Mac Pro Spotted in Studio of DJ Calvin Harris Ahead of Launch

Totally agree. The "Mac Pro" forum will be 50% activity that it is now AT BEST. That's on a very very very very lucky month post release.

There is a reason why high valued paintings at auction are on canvas.
Because old people with money like old things? The VALUE being that one old person has something the other old person doesn’t have (until it goes up for auction again because, by gum they shall have their comeuppance!)

Do it and stop posting here please.
The Dune case doesn’t even allow for 8 PCI slots. So, even WITH a template, the copy can’t match the original.

Masterpieces for art as an example hold or increase in value and there are many investors with fine taste, it is not my thing but that does not mean I do not appreciate it and like to visit the museum. I gather digital art does not hold the same value to paint on canvas as it takes seconds to replicate digital work while a little longer for a reproduction of paint on canvas to ink on paper or a pricey good fake.

Rule of thumb if that if something takes longer to reproduce it commends greater value, bonus if the creator dies (in the art community) as there will be no more original work form that mind. I am sure 3D printers armed with a paintbrush may shorten the time to be applied on canvas however it is still a good quality reproduction/fake.

I suspect we will not be seeing the next digital art masterpiece commend that same $$$ at an auction anytime soon, though I would love to be proven wrong. Though some digital art pieces are beautiful it gets lost in the sea of unique works.

It IS true. I bought a 3,1 for $2,329. Would you like me to post the receipt from 2008? That's not even $3,000 in today's money.

You are dead wrong. Stop bringing up ancient hardware costs before the personal computer boom. It will never prove any point you're trying to make.

The new Mac Pro is simply not in 99% of anyone's target budget anymore. Apple has failed hard. I can't wait to build a PC again.

Feels like it’s by design. The Mac Pro is clearly aimed at users whose needs cannot be met even by a souped-up iMac Pro. In this regard, it makes sense that this would target the 1% of Mac users who do need that much power.

For people who simply want an upgradeable Mac tower desktop, Apple has little interest in serving this group, because for them, the iMac and macbook pros are clearly the solutions for everybody else.

It feels less like Apple has screwed up here, and more that the enthusiasts here still haven’t accepted the reality on the ground.

It may not be in 99% of anyone’s target budget (that’s debatable) but that’s ok because it isn’t targeted at 99% of users. It’s for those who use their Mac to generate money, and who have wants or needs beyond Mac mini, iMac and iMac Pro. Call it a prosumer or pro machine, it doesn’t matter.

People have been complaining about the price of Macs for 35+ years. How much do you think the base Mac Pro should cost $5k? 4k? 3k? Ok, fine.

Let’s say the Mac Pro is overpriced by $3k. Your talking about $50/month over five years. More like $35-40 after the tax deduction is taken into account. That’s it. That’s what people complaining about the Mac Pro are bitching about.

There is no way you’re ever going to convince me that an actual pro that would use a 2019 Mac Pro in a revenue generating capacity would find $50/month to be “too much” and thus priced out, or who would have any trouble at all justifying it in a cost/benefit analysis.

Those who want a Mac Pro just because they want one, and somehow feel entitled to a less expensive Mac Pro, sorry but Apple has gone way beyond previous Mac Pros with the 2019 Mac Pro.

It’s what pros asked for, but yeah it’s pricey if you’re a hobbyist. But it’s not targeted to hobbyists, and for those folks the mini can be a good option. Also, even many pros now use the regular iMac, even though in the 2000s they would have had to buy a Mac Pro.

For $6k, you get a robust, expandable, very capable Xeon/ECC workstation platform that has 8 PCIe slots, 12 RAM sockets and a 1.4 kW power supply in a cool, quiet enclosure. You may want it (or a cut-down version) for less, but Apple is charging $6k for the 2019 Mac Pro in its base config.

But maybe I’m wrong; I’m open to changing my mind that $50/month is too much for the target market to bear. Please include the average monthly billings and the billing rate though, otherwise there’s no hope of determining whether the Mac Pro is affordable or not. Doesn’t have to be your info, it can be someone else’s. Or, feel free to propose your own hypothetical numbers for hourly billing rate and monthly billings.

there are many investors
i.e. people with money that want to resell something later for more money, just like any investor (or collector). That doesn’t say ANYTHING about the quality and/or value of the artwork. If one canvas work sells for 1 million and another sells for 2 million, is the two million one 1 million dollars more artistic? Nope, it’s just seen as a stronger investment. And, come next year, if that particular artist is no longer trendy, the buyer may NEVER make that 2 million dollars back... especially if no one in that insular group of folks that are invited to auctions of that caliber want to pay that much for it. Again, nothing in that speaks to the artistic value of the piece, OR how long it took to reproduce just to the investment (or collector) potential.

Which again, is just about people with money wanting to buy things just to say they own it (collector) OR to hopefully resell it for more (back to the same group of folks) in the future (investor).

Maybe the new Mac Pro has already been released and it's by-invite-only. ;) You haven't received an invite because you're not the target audience! Hrmph! Peon.

one, in harris' video, clearly it was not augmented reality, two..he has a cable wrapped around the circular handle on the top. i wouldn't think that would be included in the augmented version

It is possible to edit an AR object. It's also possible the cable wrapped on top is a separate AR object. I think it's likely this is a hoax. The Mac Pro is coming though. Possibly this week.

I predict the opposite. I think Apple will sell a ton of these. Anyone who can drop $1000+ for a new iPhone can drop $6k for a new Mac.

I love how conspiracy theories develop with the new Mac Pro taking center stage. Amazing publicity.

Exactly.
about 15minutes of work a month to pay for the Mac Pro....... sounds very cheap to me. I am getting convinced by your argument!

I am all for empowering the MacOS and bringing it as a main power system for the professionals/enterprise, but I am still convinced this is the ugliest computer(or maybe product) Apple has ever produced.

Not sure why they couldn't do a better job.

The molar Mac was uglier...

Just as a reminder - Intel just lowered the price of it’s processors by 50%. If the price of the MacPro would reflect the component cost It would be 500$ cheaper now.

Will be interesting to see how long people are willing to pay insane prices and get buggy and crippled operating systems.

On the other hand it is fully understandable. The DJ needs a faster Mac and is willing to pay the price/gets it for free from Apple. Story told.

Check out Linus Tech Tips - there's a PC case on the market that is IDENTICAL to the Mac Pro's. Could be a hoax...

Except it is not "IDENTICAL". And if you checked out Linus Tech Tips and cared to look closely, you'd have noticed the one in the picture is not that PC case. ;-)
