I'm going to be buying a new mac book pro when the updates arrive, and I have my BTO MBP ready, but I'm not sure about the apple care plan. Most of my buddies say don't waste the money on any type of warrenty but I'm not sure. Any ideas from current :apple: owners?

Like others have noted, it depends on how long you plan on keeping your computer. My wife's TWO year old MBP has been making some rather odd sounds the past few weeks. I took into the Apple store, and my guess was on track, the fan on the left side is giving out. So they have ordered not only the left fan, but the right one as well... So they'll be replacing both fans at no cost to me. I have no idea what it would have cost without the Apple Care, but I'm glad I don't have to worry about it.
Like any other extended warranty, sometimes you buy it and never have cause to use it and sometimes you do.

Sorry, no real answer to your question unless you're not keeping it for more than a year, then for sure skip it.

they WILL update to Penryn. It still takes 3 months to release after Motevina is announced. No one will wait till September if they need one now. And they slashed prices cause something is coming.

FWIW (and like some other posters have mentioned), I was at my local Apple Store this past Saturday and asked if they had any of the $2,500-configured 15" MBP and the guy said they were sold out. This combined with other reports of several other retailers being sold out makes me think the time is near.

I'm really hoping it's tomorrow or next Tuesday...fingers crossed!

I personally think next week or when the rumored event is. Tomorrow would be too soon cause prices pretty much JUST got slashed. But its still possible tomorrow. The time is definitely near.

Come to think of it, it might actually be tomorrow because with Motevina being announced and releases so early in June, they will need to get Penryn updated SOON.

Buy it if you intend to own the computer after 11 months. Even Mac laptops have been known to suffer from the punishment of being lifted around and knocked... they go through a lot more than desktop computers.

For the last 19 years I've bought Apple laptops and every one has had AppleCare. I don't regret any of the Applecare purchases, although I've never needed any of them (I've owned them all for the 3 year span, and then sold them).

Just a heads up. If you purchase a Cinema Display at the same time as your MacBook Pro, it will be covered under the same AppleCare.

Another heads up. The Cinema Displays are due for a refresh.

Timing

Hi there!
Which time usually do updates come? When will the shop be down? Is there a pattern regarding the last releases?

Regards and thx a lot! ;-)

i kind of like to be a bit negative so that if something happens i will then be happier, and if it doesn't happen i ll be ok...

there is always next tuesday.............

If thats the case then I'm afraid it doesn't look good.
The store is still up at 10.07pm Australian EST therefore I'd say nothing is coming this week.

This is my first post, though i have been (slightly obssesively) following the forums since september. First waited for Leopard to come out. Then heard of Jan 15 rumours and decided to wait. Been waiting ever since...

COME ON APPLE.

love apple. hate jobs.

before I get my hopes up too high.. does anyone have any thoughts on what apple might be changing in the store (other than the new MBPs which are obviously being added) ?

Yep!! Store = Offline

Let us see - OK everyone calm down, go and watch a film for a couple of hours... DON'T put yourself through the 15 second Refresh this time OK????

It could be anything so CALM down - and what with Presidents Day, it might even be routine maintenance....
