Reading your post got me to thinking. I've just had a vision!! I've got it!!!!!

The brick could be a module that is removable from the MacBook itself. Instead of putting the laptop into a dock, you dock the brick into the laptop! This way, you can bring all that extra stuff (optical, usb ports, what have you) if you so desire, but you can also eject the brick and have a much lighter laptop!

Whaddya think??? Have I figured it out or what? :D

No you didn't. Basically you didn't provide an explanation as to why having it being PART of the macbook is better than being just a dock. In both cases, you will leave the extra weight at home or carry it with you.

Apple brick - back to the basics.

Possibly with finger holes to make it easy to carry?

Technically IBM has been out of the business computer industry for quite awhile. That was sold off to Lenovo. Because of this, you won't be seeing Lenovo laptops being bought by the Government, because of its overwhelming Chinese control/influence.

That is just the consumer line. The Blades, and all big blue steel are still make in the good old USA. They do outsource some of the components, but a 100% USA made system is still an option, and customizable.

Also, that is what made Dell the leader in DOD laptops. But, this is a tangent, "Tell me about the freaking golf shoes!!, I mean brick."

i dont know what to make of this. apple has been letting me down the past few years... make it right apple, make it right.

Why are people so excited over something as simplistic as this? :D

The brick-as-module would not increase bulk. It docks inside of the laptop, much like optical drives used to do in some cases. The MacBook would still function fully on the lap as always with the brick module inserted. No need for anything external.

And the brick itself could be made of smaller bricks. Maybe one is an optical drive, one is USB, another is FW, another is a card reader...whatever you can think of. Lots of little bricks that all lock together and neatly dock inside the laptop. You therefore can essentially choose your own configuration depending on which modules you need on a given day...or leave them all out and go ultralight.

What if they just have an event where they say "Prices falling like a ton of bricks."? This would fall in line with the aggressive pricing mentioned before.

Only kidding. Who knows what the heck it will end up being. Hopefully Oct. 14 is the date.

^ nice! but that would be terrible to use with your finger. the icons and buttons are jsut too small. you could use zoom but what we really need is RI.

Well, you see... this one's twice the size of an iPhone.

Yeah... that's it.

but whats heavier? a ton or bricks or a ton of MacBooks? *tries to think of how this adds to the conversation*

Yeah... that's it.

well you didnt add a scale… geez!

Even better! Modular approaches really excite me. And Apple could make the bricks nice looking and make them fit together effectively, in the Apple style.

Here are some more highly-likely things brick could refer to.
Note that all of these are as likely to be true as the other ideas in this thread.

A new enclosure material for MacBooks: baked clay!

Built Rugged with Integrated Collapsing Kickstand.

A symbol for rioters who throw bricks through windows: indicating people will riot over the new designs and prices.

A brick-shaped carrying case for 5 iPhones.

Barrier Resistant Interpolated Common Karaoke.

A new power brick for MacBooks with an iPod touch in it.

A brick like in basketball... missing the hoop. This means the new MacBook will be intentionally lopsided.

Baltic Region Interceptor Carrier for Kabul.

Clearly "brick" is an allegory for the fall of man, meaning the next MacBook will be devilishly fast.

Maybe Apple share holders, cut a deal with the Federal Reserve and have an abundance of bricks, bought for pennies on the dollar, after the sub loan morgage crisis fiasco and are trying to pass them off as Mac Towers!

Not sure if its been thought of but:
What can bricks build? Houses! Introducing the new iHome/House.

what? how would you type? the keyboard would take half the screen

i really hope this is a codename like mac os xi: "brick"

It could simply mean Apple is trying to break into the masonry market.

But seriously. I think it is likely to be introduction of mac laptops that only give the option of solid state drives in alluminum cases. You can almost see the slogan for it: "Silent Beauty"

Could it be a cheep notebook

by cheep I mean at least $500 or more. You'd get basic specs but just enough to run all your apps. aimed at the same people that the mini was aimed for...

A Windows killer is...

... SNOW LEOPARD shipping with the new computers or a low priced upgrade, like 49.99. :apple:
