If its the real thing, very disappointed he could not afford the wheels
That presupposes that he wanted the wheels. If you're going to leave it in the same place all the time, the wheels might seem like an expensive detraction. You also seem to presume he bought it at retail (which no one can do yet). More likely it's been provided by Apple for him to test and give his reactions. Apple may simply not have put wheels on the unit they provided him.

How so Abazzigal? Give me the airflow specs on it. There are plenty of much higher end solutions that don’t look like crap.

The design is intended to allow for maximum airflow while minimising the amount of noise generated. This (supposedly) fixes one of the biggest issues with the trash can Mac Pro, while preserving what people like about Macs.

How is this not utilitarian again?

How does that go, "clean desk, clean mind?" Or was it, "empty desk, empty mind?" I can't remember but my desk is clean.

(my work gets done too somehow)

Please update the trashcan Mac Pro and keep the price of the base model under $3K. At least give the rest of us a chance....this one, while nice, is not affordable for most.
I'd be happy with a larger Mac mini with upgradable CPU, GPU, and RAM, AKA the xMac concept. Or a Mac Pro with fewer PCIe slots and lower-end components closer to the price and capabilities of the old single-processor 5,1.

The "trash can" design doesn't work out for a standard PCIe GPU and should be retired. It was a pretty-to-look-at flop, just like its predecessor (G4 Cube).

I don't believe Apple would consider him, He is in Las Vegas not Cupertino, they wouldn't ship out a pre-production model just for it to "sit" around ! That's not good for business !

Apple has explicitly said they have been running new designs by the Pro Apps workflow group or whatever its called. Of course they would give to top flight users in the field who are used to handling high profile information.

Well, one thing is certain -- it's running Mojave and not Catalina, since almost every music and audio and video software company has told all their users NOT to upgrade to Catalina; most applications still require 32-bit plug-ins, etc., even if the software itself was 64-bit.

And now that I see it in real-life use, to me it looks rather clunky, not sleek at all like the Mac Pros before the trash can. (Just my own personal tastes.)

Unless of course he is not using it all as it appears! Setting that thing up to run it and integrate it into his setup would take a minimum of 3 days which he doesn't have. Apple would have sent it to him pre-loaded with Logic. He's probably booted it, run 30 instances of Serum, wowed his mates and then put it aside whilst he works from his laptop on Mojave. Calvin, give me a like if I'm right, promise I won't tell the Gerhard and the team 😛

It didn't used to be that way with Mac Pros FYI. This is only a recent thing where prosumers are simply priced out.

Not true. The Mac IIfx was base-priced at $9K in 1990 (around $17K in today's money). Had a couple of friends that bought one. The Mac Quadra 700 started at $5,700 ($11K today).

And my Mac IIci cost me around $6K which would cost around $11.7K in today's money.

It IS true. I bought a 3,1 for $2,329. Would you like me to post the receipt from 2008? That's not even $3,000 in today's money.

You are dead wrong. Stop bringing up ancient hardware costs before the personal computer boom. It will never prove any point you're trying to make.

The new Mac Pro is simply not in 99% of anyone's target budget anymore. Apple has failed hard. I can't wait to build a PC again.

Check out Linus Tech Tips - there's a PC case on the market that is IDENTICAL to the Mac Pro's. Could be a hoax...

It's a case for making a custom built PC within a model mac pro case, sent to LTT as a courtesy to show off the kickstarter campaign.

CH isn't going to be messing with that.

You are going back 30 years.....

Back then software was $495 per application.

It was a different time.
