Oh for the love of all things holy!

This is how it's always goes...

Pre-update.

Whine whine whine...Apple this, Apple that. I just wish they would update x because I NEED the new y I'm not going to buy one until this happens.

Post-update

OH MY GOD!!! I can't believe it! How can they! They are so evil! They didn't include a dual HD/Blu-ray drive with 40Gb RAM and 16 TB hard disk.
I'm not going to by one now!

Look if you need a new lappy then go and buy one. (Just to be safe you might want to wait for Tuesday to come and go.) Eitherway once you buy any PC equipment it automatically goes out of date. So suck it up and enjoy the masterful confluence of design and power that the MBP provides!

Why do you say that? Does BTO usually take a long time after initial launches?

I believe, based on the emoticon among other things, that he was exaggerating a bit. If you think it through, though, it would make sense that BTO machines would take a week or two at the time of the announcement. Chances are that Apple will have a fairly good inventory of the stock machines ready, but how many of us will stick to the stock machines? I'm sure quite a few will, with the return issues, etc., but I'm sure many of us will want to tweak them, which means Apple has a huge influx of BTO orders.

Gasp!

Unbelieveable! Check this out!

As for the MacBook Air being too close to a new MBP update, yeah of course. There has to be space between major updates.

- But MBA is really aimed at business users and road warriors.
- The MBP has a much wider public appeal - plus professionals such as myself that need it for media/creative work.
- Then the MacBook will be the big one for public consumption.

That is why Apple need to get a move on and REFRESH the MBP - because it is getting MAJORLY out of date compared to everything else! The design is basically 4 years old now, and desperately needs updating. I think they would be silly to wait 8 months to refresh the line properly - if they just do a processor update, I won't buy one. No point. Rather get a 2nd hand!

I could be very wrong, but I highly doubt they will do a major overhaul to the MBP. If they were to unveil a new major design change, it would be at a major conference where steve could stand on stage for 2 hours pointing out every little feature of the new design but never touching on the actual hardware.

Or he whould whip out something else new like a new ipod nano, devote 2 hours to that, and then say "oh, also this" and show the new MBP design for 30 seconds.

Since they sent their on-stage time on the Air, i don't think we'll be seing a design change on the MBP besides maybe multitouch.

Seriously you guys have talked yourself into believing everything. As far as we know the rumored event on the 26th is nothing more than that...a RUMOR. There has been no official announcement. Sure there might be evidence but no confirmation.

You'll all be super pissed when and if it doesn't happen. Cursing Apple for letting you down. When in-fact you created the hype. Sit back and relax when the new MBP comes it comes.

I've been waiting since MacWorld last year by choice. As Conan says "Settle Down My Babies" =]

I've been a Windows man for years but for various reasons I've decided to switch to Mac :D.

I came across this forum so I could ascertain what I was about to spend my hard earned cash on. That was two months ago and the "hype" as you call it, means Apple have not yet received my money nor the money of many members on this board or on every other Macrumor board there is out there...

With all this "hype", and if you look at Apple's "sales chart", MBP sales are way down there, coincidence??

Apple is a business and cash is King. As long as it's in our pockets and not in :apple:'s, they'll not wait too long to release an forecasted update.

well, it has to be out before the end of the month (the SDK), so either an event is going on, or there will be a quiet release, either way, it is comming, that is not negotiable.

I bought mine like 3 or 4 months ago, couldn't be happier, a great machine, a great OS, everything about this MBP is awesome. So if/when the updates come, I'll evaluate the situation and if needed I'll sell mine and go for a new one.

Nice catch. I don't believe they would be allowed to discount unless "approved" by Apple. That's the best sign yet.

Looking at that link, it's not discounted. Amazon routinely runs a MIR similar to that, and in no way indicates a product update.

Apple would look at that as a discount and wouldn't allow it.

Erra, I believe Amazon has discounts on MBPs from time to time, if not most of the time, so I wouldn't, erra, read much into this.

How is that for a Ted Kennedy impression, eh ;)

Best Buy seems to have MBPs avaliable online, but not in most stores. (http://www.appleinsider.com/article...ng_dry_in_the_channel_ahead_of_refreshes.html) this is the post on Apple Insider, but the Besy Buy site that it linkes to it says:

Shipping: Usually leaves our warehouse in 1 business day Estimate arrival time.
Store Pickup: Available at most stores Select preferred store availability

I hope that this is just in prep for shipping the new MBPs not a sign that the out of stock was temperary!

You forgot "I hear they're going to come out with a z. I really, really want one," where z is some product that exists only in the poster's fevered imagination. In this thread, z = 12 or 13 inch MBP; in the Mac Pro threads, z = Mac minitower.

Some people like wishing really hard, I guess.

Apple Care Plan

I'm going to be buying a new mac book pro when the updates arrive, and I have my BTO MBP ready, but I'm not sure about the apple care plan. Most of my buddies say don't waste the money on any type of warrenty but I'm not sure. Any ideas from current :apple: owners?

There are many who don't wish to pay the extra money for Applecare. I for one do. It has been the best money I've ever spent on my Macs, especially a notebook. A single repair alone can be as much as $600 without a warranty.

If you never have to use it, that's great, but it serves well for some peace of mind, and don't forget, this also gives you 3 FULL years of phone support with Apple, not just hardware but software as well. This also assumes you keep you computers for more than a year.

IMHO money well spent.
