that Someone should ask Calvin straight up about his post! If he doesn't reply then we all know its fake, simple !

What exactly was wrong with the trash can design again? I thought that design was supposed to be better for expansion and heat dissipation?

I feel that a lot of people speculating that he’d be “punished” over this are just jealous

He didn’t reveal some insider trade secrets.. its just a brief spot in a video not even featuring the computer. Outside of this forum and other apple specialty interest sites the vast majority of people not only wouldn’t have noticed but also don’t care

There is nothing more to be gleaned from that picture than what anyone would already know

i doubt that any mac pro will ship with mojave. Catalina has the expansion slot utility
Apple shipping a new machine when with a previous version OS when the new OS has been released weeks ago, yep that makes sense. I am sure all Apple branded 32bit apps and add-on will be 64bit on release.

Some people with the crazy talk. :p

I personally no longer require a tower at home, when my work required I remember the weight and trying to carry that thing up and down steps once in awhile (wheels do not resolve this). Nowadays it’s all towers in the office for repairs and we have rolling racks under each or a low profile dolly. Good thing lifts are there at work, too expensive to install one at home ;-)

Seems like envy that CH has the opportunity to work on the new MP. Soon enough the ones who can afford one and need one will be able to do so soon. It’s not like CH purchased it without it being introduced. So I fail to see what an NDA would accomplish for testers.

Native Instruments is really keeping up. iZotope isn't and that's my main concern.
iirc izotope only has issues with the installers - not plugins itself, some clever guy swapped latest izotope installer with older plugs and it works fine on catalina.

Assuming that is legitimate, it’s possibly a case of sour grapes. The Mac Pro does have a market, just most of the people looking to buy one aren’t found here.

I'll post a video of some people's reaction watching a video showing myself onboxing a MacPro and saying "OMG"...

But it’s not utilitarian and it looks terrible. There are plenty of alternate designs that don’t look ridiculous.

Some people will never be happy with anything.

Thin iPhone? > “form over function”
Thicker iPhone? > “a brick”
Utiliarian Mac design? > “looks like s.”

Waves, Toontrack, Arturia, Universal Audio, and Native Instruments plug-ins, virtual instruments, and hardware doesn't work, and that's only a small sampling of companies off the top of my head. There are dozens of others. Press releases have gone out saying their products are not compatible or only partially compatible with Catalina, and updates are forthcoming. While Logic offers quality, built-in plug-ins, no professional is going to limit themselves to the options Logic provides. Heck, I'm only a bedroom musician, but pretty much every plug-in I own doesn't work under Catalina, nor does my interface.

For those with questions on compatibility, Sweetwater has an excellent listing: https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/macos-10-15-catalina-compatibility-list/#a
That list is for the most part, a list of hardware that is incompatible. The few mentions of software do not say not working in Catalina, they say not yet verified by those companies. I'm using plugs by by all major developers on 10.15 and they all work.

Wow .... I wonder how much this will cost him - surely a breach of whatever NDA Apple had him sign.
Considering I've seen this story on every tech news website, I'd say it's the best marketing run for Apple this year. Plus, it was free!

It's not like he showed anything anyways. It's the front of an already reviled product.

The design is intended to allow for maximum airflow while minimising the amount of noise generated. This (supposedly) fixes one of the biggest issues with the trash can Mac Pro, while preserving what people like about Macs.

How is this not utilitarian again?

Completely reliant on the work being spread evenly between one mid-powered CPU and 2 mid-powered GPUs, no support for standard PCIe GPUs and other cards, no internal storage expansion beyond a single proprietary SSD blade.

I think it might have caught on if it hadn't been the only powerful desktop Apple offered - but they let the old cheesegrater pretty much die before releasing the trashcan.

Likewise, there's no problem with Apple making a $10k-$20k monster 28-core, quad-GPU supercar with a $5k display for the handful of people who need it - its just that they've stiffed everybody who just wants a decent headless desktop at something like the old Mac Pro price point. (Even the supporters seem to agree that the $6k entry model doesn't make sense other than as a base for massive expansion).

dude, send us a picture of what you would wear on a night out, and im pretty sure you'd get ripped a new arsehole by half of the people here, and the other half would ask you where you'd buy it. discussing subjectivity is just a waste of time on these forums, lets move past that.

Please update the trashcan Mac Pro and keep the price of the base model under $3K. At least give the rest of us a chance....this one, while nice, is not affordable for most.
I agree - I actually love my trashcan - v easy to move about from office to home. Just need it with a 2080ti or optional Quadro RTX6000 & a 32 core, for Archicad / Lumion / Logicpro & occasional finalcut.
