Mid-2011 13" MBA. High Sierra was never stable for me. Locked up spontaneously without any way to recover. That was from both an in-place upgrade and a barebones vanilla install. It wouldn't even stay stable enough for me to do a TM restore, so I'm stuck on Sierra.

BL.
Interesting. If you haven't tried it already, I wonder if trying the last release version would be better. Cuz I remember when it first came out the release version was really buggy. It took a good few months for everything to stabilize.

is there a way to go straight to 10.13.6 at the time of vanilla install? If so I can give it another shot; otherwise it was so buggy that it would crash on me prior to or during the last supplemental update. That’s why I went back to 10.12.6, as that’s been solid ever since.. in fact, all of Sierra and going back to the original install of Lion has been solid for me.

Interesting to note: even High Sierra had 9 beta builds plus 2 RCs, with the last RC being the Gold Master that was the seed to the RTM. That’s the trend that is making me think that the same is going to happen with Monterrey, which is why we’re waiting on the OS to stabilize before any event is scheduled.

If you have an earlier installer for 10.13 High Sierra, you can download the 10.13.6 combo updater and install that immediately without having to go through all the incremental updaters.

It also includes the interim security updates as well.

That's the problem. I get the crashes on the vanilla install of 10.13 to where I can't even get to jump to 10.13.6 with the combo updater. The RTM version of 10.13 is that bad on my MBA.

If you try downloading the High Sierra installer now from the App Store, you might get a different version.

Apple periodically updates the OS installer to reflect later updates, or at least they did with some OS X installers.

EDIT:

Confirmed. I have two copies of the High Sierra installer archived from years ago:

10.13.0.64 (Sept. 20, 2017)
10.13.6.02 (July 13, 2018)

I just checked by re-downloading the installer file just now, and the current one is that 2018 summer 10.13.6.02 one.

My recollection was that release 4 was good then they broke a couple of things with security changes in either 5 or 6.

Any rumors on pricing? these bad boys going to cost a arm and a leg? 🤔 Hopefully apple doesn't go crazy and increase the price on the 16” model by $1,000. 🤦‍♂️😳😂

The reasons for raising prices would be supply-chain costs. Their capabilities to lower costs are in making their own CPUs and GPUs.

BTW, I do think that other laptop makers may move to some of the integration approaches that Apple has taken though it Intel and AMD would have to do the integration.

Pricing is one of the last things we're likely to find out about as there's no reason for that to be anywhere other than in the hands of a small number of people inside Apple.

I expect pricing will remain largely the same as "equivalent" models in the current lineup. Remember all the people panicking about how much the 16" MBP was going to cost over the 15" one?

One factor in figuring out pricing is that Apple doesn't like to change the prices on their systems. If they sell this model for a year to eighteen months, then they are going to have to project out prices for supply-chain issues and that's difficult to do right now. A lot of attention on energy right now.

You can't jump the gun.

It's not like you can go on Apple.com and order a rumor.
I don’t think anyone jumped the gun. There are a lot of facts posted on post #1. Our announcement or the release date of MacBook Pro 2021 💻 is not too far away. I’m really hoping to see announcements to go out upcoming Tuesday.

No, you don't need to watch the video. I just wanted to point out the title. Can you imagine the number of clicks this guy gets for posting a new video every day?

Lol, I doubt the MacBook is getting a 120Hz pro motion display this year. These YouTubers have no clue or idea. They are just focusing on creating content. They don’t care if it’s holds the truth or lies.

Hope you're right, since we have the entry model M1 MacBook Pro starting at $1,999 AUD, I can see Tim Cook raising the prices heavily on these redesigned MacBook pros, hopefully they follow the same pricing as the mini led iPad Pro, that didn't get a massive price bump.

A new chip and mini led isn't worth a extra $1000, throw in 120hz & Face ID, raise the price by $200, then you might have my attention. 🧐💻💰🏃‍♂️

Tim Cook I know you are reading my comments 😂 I demand a answer on why you aren't giving me 120hz this year.

Don't say because of efficiency, if my tiny battery in my M1 MacBook Pro, can handle it, but you chose to leave it out 🙄 the new machines will handle 120hz with ease.

battery life with this tiny battery has been insane, approaching 4 hours usage, only hit 82%

Who said no 120 Hz? Just because it hasn’t been rumored?

Not looking good, normally it would've been mentioned by now, apple will most likely hold it back for a future release, so they can make even more money.

Redesign will get everyone spending money this year.

Then everyone will upgrade again next year, when apple introduces 120hz.

Then again the following year, when they introduce Face ID. 🤦‍♂️

It's typical apple marketing.
