Finally someone else with this really annoying problem. It drives me absolutely nuts!

For those that don't have it, picture the scene: You had all your windows (Safari, mail, etc) sized and positioned to your liking. Lock or sleep the Mac and come back sometime later and very often apps such as Safari or mail are now positioned in the bottom left of the screen and need to be moved and resized again. Other times as the Mac is waking you see them momentarily appearing in the bottom left before jumping to the position that you last had them.

Why these kind of things still happen, along with finder windows, all these years on is beyond me (and Apple it would seem).
I get this first issue occasionally, but always the second thing where they appear briefly in lower left corner then back to normal. Bizarre.

I guess some people are just more sensitive to preserving energy, keeping energy costs down and paying more attention to security than you do. People are different. Who would have thought.

You're saving, what, pennies? LOL. I get the part about security, though. I accomplish that by simply putting my display (not computer) to sleep and setting it to require a password immediately upon waking.

Today, RC was released: alas no change for me. I am stuck with shutting the machine down.

Mine is really strange. Sometimes it will work the first time and others it will take two, three and, so far, five times clicking (the most) on sleep to get it working. Never wakes up once it's asleep though. Is Apple working on a fix?

In my case, I have a longer file report with Apple - updated regularly after release of new betas.

last night, I tried to let the Studio sleep for the night. First, it looked a little better than before, but in the morning it turned out, the Studio had to restart during the night after a kernel panic. After activating the restarted Mac, all was before. Every Siri command on all my iOS stuff wakes the Studio up.

Unfortunately, the new Apple keyboards with Touch ID doesn't have a Power button or an Eject key (that was replaced by the Touch ID button). I miss the ability to sleep the computer from the keyboard.
I don't know if anybody answered this for you (I did not read the whole thread) but you can easily do this on your own.

Go to System Preferences -> Keyboard -> Shortcuts

Under App Shortcuts select the plus button to add a shortcut, type "Sleep" for the menu title and press any key, or key combination for the shortcut.

I use F19 for it and can sleep the computer with one tap of that key.

I have the Mac Studio for 3 days. It does not have any 3rd party software other than Macs Fan Cotrol because it will go back in a few days. I run it 24 hours a day to see if the whine that we discussed in a few threads will go away.

I saw that it had problem sleeping also. After a reboot it was fixed but this time it was waking up the Studio Display with a black screen and only the mouse pointer shown in the middle. I disabled "Wake for network access" from power settings and haven't had that problem again. The computer does not wake too when I choose to have it sleep.

That's a great suggestion.

I've been using the Touch ID key as a power button of sorts. I press it once to go to the login screen, and the monitor goes to sleep within a few seconds. Eventually, at some point the Mac itself goes to sleep, but I've never stuck around to see how long it takes. When I come back, I press the Touch ID button to wake the machine and log in.

If you select to never sleep your Mac when the monitor goes to sleep, that will not work. For example I never let the monitor sleep my Mac. I may have downloads or I may be connected to a server. So I have to manually sleep the Mac when needed.

That makes sense. In my case I set display sleep to "never" and don't have any of the energy saver options selected.

No not sure how. Though today my Display went to sleep on the first time all three times I was using my Studio.

Think most of this sleep problem is happening because the Studio is responding to various network signals from other Apple Devices. As an example if I sit acrosss the room and say Hey Siri in my iPhone the Mac Studio wakes within a few seconds. Suspect IOS may be sending a network signal to the Studio when it should not. When testing Mac OS 12.4 make sure you have also updated all your IOS devices to 15.5 which will probably be released the same day.

Good thinking - that is just what I would summarise too. I run on all devices the RC and hoped, Apple would fix that by then, but until now, they didn’t. We cannonlx hope, a fix coney soon. So: keep notifying Apple as often as possible.

I disabled wake on network activity and can say it seems to have made a difference. I'm now about to upgrade to latest Monterey which hopefully will fix a bunch of other issues !

I had network activity disabled all the time, which did not help at all in my case.

12.4 is final now - same version as RC. But: a beta of 12.5 is on the way and will come out before 13.0 will appear in June (or later). Lets hope, this fixes the sleep problem.

I do think background HomeKit activity as a culprit makes a lot of sense, and it might even be the type of thing that ignores wake for network activity setting.

Mac OS 12.4 has not fixed the wake from sleep problems. I think the specific problem of waking when using Hey Siri on iPhone may be fixed or at least improved as I cannot get it to happen. I notice an additional problem of waking when a text message comes in on iPhone.

Prior to testing I updated all Apple devices to latest versions.

Having wake for network turned off(as I always have) apparently does not prevent the Studio from receiving and responding to network signals.

Hoping for a 12.41 release in a couple of weeks.

To confirm Sleep problem not fixed when using 3DConnexion Bluetooth Mouse and 12.4.

However, if I switch to Apple Trackpad and "Wake for Network Access" unchecked I can get my Mac Studio to sleep (same behaviour as 12.3).

I’ve been having a bit more luck keeping mine asleep recently. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence but a few days ago I gave up on Logitech Options and switched to BetterTouchTool. I also ditched the unifying receiver for a standard bluetooth connection. Previously I had tried switching my mouse off when I slept the Mac but that didn’t seem to help.

That's a really useful tip, thanks. I've always had the cmd-top left hot corner set up to sleep but this is even quicker. I'm hoping that by the time my Studio Ultra turns up (late July/early August) they'll have fixed this otherwise I'll just be shutting it down overnight.
