Mac Pro Spotted in Studio of DJ Calvin Harris Ahead of Launch

I really hope the chinese make a knockoff of that case or skillfully acquire some that fall off the back of a truck. (dune case isnt close enough)

I want to do my next big hackintosh in that since the pricing on the legit machine is so offensive for the parts.
i don't even care if i have to machine my own backpanel for the ports

Wow .... I wonder how much this will cost him - surely a breach of whatever NDA Apple had him sign.

Why would it? The existence of the Mac Pro is not a secret. The fact that Apple is working with high-profile artists to design and test the Mac Pro is also not a secret. It makes perfect sense to have several high-profile "pros" are actively testing the Mac Pro right now. Some of them will likely feature in one of the slick videos that Apple will inevitably release of pros using the new Mac Pro.

Why don't some people just understand that this Mac isn't meant for them? Whoever mentions the price simply has no idea what Pro really means and who the users of such devices are.

"16 inch macbook pro review models sent out" source please?

Rumors! Go back and read some of the prior comments from the start of this thread as well as other related Mac Pro threads.

It is rumored that Gruber has a review unit and possibly...of all people...iJustine.

If you want sources, just read a few of these Mac Pro threads. I'm just repeating the rumors.

Okay
Rumors! Obviously you haven't been reading enough of these threads.

Okay. Thanks... who is Gruber?

Pffft. I’ve been living with Calvin Harris for 23 years and no one has been fawning over him. He owns a 2015 mbp, iphone SE and Arcimoto motorcycle. Must be hiding the cheese grater from me ;)

ok..
Take a real "close" look at that pic.
I 've had a real good look at it and also compared to using the AR kit even in my studio..
He's clever knowing that after 24hrs it would be taken down but not clever enough..

It's Fake !!
How do I know, take a look real close.... there is NO shadow under the case from that photo.. at that angle there would be shadow under the case from the angle of the camera, which I believe if you look at the meta data is from his Laptop camera.

Using the AR kit from the Apple website doesn't generate shadow !! the colour profile is HD 709-a .. it's definitely been faked ! He's fooled us all..

Why would anyone need such a powerful computer just to process audio? Overkill

So what do you think is the absolute maximum someone should have for audio?

Granted, a lot can be done with a Mini, but in a 50-100 track project, if you turn on oversampling on everything, you kill it nearly instantly.

There's a light on the floor :D and it casts a shadow..

WRONG
I for example often spend over 10 grand and Apple products a year, every time I've bought in the MacBook Pro I max it out etc. ( with Power Macs and Mac Pros I've always got the minimum I need to start knowing I can and do, do my own upgrades after the fact usually some day1 and more supplemental as needed.
that's just working smarter, not harder kind of common sense.

the reason I complain about price isn't because I can't afford it, it's because so far we only have one data point for price.

the base model
you can do a part from part remake of the base model for about half the price if you're willing to hackintosh.

to me that is offensive.

don't get me wrong I'm used to an "Apple tax" usually ($50-300ish) kinda over the equivalent hackintosh, I usually chalk that up to the ease of not having to do it myself and also getting a nicer fit and finish.

don't get me wrong maybe the margins are really bad on the base and more reasonable on the mid and upper tiers, in which case they may yet get their money out of me, but with Tim running the ship I doubt it.
he's proven time and time again the only thing he knows how to innovate is how to take money for the minimal amount of effort possible.

ok fair enough ! respecting your view, but I still think it's fake! If any DJ/Producer would have it would be Deadmau5. He is geeky enough to have one and know how to use it. You should see his setup !!

Waves, Toontrack, Arturia, Universal Audio, and Native Instruments plug-ins, virtual instruments, and hardware doesn't work, and that's only a small sampling of companies off the top of my head. There are dozens of others. Press releases have gone out saying their products are not compatible or only partially compatible with Catalina, and updates are forthcoming. While Logic offers quality, built-in plug-ins, no professional is going to limit themselves to the options Logic provides. Heck, I'm only a bedroom musician, but pretty much every plug-in I own doesn't work under Catalina, nor does my interface.

For those with questions on compatibility, Sweetwater has an excellent listing: https://www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/macos-10-15-catalina-compatibility-list/#a

All the latest Native Instruments stuff including hardware does work.

??? Seriously, many top composers/producers (of which I will consider Calvin Harris one of) would want to get the new Mac Pro. Why do you think Calvin Harris wouldn't want one? And "know how to use it" OMG...:) It's not different from any other Mac, it's just more powerful. And yes, if you do serious, heavy composing/audio work, you want all the CPU + RAM you can get your hands on.

And as for the whole "it's fake!!" think. Why on earth would it be? The machine exists and it's not hard to imagine Apple placing pre-production (or early production) units in the hands of famous talent.

I don't believe Apple would consider him, He is in Las Vegas not Cupertino, they wouldn't ship out a pre-production model just for it to "sit" around ! That's not good for business !

One thing for certain his studio is a pig sty.

They will soon all work. The fact the 3rd Party OEMs haven't converted to 64 bit when AU are all 64 bit is on them, not Apple. They've had a minimum of 8 years to go 64 bit.

Logic Pro X Vendor list transition status page [not always current but the links are]

Native Instruments is really keeping up. iZotope isn't and that's my main concern.

Well, one thing is certain -- it's running Mojave and not Catalina, since almost every music and audio and video software company has told all their users NOT to upgrade to Catalina; most applications still require 32-bit plug-ins, etc., even if the software itself was 64-bit.

And now that I see it in real-life use, to me it looks rather clunky, not sleek at all like the Mac Pros before the trash can. (Just my own personal tastes.)

i doubt that any mac pro will ship with mojave. Catalina has the expansion slot utility

"There is a question of need and not affordability for logical minded folks."

Yes, for sure. You hear the little Apple Bloggers crying about the price all the time. They all want one and they can't afford it; however, almost none of them need a Mac Pro for what they do. Hell, many of them have iMac Pros and even those devices are overkill for how they make their living.

I'm thinking of the children on the Relay FM podcast network. You hear some of these guys talk about new devices and trying to convince themselves the latest Apple Bauble fits in with how they work, and it's just comical.

One of them was talking about having both sizes of the iPad Pro and he was all like "hear me out. The larger one can be like my desktop machine for when I work from home and the 9.7 (at the time) could be my travel iPad."

It's like--dude, they're iPads, not iMacs; they're portable. You want both machines because you have Apple Bauble lust. Just buy them. Don't try to justify the purchase--you sound silly.

They can't do that with the Mac Pro and it just drives them nuts.

It’s almost as if these people require approval for their purchase decision and trying to justify it to themselves and others after buying into the marketing hype.

New product released, oh so shiny I am going to lease this purchase over X amount of months or years.

Purchasing something for the sake of having something new makes no sense to me, maybe I am part of the odd minority dunno. I have had an iPad Pro, granted it’s very powerful for iOS based work but even with the welcoming updated of iPadOS it still is limited compared to any laptop. It basically a glorified e-reader with other capabilities included. Give me a laptop any day.

AppleWatch, had that too it’s basically a health tracker with some additional options but limited as it required an iPhone for most functions. I will wait till it becomes a solo viable product.

iPhone like that a lot, but there is room for improvement.

After having most Apple devices I am down to an iPhone and a MacBook Pro. Mobility and Functionality with power to spare operating a full fledged OS.

Have we got any official response about this from Apple or Calvin Harris? It seems to me this is either a planned publicity stunt or a mistake and now he's in hot water with Apple.

If it is a mistake, I doubt he gives a hoot. Apple approached him to test it out, not the other way around.
