New MBP comming this month

I spoke to a sales rep at an official Apple reseller store, and he told me that they are expecting the new MBP this month. He could not tell me when exactly, but he was sure they would arrive within a month...
He also told me their stock of the 15" MBP had run out, and they were waiting for the new updated MBP to arrive. Because they don't want to fill up their stock with old 15" MBP.

Lets hope... ;)

Are any of the Apple reps really on board with anouncements or product releases? I didn't think that they know anything other then what we do? Please prove me wrong.:D

You forgot "I hear they're going to come out with a z. I really, really want one," where z is some product that exists only in the poster's fevered imagination. In this thread, z = 12 or 13 inch MBP; in the Mac Pro threads, z = Mac minitower.

Some people like wishing really hard, I guess.

Hehe, reminded me of this. :D

i spoke to an apple rep on the online chat today to get a few questions that i had about my purchase answered, and throughout it, i hinted at the new release very slightly, and eventually just said that i was waiting for the new release, and he obviously had no idea what i was talking about, he said that they know nothing about the future products.

This could be different from the actual store:apple:, because they have more insight on shipping and the availability of the products.

I spoke to an apple representative in California today on my iPhone and he told me that they aren't expecting the next shipment of MBPs to be released until August because of the recent influx of processors needed for the iToaster Penryn edition.

But hey look at me anyone can make up a story about talking to someone from apple and claiming that whatever they say is fact.

I'm going to be buying a new mac book pro when the updates arrive, and I have my BTO MBP ready, but I'm not sure about the apple care plan. Most of my buddies say don't waste the money on any type of warrenty but I'm not sure. Any ideas from current :apple: owners?

I personally think that it is a waste of money.

During the first year all the quality problems you could encounter will surface so your warranty may cover them.

After 1 year your mac will be the old mac and you may want to replace it anywayl
So sell it before the warranty ends and if the next owner wants the apple care he/she can buy it, therefore your used mac may have a better value for the next owner.

Quite true. But then, think about how short nearly every thread in these forums would be if they only dealt in cold, hard, verifiable facts. ;)

well, my MBP status just changed to "prepared for shipment" it still says ships by feb 20-22, but we'll see what happens.

it's overnight delivery, so from china that means more like 2 or 3 days later...

You make a good point. Without them I wouldn't have an excuse to keep posting until that glorious day I can use an avatar.

Buy it, Many a member here had an issue and in some cases those that had the extended warranty were serviced for defects that were discovered after the warranty was up.

Just about any repair will pay for the Apple Care.
Buy it.

They won't update in June.

They will still update the MBP with Penryn soon.

So what is the verdict? New MBP in Feb or not!!!???

(Maybe everyone should just say yes to keep spirits up);)

i certainly hope your right, but again i dont see the point in updating the machines when montevina is around the corner, unless they deem that wimax and faster bus are /pointless/ then maybe.

I just dont see the point in purchasing the penryn chips 4 months away from the montevina chips, i really hope they get the motevina ones earlier though.

And even if they do decide to release a penyn, i find it will be a stupid business decision since they would be stuck out of the montevina bandwagon until the next revision.

I dont know apples views on being in the short bus when it comes to the latest tech but im itching to sell my MBP and get some offf tha hook speed

How viable is WiMax actually looking for 2008 in terms of US service providers? Apple may not be in a huge rush to integrate WiMax in its laptops in Q2 2008.

I'm sure it not going to be four months away. Intel is releasing the chipset in June. That does NOT mean(I'm 99.9% sure) that Apple will release the Montevina MBP in June. All anyone knows is that iut could be in August. Apple has to incorporate the monetevina before they release it to the public. And at the rate they are going now, seen by the wait, they wiull most likely update it in August.

I would say it's a little much if you buy applecare from apple, but if you get it from eBay or somewhere else for like 30% or 40% off it's totally worth it...i have it on my iMac and have already bought it for my macbook pro that I'm going to buy as soon as apple updates them...an added benefit is that if you resell your machine you'll be able to get more for it if it has applecare.

(full disclosure: I occasionally sell applecare on ebay and have sold it hear on MR as well)

I think it is worth it especially if you are not a do-it-yourselfer. You don't have to get the extended coverage the day you buy your computer though, you can wait almost a year and then add it on. Just make sure you buy it before your 1yr warranty runs out. Plenty of time to decide...

there is no advantage to waiting though, right? (other then having time to decide)
