anybody know what the ghz stats are for penryn processors?
"The world's largest chipmaker is expected to introduce five new dual core mobile chips, including four Core 2 Duo models ranging from 2.1GHz to 2.6GHz, and one Core 2 Extreme at 2.8GHz.

More specifically, entry level 2.1GHz and 2.4GHz Core 2 Duo models will include 3MB of Level 2 cache and wholesale in lots of 1,000 for $209 and $241, respectively. Higher performance versions at 2.5GHz and 2.6GHz will each pack 6MB of Level 2 cache and sell for $316 and $530.

Each of the aforementioned Core 2 Duo models will sport a thermal design power (TDP) of 35 watts, while a 2.8GHz Core 2 Extreme ($851), also with 6MB of Level 2 cache, will feature a TDP of 44 watts."

How are you guys selling your old macs?

I'm considering getting the new macbook pro and selling my mac pro that has become unnecessary as of late. I see a lot of the people in these forums have been selling their old computers. Do you use ebay to sell them? Can I get your guys opinion on how much I should ask for for my computer please?

It's a Mac Pro Quad 2.6, 250gig, 500gig, 5gigs of apple ram, Nvidia 256 ram, around 20 months of apple care remaining and an airport card.

Thanks for the help and I hope the new macbookpro's are everything and more... and that they come out soon!

are u in america? just so people can quote the right currency.

I sell on eBay all the time.

I also sell computers, no problems. make sure you have immediate payment required and that you ship only to confirmed addresses. Make sure you get tracking, and try and get them to buy insurance, so you don't have to worry if it arrives broke.

If you have low feedback, you will have to sell at a lower price than someone who has higher feedback.

I.E. i'm not going to buy a 2k+ computer from a guy with just 20-40 feedbacks.
unless it is for a really really good price.

At my local best buy they had a ton of 15" MBPs (more than they had last week), and no 17" MBPs (they have been out of stock on the 17" model for 2 weeks now). Take that for what its worth.

You CAN return customized computers if they are unopened within 14 days. You can also return them if they are dead on arrival.

Thanks! That's reassuring.

First time I've actually begun to think we might be about to get an update to be honest.

I went to buy a 17" to replace my 15" MBP on Friday and the Apple store were clean out of all but the base 15". I then called my next nearest Apple store and was equally told they only had the 15" model in stock.

I thought it was a bit strange of the store to not have any 17" in stock at all. It's not as if it was a new model I was after but one that had been out for several months. It's hardly likely that there has been a run on 17" MBP's over the last week.

I was told by the assistant to come back about the middle of next week.

2.5 will be the base, with 6mb cache.

I want to buy the base model and it will really piss me off if, after all this, Apple puts the 2.4 GHz 3MB Penryn in it. Somehow I get a feeling that's exactly what will happen: 2.5 GHz in the loaded 15", 2.4 GHz in the base 15" (with a $200 upgrade to 2.6 GHz).

if i was apple, i would put the 2.4 in the base model :/ hard call, but i would.

Yeah, that's what they'll do. Mark my word :mad: This gives them room to charge extra for processor BTOs on all three MBPs, along these lines

Base 15": T8300-->T9300 for $150-200
High 15" & 17": T9300-->T9500 for $400-500

the 2.4 will be high end macbook (it is a different kind of processor than the 2.5 proc)

currently, the 2.2 is in the macbook, and the base macbook pro. i still think the 2.4 will be in the mbp. and there is no reason to believe that apple will treat them as different just bcause of the cache. a 2.4 would still make a nice base model mac imho.

yeah, i hope they go with the 2.5 for the mbp. i'm tired of the high end mb and the base mbp having roughly the same specs except gpu. that doesn't make the pro feel so 'pro' in my opinion. i almost opted for a mb rather than a mbp at first because the there wasn't that much of a difference except screen size (which was actually the factor that made the difference for me in purchasing)

I ordered a custom built 17" MBP on the 6th through my University, checked with them on Friday and they brought out the expected ship date for it to be the 20th. They also said that they've had a lot of orders piling up since the end of January.

if the stock has been low since end of jan, then maybe they are waiting for the 15inch mbp to deplete a bit more too???

My thought is that they wanted to make sure 10.5.2 was stable enough after its release before updating the MBPs.

I was just looking over the Penryn line as well as the processors currently in Apples laptops and one thing that strikes me is that all of them have a C2D with 4mb of L2. The T9500 and T9300 are at the exact same price point as the T7700 and the T7500 when they were released last summer; $530 and $316. The price dropped on these processors in September to $316 and $241, respectively. The T8300 with its 3mb of L2 comes in at the exact same price point (241) as the current T7500 in the MPBs. This concerns me as I was eyeing the lower end MPB, which I hope will be equipped with the T9300. Also, I looked at Intel’s roadmap and in 2009, the Nehalem chips will be shifting from L2 to a larger L3 cache (24mb in high end servers), and I would not be surprised to see the mobile chips follow suit after the 8mb L3 versions (probably 2010). Given that the new $1999 MPB has a T8300 (which I hope it does not), I think I would have to upgrade to the $2499 model with the T9300 for the sake of my laptop being viable in 3 years with new instruction sets geared towards larger caches.

p.s. This will be my first MAC!
